There seems to be a misconception growing here that you need Houdini. You don’t. I use it because it’s easier for me and I really like it for some things. You can do almost any of this in Blender.

really wish you would have just stuck to blender for the cobweb/slime stuff, gonna have to figure out how to do that in blender
@KevBinge2 жыл бұрын
I did it in Blender. Houdini just pushed it a bit. Play with cloth in Blender… but it’s headache inducing… or Geometry Nodes if it doesn’t crash.
@nah32142 жыл бұрын
@@KevBinge alright a day of failing later I still can't hack it, I get that geometry nodes can create parametric shapes, but I have no idea how to tie them to the form of the vines like you did with the scattered points in houdini. Please, save my computer from being shot into space by me, how on earth do you do that in blender. "playing with cloth" would help with the simulation of the slime but not its initial generation, I'm losing my mind lol

How did you add Houdini alembic file's motion blur with cycles? It only works with eevee for me.
@KevBinge3 жыл бұрын
I usually have to pass vector attributes with it. It it just worked for this. I probably have it set in an output digital asset or variables and forgot to address it haha! Good reminder now for me to go back in and look lol.
@enentee3 жыл бұрын
@@KevBinge I have tried with vel and v but Blender doesn't recognize Houdini's vector attributes. Anyways, Thank you for going back through your old files. Will appreciate a solution soon :)
@KevBinge3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s really weird in this one because I didn’t pass any custom attributes in the ROP at all, and it rendered motion blur. The vines had no circular vector blur through, so I wonder if it would have stuttered if anything turned... This is a great question you have.
@KevBinge3 жыл бұрын
I DID use vector blur in Blender’s compositing ... I wonder if it read whatever Blender passed to it in the EXR...
@enentee3 жыл бұрын
@@KevBinge I think the Blur worked because it was originally a blender alembic file which was imported back to blender with only a few changes(might not work with simulations). I might be wrong though or it might just be a compositing thing lol

How do you add the vines in blender without Houdini
@KevBinge3 жыл бұрын
You can fake it all with texture maps and come pretty close.

So just getting into blender the last couple months im loving it and was stoked with this video until you went to Houdini lol, is there a way to do this without Houdini and get the same quality or is blender just not capable?
@KevBinge3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Blender IS capable, but it’s much more difficult to get this exact type of thing at the moment. That will change as geometry nodes improves. I like Houdini and just like to show workflow stuff, and that you don’t have to just use one piece of software for everything.
