I'm in Jersey and there are signs at our beaches with little diagrams that say "Just Flip 'Em!" Horseshoes crabs are so cool, when the beach is coated with them during mating season it's just incredible!

They are definitely not in the same family. Horseshoe crabs are in the Limulidae family, whereas spiders are an entire order called Araneae. Horseshoe crabs are part of the Xiphosura order. Spiders and Horseshoe crabs are in the same subphylum, Chelicerata. Phylums and subphylums are pretty big groups though.

Poor crab. All that B/S and waffle. Could have had it turned over and at the edge of the water in seconds, instead of an ego-driven video letting the poor crab suffer longer..

Poor crab had been lying on the beach since the day before! That's HOURS of suffering! "Do ya need any help, fella?" The crab shoulda bit him!

Always help horseshoe crabs! They are actually in danger of going extinct, and (surprisingly) their blood is a very important medical resource! If you got a COVID-19 vaccine, or have used sterile medical equipment, you owe a thanks to a horsecrab.

Maybe this is the reason they are going extinct 🤷🤷
@fireanice4
@fireanice4 2 жыл бұрын
@@BELIEVER78989 they are going extinct for a few reasons. 1. Before we knew how important their blood was, we (Americans) overfished them like crazy. Not to eat them, but to use them as bait. 2. We try to release them after bleeding them, so they can still reproduce, but we do a terrible job and only 1/3 of them survive the bleeding process. 3. People in Asia (where most of the horseshoe crabs lives) don’t have any legal protections for them. So they never bother to release them after the bleeding process, and they will eat them (but it’s pretty wasteful because only some parts are used/edible). These are ancient creatures, so if they were going to go extinct because they couldn’t flip over then they would’ve been extinct a long time ago.

So afraid of a crab you use your FOOT and then can't save him the time by bringing him to the ocean's edge? A 3:08 video that could have been done in 15 seconds.

Cost him a bunch of energy to get back to the waves after probably being without food for a while. They're pretty harmless and could've been dropped much closer to the water, but still, great to see a guy not getting stuck there forever.

Much respect for helping that little guy but the guy filming was a bit obnoxious and annoying. Like just flip the thing over or move it to the water asap. Just a few seconds could literally mean life or death and this dude is just trying to be funny while the crab continues to struggle. I got some anxiety watching this video.
