The first machine you called a washing machine, was in fact, a spin dryer, to get excess water out of clothes before hanging them to dry. The second machine was the washing machine, and not the dryer, you hooked the rubber hoses up to the taps to fill it. The centre paddle was called an agitator, and would rotate back and forth to move the clothes around.

This house is similar to the oldest houses here in Brazil. Also we are used to use this pineapple's bottle, I had laughed when I saw it kk. FYI: that thing hanging on the wall you thought it might be some kind of oil dispenser is actually a device to administer an enema, also known as clyster, which was used to stimulate stool evacuation. You would fill it with a liquid and then inject the liquid into the rectum in order to relieve severe constipation. The big clay container in the kitchen was not for wine, it was used to keep the water fresh and pure. I don't think this family was poor, they had pretty expensive stuff for their time. By the way, I love your videos. Keep up the good work.

Actually, 99% of what he says is made up shit. I wish they would include facts and not the nonsensical fairy telling. Bypassing beautiful architecture and artwork (not just oil paintings) but also carvings, statues, hand-made tiles, etc. to show us close ups of some awful ashtrays is beyond sad and such a waste because you know some knuckle-heads are going to go in and destroy what they can and spray paint everywhere else and it will all be lost. I think I will look into them again in a year and see if they have matured.

Another wonderful video of a typical Portuguese family! Interesting to see that their culture is sooo very different than ours! They may have been poor, but they had gorgeous wooden furniture, that was sooo very unique & beautiful! Amazing how she was illiterate until age 63… wow… what incentive to go back to school after all of that time, to learn to read & write! Good for her! That took fortitude! I’m sooo very glad that you have Danny there with you to translate their customs & give interpretations of the lifestyle! He is sooo very valuable to have around! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us! I loved it ❤️👍

Thank you once more Lesley and Danny, for taking us into the life of someone that time seems to have forgotten! The machine that you thought was a dryer "the square one" is a washing machine and the round one was a spin dryer " this just spun out the water" then the clothes ready to hang up to dry! I used one in the early years of our marriage, in the early 70s! Then in 1974, out came the first Phillips automatic washing machine, that washed and spun off, just like todays do! I loved that machine & it lasted 13 years!

Hi Lesley & Danny, love the wooden carved cabinets & chairs! Wow, never knew wood silverware before stainless steel ones!! I never seen a shower thing in bathroom before! I never seen a oil light above the bed & you explaining it what ball holds, most interesting!! Yes those cloth tissues you said are called Handkerchief`s. They had these in USA, up to the 1950`s. I have a few from my Mother. The cloth you picked up that was round & detailed to put under things is called Doily`s ! As for the carved chairs that are beautiful, if it has dust on them better to blow dirt off instead of wipe it. Love the chest or ( trunk as we call it here. ) Now for the new part of house...never saw that kind of washing machine or dryer. You should of shut kitchen window to preserve what is left in the kitchen. Wow, love the paper list to go to grocery store, but here we still write a grocery list on paper...no one uses their smartphones-2022. Ok, drawings that a child made was 1995 so longer staying than calendar 1992. The green glasses are worth money! Kids play cars are very expensive in USA. Ok the pencil pen you called it is actually was called Reed Pens, Quill Pens, Dip Pens, before ballpoint pens. Great Video!

Thank you as always Lesley for your narrative and your cameraman for his fine job. You are truly stars ✨ that have fallen from the heavens to bless us and enlighten us. You’re voice is mesmerizing and I’m surprised if you haven’t been offered something in the broadcasting field, or with your handsome looks 👀 something in film or TV. Please keep up the excellent work. Much love 💕 from the USA ((Utah). Be well 💋

Just watched this. We had showers like that in Texas, but we had to walk out to the backyard. You're amazing.

This was a great place and great story about the lady. She must have been a very strong lady. To bad her house is going to decay. Love Leslie
