Why wasn't he playing with a band? He should be playing right up there with Clapton and everyone else! Why not include this on the official concert release? Philip is a beast on that strat!

Still curious as to why they didn't let Philip play with everyone else, and they didn't include this in the official dvd/bluray release. Maybe because Philip's playing is more intense and ferocious than anyone else there, that he would blow them away and not fit in with the rest with their reserved and tame blues style?

Good point. It reminds me when in and interview SRV said that Hendrix scared too many people by his skills and maybe he could be helped in his last seconds. Well… maybe Philip sayce still scaring too many people….

Philip is a legend. He played with Jeff Healey. He is objectively a better player than probably everyone that played on that stage that day, except for maybe Derek Trucks. It was absolutely criminal for them to not give him a set with his own band. Clapton trotted out the same old boring boomer players. Very sad indeed.

Well said man. He could have wiped the floor with pretty much anyone else there

Nobody is better than anybody mate... & as somebody that knows Phill in real life he’d disagree with you. Guys like this are meant to be admired not compared

@@keithremedy lolololololol cool take galaxy brain. yes there are players that are objectively better than others. Philip, Stevie, Clapton, Hendrix are all objectively better than your average weekend musician in some random mid sized city. At the highest levels, amongst the best players, it becomes harder to parse out who is better but I can tell you Philip is indeed a better player than most who took the stage that day. I also know Philip IRL. Have been to countless shows of his, hung out with him backstage at 2009 NAMM. Even did some marketing stuff for him in that period of time online. Maybe he would disagree it doesn't make it not true.

@@clarkengelbert294 You're right buddy. There IS a such thing as better. And Philip Sayce is better than everyone else alive. And that's just what it is. I'm a session guitarist and I've played with almost all my heroes. Philip stands out the most. His vibrato is alien level, and he does some things that no one has done. His bends are also alien level. Philip Sayce should get the money and respect that Mayer, Gales, Joe B, Trucks, etc get. He IS definitely better. We as guitarists just keep it humble by saying no one is better. Because better is subjective. What's great to you may suck to me. However, it doesn't take long of listening to Philip live to get it. He is something special. You were spot on with that comment bro. 🤘

Just re watched this crossroads dvd and still can’t believe he had to compete to get a one song spot. Easily one of the best players that was there that year.

Marc Highliner I never heard Jimi Hendrix play these songs? He may use some techniques hendrix used, his take on it is completely unique.

This guy is like SRV and Jimi had a baby, and that baby could write their own original songs and entertain a crowd with the best. Copycat? Hah. That's what music is! That's why they call it being "influenced" by someone. Copying means you cant be original. To say this isn't original means you aren't listening to the music for what it is, and instead you're comparing it to what you expect.

@@lucasplowman3245 To Hendrix credit, he put back more than he took/borrowed and maybe that's the difference.

@@superdriver777 John Mayer is much closer to a Jimi and Stevie baby. He can actually write songs and produce his own stuff. He also branches way more out in to jazz than Sayce does.
