Really like this format. One thing that's so helpful is deep diving the artist and record info, genre, facts etc. It really helps ones knowledge and helps narrow down things one might like / dislike / search for when digging. So I appreciate these big time!

The weird stuff is where it's at, especially taking stuff that sound normal and completely transforming it into something unusual. Sun-Ra's creations are a separate world of its own; reminds me alot of Pierre Henry with more jazz influence.

Yeah and if not for sampling just taking ideas for arrangement is also great.

Liking this esoteric vibe. Interesting background. Unfortunately, John Cage's audio was very low. That short video at the beginning was cool. I love these little snapshots into the past; like the cars, sidewalks; messages and the font used on the door. Perhaps I'm being nostalgic.

Love using weird stuff in my beat production. I also love Sun Ra, but I honestly didn’t know he had vinyl with just weird sounds. I only heard 1 or 2 records of him rapping. Thanks for sharing and cool segment! I think this might be a popular thing on your channel.

ive definitely come by Sun Ra on my "obscure jazz music from the 60s-70s" youtube sample searches. Might have to relisten, what i heard was off putting on its own, but you make a good point about random interesting sounds to sample.

@@mpchead Would be cool if you held a beat review where you give us producers a song to sample and see who comes up with the best track. I sometimes submit to Bolo da Producers weekly beat review. He charges 10$ for a beat submission. You could make some extra cash and we could form a Boom bap old school sampling community.

Hey bro, Robert here (stereo magik on Spotify) as someone new to sampling, what would you recommend? I am of the opinion instead of spending a grand on a record player and an mpc, I can get results by using things like tracklib and splice for samples. Sample packs and such, love your work on the channel so thought you'd be a good person to ask. Nice one

Yo Marlow I have something I’ve really been struggling with I feel like I’m not comfortable with short 4 bar samples I always feel like I need them longer and I’m wondering is a sample as long as 8 to 12 bars ideal in sampling beat making?
@mpchead
@mpchead Жыл бұрын
not really. the struggle of sampling is that. You gotta make it work with smaller chops or loops

thanks for content! ...new sub and newb question: I've noticed almost everyone mostly capturing audio samples from phono records. why is this preferred over cd's or streaming? I hardly come across anyone pulling sound from cd's.

Audio quality, analog, and just love for vinyl. You can sample from anything, no rules.

CDs are outdated in general. If people want crisp digitized audio, they're going to pull from streaming not CDs (which is the case for the majority of young bedroom producers)

@@Sergio-nb4hj thanks it makes perfect sense... trying to learn about existing limitations and best ways and tools around sampling. Such a overwhelmingly diverse world now.
