Yeah, why the drama, as if it personally affected them? Learning as an adult to drive a boat isn't easy. You've already likely learned how to drive a car. A boat is a whole different thing--more like driving a car with bald tires...on ICE. So it's difficult. And she wasn't too screwed-up for a novice.

Pontoon common for me: Ex drops me on dock and backs out. I get truck and back down ramp until all bunks are buried in the water to “lube” them. Pull forward so 6-8’ of bunk are in the air. Ex is pulling up to dock as I meet boat. She disembarks and we We walk boat onto the bunks with bows between the guides. I board and take helm, she stands by at the front of trailer but to the side to give distance to contact signals. I power the boat up the bunks and contact the bow stop. I kill motors, raise them, go to bow lean over and connect winch strap. Winch tight, connect safety chain, get in truc’ and pull up to prep/breakdown area. It’s soooooo easy once you learn to use the wind and current.

My brothers and I were 14and 15 years old back in 1965. We had a 15 foot tri haul with a 45 hp Chrysler engine on it. We went everywhere in it. We were all over Tampa Bay we were in the shipping lanes, we were even there water skiing in the area when they brought the bounty in to make the flipper movie at the pier. We hit plenty of sand bars in our days we just get out and push the boat right on past them like it was nothing. People have been so dumb ed down, as can be seen by these videos, that it is obvious they make more money than what their mentality is able to cope with.

So I do have a pontoon just like the one featured and I can ashore you that is not the way to land and trailer your pontoon. First off the pontoons are aluminum and when you hit concrete with the front of them it puts nicks in the aluminum and they are razor sharp and what is the first thing people do when they walk up to a pontoon? Run your hand along the part that cuts the water. Stich city! Second. WTF is he thinking backing his trailer that far in the water. He is never going to get the boat to stay lined up with the bunks when he pulls out. With that style trailer you leave half the bunks out of the water and drive the boat right on then use the winch to pull it up tight. I would have liked to see him pulling it out of the water and have the boat sitting cross way on the bunks.

You read my mind. And I never owned, drove, or even rode on one of those. But I've serviced them and looked them over carefully. I'll go even further and say that I think he could've put a hole in a pontoon doing that, but you'd know better than me.

These people need to learn a few things. 1.When approaching a dock first be aware of winds and currents. 2. Approach slowly. 3.If making corrections just bump it in gear then back out...small short slow corrections are usually all that's needed. Be sure to know what direction your motor needs to be facing to make the desired correction. 4. If you are close to the dock then don't back all the way out into open water to make another approach, all that is usually needed are short slow corrections to get in position again. You are wasting time and holding up other people. 5. BEFORE approaching a dock, know what side your lines be attached and connect the lines to the appropriate cleats before making your approach. Too often people get in position and then start fumbling with finding and attaching lines to the boat. That is foolish and usually results in the boat moving out of position before you can get lines attached. If done right docking a boat is easy!!!

NO ONE jumps on or off my boat until it is secured to the dock with at least one midships line, which can normally hold most small boats squarely to the dock. It's the first line over when I am single-handing. If I have others onboard, I get them involved and brief them on the planned approach. LARGE fenders are ALWAYS deployed and lines are prepped forward, midships, and aft. When departing a dock, I tell the "crew" exactly what I plan to do and what their responsibilities will be in the process. This stuff isn't brain surgery... my Gawd!
