This story takes us inside an unusually tall house that used to belong to the Robero Family, A family that was not ordinary but extraordinary. On entering their forgotten time capsule we were shocked. How could have happened, who had done this? Their beloved house was completely ruined. This touched us and we could not let it happen, so we decided to do something about it and restore the place back to its former glory. It all began in the year 1959, the mother Laura and her husband Joan, were expecting their fifth child and their curling house was bursting through its walls. Construction had finally finished on their tollhouse and that year they moved in. Over the year they got many more children and at a certain point, the family consisted of more than 11 people. The family was not rich, Laura worked at a local library, and Joan was believed to be active in the viticulture around the area. Every child of the family had to uptake their part in maintaining the family. Luxurious was not to be found anywhere. But needless to say, the family had a way of making the house luxurious in their own way. Over the years the children started to move out, one after the other until the last one was gone, a few years later her husband passed away and Laura suddenly found herself alone in this enormous place. At the age of 90 years old, Laura Drew her last breath and left the tall house forever…

The greatest pleasure in the world is watching the angels at restoring faith in humanity.. You both made innumerable people to feel proud of.. People these days are habituated in breaking, vandalising, destroying (from relationship to mother nature), among them only a few such amazing people like you who can even restore almost decayed belongings of some unfamiliar people with utmost care and respect.. Hats off to you.. I do believe you're in prayers of countless people, so danger won't even dare to touch you.. 😊😊 I'm kinda impatient to watch long videos except study related videos.. But in case of your videos it feels like time flies and I don't even realise when the end part comes.. So heartwarming videos.. Always great to watch and never failed to put smile upon my face.. Hope the earth will be dominated by people like you more and more who care about not only their own possessions but also respect and care about others'..what more can I say? Stay blessed, happy and healthy.. 😇😇👍👍🙏🙏

I have always appreciated the respect and sensitivity you have for these abandoned homes and those who once lived in them. Cleaning up the vandalism is a beautiful gesture. Nurses used to graduate in white, so perhaps there was a nurse in the family. It is hard for me to believe that I am older than this house by a decade. Once again, thank you for sharing this with us.🖤🇨🇦

I do also think the white graduation outfit maybe has to do something with a medical study Nurse or even Doctor maybe. Could also mean something totally different cause some universities and country's do have colors for a certain study direction or study field.
@tamarrajames3590
@tamarrajames3590 3 жыл бұрын
@@__Marielle__ You are right about different colours are often used to denote areas of study. I felt like it was medical because at the time the photo was taken white was universal, I think that started so medics were easy to distinguish during WWI and it helped them not get shot. I enjoy trying to figure out that kind of thing on their explorations.🖤🇨🇦

As a child of the 60’s, I look at the toys and the old playpen in the basement area and wonder if perhaps it was an area for Mum to rest with baby in the heat of the day and still stay close to the vineyard. Another possibility is that as the older children married and had children of their own, perhaps they stayed down there and used the old things for visits. It’s lovely that you took time and worked to restored the rooms.

Thank you for the care and respect you have for this house and thank you for the tour. In the picture of the young man, he seems to be wearing a cassock like the ones Catholic priests wear. Perhaps he was in a seminary studying for the priesthood. The room with the rosary (prayer beads) was probably where the young man studied and prayed. It was the most carefully decorated room and looked like a little chapel in some way. The family probably had sacred items on the shelves and maybe pictures of Jesus and saints on the walls. Again, thank you both for this tour. Peace and blessings!

As I come from a very large family, my parents had 7 children, and my grandparents 11. I assume the feeding arrangements would be the same for the family who lived in this home. Example: The men and oldest boys eat first. Because they have to get out and work. Next the younger boys eat. And get to their chores. Since the mother and oldest daughter would be cooking the next oldest girls world eat next. They would then gather the youngest girls and infant boys because they would be expected to assist them with eating. Lastly the mother and oldest daughter would eat while all the girls would began their chores. After the last plate was cleared the mom and eldest daughter would start making lunch and here we go again

@@marieboutin9054 Happiness is not in things. So, likewise, true wealth isn't, either. It is plain to me that this family got along materially just fine -- and *prospered* in family and faith. That the children left the house behind when they grew up only means that their lives were not centered in the building or the things in it -- especially after the parents passed to eternity. Home is the people you love, not the house they live in or the stuff in it. Children are our riches. I know. I have ten. ❤

Looking at those pictures, I'm quite sure it was the father that went to Africa to work while the family remained behind in the care of the mother. Many, many, many men left the country to work abroad while the mother remained home to take care of the house and the children. Remember, Portugal had colonies/territories in Africa (Mozambique, Angola and Guinea Bissau) up until 1974, so it's quite natural that the father worked in Africa. In fact, they still do! I know one gentleman that just returned from Africa this year, while his wife remained here in Portugal and raised their children. His eldest sone is 17yrs old and only saw his father once or twice since he was about 4yrs old.

They way they fed the family would be the kids fed first (earlier) and put to bed. While the kids are being put to bed, the elderly (if grandparents lived with them) and/or men, would be fed next, and then once everyone had eaten, the women who cooked the meals would sit down to eat while the men relaxed, conversed before bed. Once the men started getting ready for bed, the women would clean up. Such was the way...

The picture of the young lady in white is probably a 'confirmation' picture. A christian rite of passage.

Wow, you guys are so kind hearted. To clean the house after Vandals came n destroyed it. How amazing! I have watched so many of these types of Videos n have often wanted to go clean the places back up after bad Vandals trashed them. I am proud of you.

The ''boy'' in the uniform is actually a Catholic Priest...........most likely one of the Family members as that would have been traditional in the day for at least one or more male/female member to enter the priesthood or convent.

Ok, that rosary on the wall (what you call praying beads) does not mean they used it as a praying room. Each person, would have their own rosary and would pray the rosary on their own or as a couple, or if a child, with the mother watching over them. That rosary on the wall was no different than having a cross on the wall or a print/painting of a religious icon. It's not for praying.
