I worked with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in in the early 1990s. We erected 32 treated poles with 4' X 4' platforms on the tops to provide nest sites for Ospreys. We didn't build any nests on them. By the time nesting season arrived, all of the platforms had huge, occupied nests on them. You've done a super job at Crimson Oak! ! !

Hrmm, I wonder if you worked on the osprey nests I saw as a kid. Were you in southern Alabama and/or northern Florida, by chance? There were loads of poles set up for osprey nests around there when I was a kid in the 90s. I mean, I hope there still are, but it's been thirty years so who knows?

That was a Hawk moth. They come out at night especially just before dark night and in the morning. They are almost spitting image of a hummingbird in air, but they don’t have tail feathers, naturally. They are great for evening flowering plants like evening stock. We get them here in Southern Alberta, Canada as well. During the day you can find them in plant pots if they are hanging around. They may be in the trees there. Pretty cool as well!!

@@C.S.KZbin i think a pile of branches on the ground for them to pick from and a couple of bigger branches securing around the parameter of the platform more to prevent blow-offs from happening but also in the hope it might instigate more branches to get deposited up there

Just telling you, it doesn’t happen that way, they pick and chose just all birds do when deciding a nesting site and Eagles like the highest tree around their fishing grounds that is suitable for a nest and the platform isn’t it.
@troybing6665
@troybing6665 7 ай бұрын
Have any of you seen a real Eagles nest, I doubt it, not that they can’t make a nest on that platform but it’s to low and Eagles like the highest tree usually overlooking a river and a big lake.
@jimmyhughes5392
@jimmyhughes5392 7 ай бұрын
@@troybing6665 you're missing the point, even if it was high enough and an eagle wanted to build a nest up there, there is a reason there is an upside down tree stump nicknamed the oak throne submerged in the pond. without a barrier or windbreak a nest will be blown off before it's even half built, having branches secured around the edge if anything will at least provide a natural perching point for birds to land on compared to the square cut wood currently on offer and on the off chance a nest does get built its going to help retain it.

For the nest I think don't build a whole nest to put up but maybe put a few natural branches up there to encircle it a bit and make an area that the eagles might think looks more secure and private. Maybe leave nesting material scattered around nearby to encourage them?

Definitely add some large branches to the nest. Get it going for em. The chance of eagles building there is slim IMO but you'll definitely get something in there if you build a nest...owls, ducks, osprey. Gonna be tough to get an eagle unless you get a newly bonded pair that doesn't have a previous nesting site.

Love all of your content. Been following you since the pond build started but was watching all your top water fishing videos before that. Was cool to find out that I only love a few hours away on the other side of the state. I enjoy all the processes and the details you give on everything. Excited to see when you get some tanks in the pond and to see just how big mobi will be when you move him into the backyard pond.

love this series so much, i think a great name for a bass would be “Tank”! i definitely think you should leave the platform for a more natural nest, but i’m also all for you upping your chances for the nest to be used. thanks for the constant updates and videos! if you ever do it public/reserved public event i would do my best to make it, it’d be a once in a lifetime experience to see a farm/Pond this beautiful. much appreciation, stay safe!

I think the Eagle platform needs a couple more braces on the sides. Their nest are huge and probably will need a little more support on the sides. LOVE the channel!!

Thanks for the video. So cool, and made me smile the whole video. You got a down-to-earth narrative style and the theme of attaching a 4k underwater cam to a bass? righteous! :)

I'm just loving your journey with the ponds and the wildlife. I feel so privileged to spend time with you, so much so that every time you catch a bass for tracking, I join in with you "Got him" (and I say it in your wonderful accent too!) Thank you for taking us along with you. 😊

Super cool bass footage!!!! Definitely want more! I film off my dock and I worried that it would always be kinda the same, but it's not. Water clarity, activity, turtles, snakes, getting footage is great info on what's happening, just like you seeing that newborn bass, that was awesome. I just drop a gopro off the dock and let it run till it dies.

Def more of the underwater footage! It's so cool to see. Maybe try on a big tilapia. That would be pretty cool too, to see the perspective of each type of fish. Surprised we didn't see other bass on their swim.
