Thanks Katie. There’s some fascinating stories there. I thought I knew the City fairly well but I had never heard of Turnagain Lane. Just goes to show there’s always something new to learn about London.

That's so good. I usually stay in Westminster and walk down Cockpit steps towards the good stuff! I always wondered why it was called that!

I like the ironically named "mount pleasant" where the royal mail sorting office is (the mail rail is definitely worth a visit). Mount Pleasant was particularly unpleasant, being the largest location where London's waste (read: excrement) and ashes were deposited - highlighted by the name of adjacent road, Laystall Street. Later ColdBath Fields prison was located here. I was working for a while on the development that is being built here and used to chuckle at the ground workers digging deep into the old "mound"

I always mused that it was no coincidence that Cock Lane also contains the statue of The Golden Boy Of Pye Corner, and yes, he is naked - a pun on the name.

YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR HISTORY. Sir christopher hatton never married and didnt have a wife, bleeding heart (originally hart) was named after a pub that was there, hart being a deer.
