Fun fact: The game measures fields in morgans. A morgan is a historical term that means "the area a single ox can plow in one morning." So, 30 fields of one morgan each should be able to be plowed by a single ox in one month. If this is impossible in the game, then it begs the question of why the designer chose a morgan as a unit of measurement in a game where you can have oxen plow fields.

Added tip for foresting: Have a few logging buildings and rotate them. Have foresters on places not being logged and loggers in places that have been reforested. Rotate them out. They cost almost nothing to build, build quickly, and so I would suggest making many of them where you plan to forest. You can also place where and a foresters hut WHERE THERE ARE NO TREES...and then have a forest plant trees around it so that they will be ready when you need it. If you are hitting max logs on a Logging camp, swap to a different one OR even move it/build another nearby so that they can keep storing the timber. Having more logging camps means more places to store timber which means less bottlenecking down the line. I've seemed to notice more success with foresters when they aren't foresting where there is a logging operation going, I think they may be cutting down small trees before they grow, which Idk if that lowers efficiency or not...but it seems like I can staff 2 foresters on an active logging camp forever and the trees will never grow back, at most it just stops them from spreading too far out. I learned the hard way about trees not plantable in winter, lot of wasted labor hours. Tip for Farming: Pull your farms off when crops are in the growing phase, keeping them there does nothing. Also, I would suggest stacking lots of farm houses with oxen, and making sure you have as many field as you have oxen at bare minimum at all times. I think you are right in that more small fields is better than large fields EVERY time. It allows you more spaces for oxen, as well as more spaces for your workers to plow while they wait for an oxen to finish. The more fields = less chance they are waiting to work. Large fields every time I make them end up being a bottleneck. Small fields are always better there is no argument otherwise. Tip for population: Turning someone into an artisan takes them off the labor pool. I started noticing bottlenecks and didn't notice that I was upgrading too quickly and not building enough new homes to replace that labor. Down the line I had a labor squeeze during harvest season that almost killed my village because they couldn't produce enough farm product to offset the demand. So always make sure to replace an artisan upgrade with a new burgage plot so you keep people in the labor pool and don't have less laborers than you have labor needs. Imo, while higher tier laborers unlock unique goods to produce, low tier laborers are overall more valuable for maintaining your village because of farming labor demands being so steep and so necessary for the higher tiers. So I would try to keep an excess amount of low tier labor at all times. Tip for food: Make veggie farms that are large at the periphery of your village. They run passively and do wonders to alleviate food demand in the late game. I had 10 moderately large veggie farms and made insane amounts of food. You can make larger farms by making sure the initial plot region along the road is as small as possible, and then using roads (you can add a road and then delete it to outline a plot you want) to snap the grid to allow it to be larger for the farm. Avoid making veggie plots more than 1 morgen unless you MAYBE have 2 families on the plot from the +family feature. I assume family size will also dictate how much they can plow, but plots larger than 1 morgen tend to not actually get fully harvested and are a waste of space, imo. Reiterating the Road Tool Tip: You can add a road and delete it in order to use it to define a plot shape. I use roads to outline assets that the region tool doesn't automatically avoid, such as stable plots which can cause region errors....as well as for lining up large veggie plot borders for single burgioge plots. As for the video: Finally, a guide that isn't just filled with dumb basic matter of fact shit and ACTUALLY helps us and cuts to the chase on useful info instead of spending 5 minutes of fluff talking about "the problem" and the solution is just what you were thinking to do already but not very efficiently. This guide actually shows you HOW to be more efficient.

@theodorleberle7 ай бұрын
The tip to build and remove roads to outline I found in the videos of One Proud Bavarian and it is great. Your idea to outline the backyards of burgage plots is also very good, because I guess (will try it out) it makes the backlines less edgy and more organic. And: GREAT idea to use it to avoid structures like stables and such. This will also help to have more organic outlines. I wonder if the game designer had this in mind. He really made it great.

Just wanted to double check as the naming can be confusing between farm (actual farm) vs. veggie farm (which is actually a burgage plot). Thank you.

I realized it's also a great tip because sometimes there are heavy rains during harvest season, and the yield is stored out on the fields until it gets transported to the farmhouse little by little, exposing it to the rain & risking losing a large part. The risk of losing much of it due to an accident like this is much lower if it's gathered & stored in small chunks.

