Very interesting video! When I started darts at the beginning of the year I brought the dart right below my left eye (Im also a right handed opposite eye dominant player) which caused my elbow to flare out and it blocked my vision towards the board. Now I bring it to the middle of my face and I can reduce the angle in my forearm and see the target clearly. I think having the dart to the right hand side of your dominant eye (if you are right handed) is smart. And even right eye dominant players like Suljovic or Cullen do the same thing pretty much when they bring their hand right besides their head.

Game changer for me, for the life of me, I could not figure out why my darts kept falling into the 5 consistently, now I have changed my angle of my head, and whilst not perfect, it's improved my game stats significantly. Thanks very much!

This helped me so much honestly your the only person that talks about this I have seen so many videos where they talk about this topic and normally they say just say bring it across or they say they don't even want to touch on that topic so thank you

I'm also opposite eye dominant but what I do is I choose an open stance with my torso and forward foot facing 45 degrees, and I center the 20 segment between my nose and I aim directly in line with the center of my face, not to the side.

Thank you for discussing eye dominance. I started playing 4 years ago and it is so frustrating. I even contacted a coach who told me there was no such thing as eye dominance. That coaching didn't last long. I'm going to give your technique a try. I will try to contact you for some coaching.

First of all, I would like to thank you for the video, you are the first to properly address the topic on KZbin. As a beginner I got a lot of value from your videos. I also throw right-handed and my dominant eye is left. Throwing the way you showed feels wrong to me. I have copied the stance (which I am fine with) but still pull the dart past my head on the right side. I feel like my forearm is too long to throw like you. Is aiming so important when throwing that I should adjust my throw like you? I tried to throw like you and Glen Durrant but I had no control over the dart. Greetings from Germany

The key with aiming is to always keep the darts under your line of sight, you want to be looking down the barrel or through the flight. :) If you find this hard try and lower your elbow a bit. :)

I've just discovered that I'm left eye dominant but right handed. I always thought I was right eye dominant and the sight in my right eye is crap! No wonder I keep missing treble 20s all the time. I will copy Phil Taylor now lol. This is a great video thanks for uploading.

You make such helpful videos especially for beginners. It's incredible how much you already helped me! That being said, could you make a video on AIMING? I think there is a lot to talk about and questions that newer players (including myself) have. Do you aim down the flight/shaft? If so, at what point do you aim (position A or position B)? How do you keep this consistent? Do you actually aim at all or just play "by feel"? What seems to be "the best way"? How do most pro's do this?
@Straightdarts3 жыл бұрын
Your should always aim through the flight or down the shaft. :) Always keep the dart under your line of slight and yes feel is important but you still need to aim at all targets at all times. :)
@IvarsKublins3 жыл бұрын
@@Straightdarts really through a flight or shaft? I mostly can see only point of the dart... If it will be shaft or flight, then it will totally in front of the target... Or I misundrrstood you? I always thought that I need to aim fully on the dartboard target with both eyes like shooting with shotgun, and I should be totally clear sight on target... Could you draw or make a picture how it ideally should look like from first person view?

Now this is a real saver for me. Just picked up the sport so I'm still craptastic by any means. The issue I'm facing (or was rather) is being an archer first and foremost, my dominant hand is pretty calloused from bowstrings so i don't really feel the grip of most darts. Throwing left handed with right eye dominance was a bit wonky at first but this helped a bunch. Throwing left handed feels more natural in a sense, feels a bit like the follow through of a shot. This has a lot of similarities to archery and I'm trying to "mould" your way of throwing into something like the ksl shot cyle. Might aswell call it the sttp throw cyle really. 😂

Ive just realised Im left eye dominant but right handed. That might explain why I can never seem to improve beyond a certain point.... Altho it might just be that Im shit. However, for now, Im blaming it on not knowing I was left eye dominant ! Tks for the video. Im gonna practice this.
@Ronnie_D25Ай бұрын
Me as well… right handed… shoot rifles with right eye, and bow hunt … but with darts … switched to left eye and consistently improved my average by about 20 points… was throwing about a 30 average, now 50-55 consistently for about a month now… I practice ever day after work in the garage for about 1.5 hours…

Great video. So being left eye dominant I love the look across your nose part. That really makes sense, but what exactly are u looking at? Are u looking down the barrel of the dart so to speak? Looking thru the flight down the shaft? Sorry for the stupid question, I’m just trying to improve. Normally I’d just randomly aim with my eyes alone and just try to hold the dart as straight as I can
@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
With my dominant eye, I'm looking over the dart, straight to the target. I'm not bringing the dart to that eye. Try to image to lines, one going straight from your opposite eye to the target. The other is going from the dart to the target. You'll find both lines meet, and you're able to use both eyes to aim. Keep everything with the throw the same but lock the opposite eye to the target. :)

I’m opposite eye dominant but (unless I close my non-dominant eye) I see two hands when the dart is close to my face. This make it almost impossible to “aim”. Or am I over thinking this and “aiming” is less about actually looking at the dart itself but more about the entire throw? Thanks for any help.
@Straightdarts3 жыл бұрын
Correct, the throw is far more important that the amount of aiming.

Great video! Do you have any opinions on if the dart or flight should be right under the triple or even a couple of inches below if its more comfortable? I've been told not to "aim" the dart but I assume the starting point should be consisent with each target
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
Everything's good player aims the darts, but not all players sight the dart. That's two very different things. Always see the line you want the dart to fly down. As long as the dart is under the line of sight, that's normal. Make sure you can see the target and the line you want to dart to fly down, just over the dart.

Very good video. I have one question about it.when you like to hit double 10, do you shift with your body till you are in the line of sights or you twist only your pelvis?
@Straightdarts Жыл бұрын
I only twist but some players that are to the fair side off the oche (especially those with back and knee problems) struggle with this and the movement becomes necessary on some doubles. :)
@benbeacom63092 жыл бұрын
You are left handed right eye dominant yes? Same as myself, what side of the oche do you stand? More to the right so your left arm is down center? I did see an older video saying your clips are flicked opposite way round
@Straightdarts2 жыл бұрын
My left arm is always straight down the center of the 20's, I always stay in the middle of the oche. I currently play left handed due to dartitis and injerry and I am right eye dominant. :) Thank you!
