@@marshall442 probably how it looked before our world and that world connected and it copy and pasted everything. Either that or it was a different part of the upside down we've never seen. Bonus: 001 just copy pasted Hawkins and made it a part of it. WAIT just noticed nothing. The day the gate opened or closed, Nancy's house was frozen. 001 definitely pasted Hawkins in the upside down and the reason why theres nothing new because he hasn't really seen hawkins after being sent there. I dunno, many possibilities

He was sent there in 1979, 4 years before Eleven opened the 2nd gate and the Demogorgon came out and took Will. 001/Vecna wouldn't have known what Hawkins looked like in 1983, only what it looked like in 1979. I'm more on the side of your "it was a different part of the upside down we've never seen." theory. I also think the Upside Down is the whole world not just Hawkins. Yes we haven't been shown that to be true but maybe this season or season 5, we will find out.

Dr. Brenner does know what happened. Remember he’s the one who kept a record of all the video recordings of what happened at Hawkins lab. & he’s showing them to Eleven through the Nina Project machine

11 didn't create the upside down. She just sent him there. It's existed for a very long time.

El didnt create the upside down , it was always there , home to demogorgons and the mind flayer , 11s “exclusive power” is opening gates to it at will unlike the Russians who have to use insane amounts of energy to just make a tiny scratch on reality , she banished him to the upside down probably thinking it killed him , el didn’t know anything about the upside down only that she could create gates I suppose . That’s how vecna survived . My theory is that when the upside down detected a foreign body from another dimension in its domain it accidentally attracted lighting , henceforth vecna being targeted by the thunder and lightning , or maybe it was the mind flayer .

Nobody’s noticed it, but throughout the season so far, they dropped one very small hint: Vecna, 001, and Henry Creel all have the exact same eyes. The smallest hint hidden in plain sight, and even I’ve never noticed before

Vecna didn’t attack anyone when he was first sent to the upside down because Eleven was in Hawkins. She beat him once; but she left. Hawkins was ripe for the taking.

The biggest unanswered question is...Where did Henry Creel (001) get his powers in the first place since it was his blood/genetics that created all the rest of the test subjects including El. IMO Dr. Brenner's arc of seeming to be a cold-hearted unsympathetic SOB is just distraction. If you remember when they were in the testing room where they were supposed to stay within their circles, he was standing in front of Eleven and said something to the affect that if they allow anger or emotion to invade their thoughts "they will lose". So, I believe that he was trying to get Eleven to retrain her powers so she wasn't using anger or sadness to come out.

Steve is my absolute favorite, I like Eddie too and I like max a lot especially in this season and episode 4, shit had me fucking crying. Every time I hear that song now I think of that scene. Did you know the dude trying to help 11 he played in twilight. I like/hate him lol. It’s pretty cool that Johnathan and Nancy are together in real life, I do like Steve and Nancy together in the show too. No she didn’t open the gate lol
