We all love Eddie because he embodies what most of us were in high school. The nice kid who had the long hair, the metal band shirts, and looked like the loner. Loved by those who knew him, but mostly not seen by anyone else, and judged by those who needed to play the part to “fit in”. Eddie was sweet, honest, kind but mostly judged or ignored. His character was so well written, and many of us growing up can resonate with the character. Such an impactful character, maybe we can take a lesson and look at how we treat others.

Its a shame that they killed him off, I know writers have to make tough choiches but i feel like Eddie was really something new in the show, he really added something unique and thats why he became everyone's favorite in linke 5 episodes and with a little amount of screentime. I think it was a mistake, as much as I LOVE Steve or Jonathan I feel like they're only there to be Nancy's love triangle. Don't get me wrong, especially Steve, is an amazing character who had an amazing narrative arch. But he's there only as comic relief/babysitting and now to re-ignite the spark with Nancy. One of them between Steve and Johnatan will clearly die in S5, maybe they could have anticipated that in S4 by letting Eddie live...

They didn't expect how much the fans would love him. The series has always had a penchant for killing secondary characters. Bob and Billy met a heroic death at the end of the season by being bitten/stung in the stomach. I like Eddie, he's the coolest new character, but I kind of think his death was predictable from the start (especially after his speech in the first episode that it would be his year because when someone says it on TV then everything always goes to shit one way or another)

eddie’s character progression is so incredible. he was seen as a freak, he ran away, but he made friends who accepted him as he is, and then, he stopped running. he turned around, he looked back, and he could have seen people who judged him, who avoided him, but he saw people to save. and he gave his life for it. the fact that he decided to fight for people who didn’t even consider him is honestly so brave of him and nothing will ever change that.

I think Eddie was such a loveable character because of the "spiderman" complex. Spiderman self sacrifices over and over again, yet is hated by many people because of the Daily Bugle. Eddie, was a funny, charismatic, hero origin story. We sympathized for his plight, and cheered for his victories. When he sacrificed himself it was like loosing a hero. Someone you routed for, you wanted them to win. But they never did. So the injustice by the characters in the show towards Eddie, is met with justice from the fans of the show. At the end of the day.... Eddie is a made up character and his face is on someone's lawn. That's awesome. lol

He was also an authentic, positive representation of metalheads in the 1980s who were often demonized by other social cliques and mass media, so his character was bound to be villainized by society while being an actual hero in the show. For those wondering why all the hype, here's my take: 1.- Eddie is just a very well-written character. A LOT of people identified with him (outsiders, metalheads, "weirdos", etc). Despite all of his flaws we get to see the bright side of him. He befriens with people very diferent from him and seems to care for them. Deep down inside he had charisma. 2.- Most viewers empathized with him because everybody saw him as the bad guy when he really wasn't. The audience was very saddened by the fact that he died a hero and never got to prove his innocence. Maybe this is all cliché but it worked wonders. 3.- Master of Puppets is considered by many to be Metallica's best song. A very wise move by the Duffer bros for including one of the greatest heavy metal bands in the series. 4.- Joseph Quinn actualy PLAYED the guitar in that scene (except for the solo)... something all of us guitar players can truly appreciate. He was the perfect fit for that role. I think no other actor could've done it better. Just my humble opinion. Cheers

I feel that the reason people connected so well with him is that scene at the picnic table with chrissy- where they defy each other's expectations, because that is the quality of the kind of person that people keep beyond arms reach, too afraid to know the real person, and there is so much of that in each of us

If you want see how quickly you fan flesh out a character and have them have an incredible emotional impact, go watch Elfen Lied, which inspired Stranger things. There's a character in Elfen Lied that in just 2 1/2 episodes is one of the most emotionally hard hitting characters in TV history. I wont say her name here, but the Duffer Brothers really took amazing inspiration from Elfen Lied, and it shows In Stranger Things.

I agree, Eddie is the best thing to happen to this show aside from babysitter Steve. I hope they bring him back. If they could bring Papa back with ZERO explanation, they can bring Eddie back by making him a vampire or transforming him into Kas (plus how STOKED would Eddie be to actually become a D and D character?!?). His sacrifice was dumb anyway, it wasn't even necessary for their survival and that adds insult to injury. Plus I want more Eddie and the group scenes!
