Nice to see how people watch a video but do not pay attention to the information. Like chasing livestock and disappearing onto other properties? Wherever he goes, he can't be left to roam until coming when called is part of his repertoire. As we were told nothing of his history, it is possible that he was running free before he was caught and sent to a foster home in which case running free on a farm is probably the last thing he needs now when he's just getting used to living in a house. What I am surprised about though is that a foster mum allowed a dog to 'get away from her in the parking lot'. Getting my dogs in and out of the car in public places is where I am probably most careful not to be out of control, and those are my own, trained dogs. They wear seat belts in the car (by law, animals have to be restrained in cars in the UK even if it wasn't common sense) and their lead is on before the seat belt is undone. Very safe and simple. I would be even more cautious if they were dogs I was looking after.

No, that's why we ensure our dogs are so bonded to us, it doesn't matter if they are unleashed.... they are always look to make sure we are not far away. Our current (and we swear our last dog) rescue was adopted out 3 times and returned because she was a runner...a rat terrier who can run at the speed of light. After 5 years with us, she's such a busy girl, I wish sometimes she would keep running (I lie). This lady's dog is probably living such a sedentary life, it was looking for adventure. I do not say this to be cruel but usually you see lost dogs going crazy when their owner finds them. I feel that having 11 dogs in the last 47 years, without fencing, I might have learned something.
@donnabaardsen53722 жыл бұрын
@@lyndakelly564 Not so, and that's why there are leash laws. Our pets are animals first and foremost. And regardless of how "bonded" they are to us/we to them, their natural instincts will and often do take over. Just last week a family dog, a Pitbull, killed the two children, and almost killed their mother as she tried to save them. This dog described as a dear family pet. How about the dog sitter who was almost mauled to death the minute she got in the house. She'd met and spent a lot of time with them previously. The police couldn't enter the house to save her, the dog's were so vicious. In both cases, beloved family pet's. Countless such stories of supposed angel, well-bonded pet's turning on the family, running away, etc. Including my childhood dog. Absolute devotion and obedience... until one day he just took off. After almost a week, we found him near death beside our porch. He'd been attacked by, the vet said, a badger, wild animal of some sort. He was astounded that our beloved dog was still alive, much less had made it home. He'd lost most of his blood, and his side and abdomen were ripped open. Only our strong bond brought him back to us, barely alive. We learned a very tough lesson, and he almost died because of our negligence: their nature WILL take over when nature calls them. He was never again allowed to roam freely...nor did he want to. It DOES matter "if they are unleashed." The only time it doesn't, is when owner's don't want to be bothered doing it. Because it requires work. Kind of like allowing our children to roam because they don't like rules. Until they get hurt or worse. Pet's and children should never be put in dangerous situations just to prove a point. And more than likely, to make life easier for owner's and parent's.

I agree that this foster mum was careless to allow a new-to-her foster out of the car without making sure he was on his lead, but few dogs will get as bonded as Lynda thinks they should be to a foster mum, and it's probably not good for the dog or the human for that to happen or there would be endless foster fails. Not convinced he was terrified though so he may have lived wild before she was given him to care for - he just didn't want to be caught. Didn't show cornered terrified-dog behaviour when they dragged him out from the tree, and she was quite confident to put her hands in to grab his collar.

To those who lose pets, use this trick: leave some of your WORN clothing (wear it without washing it) near food or safe zones. On your porch or familiar places. Maybe even breadcrumb some articles. Use it for pets you take to the vet overnight so they know you're coming back for them. It works. Edit: Scent sense memory (smell) is what you're appealing to.

This story resonates with me as we have a similar foxy dog. Sasha was found, covered in mug on the side of the road. We brought her home only to find out she had gotten lose at her foster home just two miles away, despite having a shock collar and a wire fence. Obviously we kept her. But make no mistake about it. She is unlike any dog we have ever had. We call her the "Littlest Hobo". She is entirely all to herself, despite seemingly loving to all the family including her big sis Jade. She is as wild as they come, and if let lose... She will bolt, and not necessarily come home. There are dogs out there that will happily live their lives in the abisis. We keep her safe because we love her, Jade loves her and because we know that one day she will become an old dog. And I can't imagine her being alone in those times. Cheers.

ONE day after my youngest son’s baseball game we passed the park by our neighborhood where there was a 4 county adoption event going on, the boys asked to please stop and “show love”. We’ve always adopted and always would go once a month to show love at the local shelter. Anyway, we’re about to leave when this beautiful Great Dane/mastiff mix walks up and lays in my lap 👀. My husband said “I’ll get the checkbook”. We brought Bailey home, I’d never seen Chance so happy. Needless to say, we’d leave the gate open and he never left again ❤️🐾💙

One thing to ALWAYS remember if your dog runs off. Calmly go after him, do not run or panick (though hard not to understandably). If that doesn’t work, Stop going after him/her! You are leaving your scent all over the place which confuses them. Go back to the place they originally ran off from (your car, house, parking lot, Vet, etc. Stay there if you can and let strangers know to call you if they see him. Most importantly, no matter how long you have had your pup, when they take off, they are not the same dog in that moment. No matter how much of a bond you have, the instincts take over. Then, put up flyers if the haven't returned within an hour or two.
@laceandbits2 жыл бұрын
As he's a foster dog and we weren't told how long she'd been looking after him, he likely hadn't been with her long enough yet to form a bond with her or her house; at the end we were told he had to get "reacclimated with the other dogs" and that "he was coming round to her more" and both remarks confirm that hypothesis. Most importantly, make sure your dog is properly on a lead before you open the car door!.
