STRANDED in Kuala Lumpur by our Cruise Excursion : A Travel Nightmare

P&O did this to us on an official excursion. Cancelled without letting us know. It was an afternoon excursion so we had come back to the ship to join it and by the time we found out (after asking 6 different staff, everyone told us to keep waiting) we were told they had announced it on the ship after most people disembarked. They were very rude about it which was an extra kicker

One of my best excursions was purchasing a mini van privately that took us around San Juan and beyond. The driver was Puerto Rican and a veteran. He was exceptional. Great videos guys.

Hey Ben and David, Aussie here who went on a 7 week holiday in Europe back in 2015 Summer, your morning here reminded me of my last day in Rome where we arrived to catch our train to get us to Sicily 45 minutes late. (Yes the train had left...). After some freaking out and what are we going to do now discussions with the people we were traveling with... Discovered that we could catch the next train at about 11am (3 hours after we were meant to travel), and ended up only costing us 20 Euro each....

David and Ben, I just love you guys. Your tips are excellent, love all the food descriptions, and your amazing adventures! When we were on a cruise that brought us to Sorrento for the day, leaving the port at 8:30pm. We decided to take a ferry over to Capri. When we arrived all the tour companies had trips that all the cruisers were buying into, and were being transported on older buses. We saw taxi drivers with, get this, convertible cars!!! We paid $100US to Mossimo, who was our private driver for the day. He took us where the buses were not allowed, brought us to his friends amazing little restaurant overlooking Capri with stunning views of the Mediterranean, and homemade food that was to die for. It was a trip of a lifetime and Mossimo made the memories even better.

I did something similar in Bali in 2013. We had a taxi driver on our first night and he ended up being our personal driver for the entire trip. Even when we left the island to go to other islands, he would take us to the airport and then pick us up when we came back. (We were in Indonesia 3 weeks.) We ate dinner at his home and he took us to things that normal tourists would never know about. It was fantastic. I am still friends on FB with him to this day.

We visited KL on our way to Borneo. Couldn't get up the Petronas tower, taxi driver told us we needed to be there by 07:30 to get a ticket. Went up the KL tower instead, was amazing.

I always get the tours off the ship. It's a form of insurance especially if a long day ends up running late, the ship has to wait for the tour returnees. You also find out if a tour is cancelled and funds returned before time is wasted.

I actually did the Petronas twin tours tour in 2017. If you are not on a tour you can book yourself, but you need to do it in advance. I thought it was just to the sky bridge linking the towers, but no! You also get to go to an observation deck on something like the 86th floor. You have a guide who tells you all about the building & its construction. It cost at the time about £16 but it really is totally worth it. You have about an hour. There is also a food court on the top floor of KLCC for some cheapish asian food!

When I was working 3/4 day Asia cruises, despite getting off every time we were in KL, we never actually got there... instead, outside the cruise terminal, just to the left (when facing the shipe) there is an AWESOME little restaurant that crew tend to go to. For about US$3/person we were fed to the point of explosion with some of the best Malaysian 'home styled' food. That was over 10 years ago though, so I wonder if it is still there?

That is the only problem with booking 3rd party tours, yes they are significantly cheaper but they can totally f you over and leave you completely screwed. I learned that lesson many years ago when I was once so late getting back from a 3rd party tour that the ship had left without me and I had to get from Ocho Rios, Jamaica to George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands by myself in order to catch the ship up and was massively out of pocket. However, when I was on Harmony on its maiden voyage and while docked in Rotterdam went on an official tour to Gouda we were over 2 hours late getting back to the ship because the traffic was so bad as virtually all of Rotterdam had turned out to see the ship (world’s largest at the time) and the ship was waiting for us, had we not have had been on an official RCI tour it wouldn’t have waited. So yes there are pro’s and con’s to booking 3rd party tours, to be honest I don’t think I’ll ever take the risk again.

Couldnt get over the view from our room! We did this cruise in Dec. loved it! If u can afford the suites class it is worth it! We went sky class but next time will go with the star class. Everything is included in the star class and u have priority everything no lines or even problems getting reservations anywhere!! Brilliant! The staff on Quantum was amazing as well, especially for me coz I am a bit of a baby (ok huge baby) they treated me great and never had an empty glass the entire trip!! They knew my name after the first night which floored me coz I didnt even remember meeting some of them (drink package got me good 😂🤣)

You can actually go on a tour of the towers. First stop the sky bridge the to a viewing point half way up. Finall, yes you guessed to the observation deck in the very top floor. Oh my God what view. You need to book inn advance (I booked 2-3 months in advance) otherwise you will not get to go up!