The neat thing about logistics is that it's a constant balancing act of "we need to do this better" and "eh, good enough", and you never really know which direction an operation is going to tip until you run it for real. Ultimately your point about burning all your mental energy micromanaging one singular operation is the deciding factor in how the game is played. It's weird, but sometimes it's just plain better to be wasteful with resources, time, or manpower.

@Saionay7 ай бұрын
Which plus/minus button?
@dhcoejr6 ай бұрын
When you place a burgage, the first line you draw will determine the front of the burgages. After you complete the fourth point, the area containing all the burgages will be defined and automatically divided by the game into an appropriate amount of plots. Before you hit the Build button (indicated by the mallet symbol) you will also see just below the Build button a plus and a minus button. You can use these buttons to increase or decrease the number of burgage plots that will occupy the same space you defined. This allows you to put fewer burgages in a space with more space allotted to each burgage. There are caps on how many or how few you can adjust this to.

Another tip: You don't need to grow food at all in fields - you can generate 10x more food by simply adding garden crops to houses - then the only fields you need are for flax and barley for clothing and beer.

@@andromidius My towns goal was to only rely on mines with deep mining and to import food which wont cost me anything by selling iron ore. I have found tonight with testing that if you place a burgage plot directly next to the mine and storehouse it helps, but they will still go all the way back into the main town to collect water from the wells and then transfer the water to their houses. Even if you place a new well near the mine. They will walk all the way back to the main town center for water. I'm guessing to water their garden plots. There is no way to prioritize people to a well.

Great guide and some of it will help me on a new playthrough, especially regarding the part about granaries and storehouses! I would also like to add that you shouldn't build too quickly. I made the mistake of pre-planning where I want to build and placed a lot of buildings down and just paused the construction. Apparently, this made the building AI wonky and my builders didn't work on anything at all, despite having plenty of resources and 3 spare families to build. I'm so used to other city planning games like Anno where you can place down a building and then pause construction. With Manor Lords, that strategy doesn't work. So now, I only build when I'm absolutely ready to and only do 1 or 2 buildings or upgrades at a time. Then I wait for those to finish and start on something new. If I want to scope out where I'd like to plan a building next, I just lay down a road or 2, as they're free and don't need any free builders. I've also found that roads help me plot out fields better too and love your idea of creating smaller fields on what would normally be a larger plot :)

@ewenchan12397 ай бұрын
I have noticed though, in the video -- it recommend that you put the marketplace close to the granary and/or storehouse, which may be away from the houses. I don't know how often the houses gets stocked, but I get the impression that as of the current early release, the distance from the market, to the houses, does have a slight impact on the houses getting what they need (or they take longer to get what they need). That's just my subjective "feel" at the moment as I created a new save game late last night, testing out some of these tips/ideas. I think that my favourite tip so far, honestly, is to create a series of small farm plots rather than one really big one. I find that early on in the game, I am selling planks to raise money before I can buy the leather trade route, which can raise even more money.
@Strat-Guides7 ай бұрын
So you're not entirely off with your intuition - they send goods via instantaneous-teleportation to the closest house to the individual stall first, then the second closest house and so on until all goods are reserved or all houses are covered. So in general, if you're not able to cover all houses with 100% supply, then the ones closest to the stalls will get first dibs on supply which is why you generally want the higher tier burgage plots closer. However, it's usually a better practice to maintain 100% market coverage so that everyone in the region can have full supply and upgrade to tier 3 plots if you wish.
@ewenchan12397 ай бұрын
@@Strat-Guides Yeah -- so in regards to that (I'm still learning the mechanics of the game) -- it will say that I don't have 100% coverage of the supplies. But when I check either the granary or the storehouse (or the hunting camp or forager (I forget the exact name of that building, but it's the one where they go and get berries)), they have supplies there. So I can't tell if there's a bottleneck with the granary not having enough workers there to be moving the stuff around so that it can get to the marketplace or if there's another issue altogether. (I am still relatively early in my new village, so I don't have enough families to distribute around to the various buildings, and not enough gold to buy more oxes, even though I have multiple hitching posts that have been upgraded to a small stable already.) So, I have multiple constraints working against me at the moment. It's still too early for me to even upgrade to a level 2 plot, because I have found that once you upgrade to tier 2, the requirements increase, and as it stands, I don't have enough families to be able to support the production to satisfy the level 2 requirements at the moment. If I upgrade too early, then my approval rating will drop, which means that my rate of population growth will slow. (These are some other observations that I've made about the game, that can probably be compiled into a part 2 of "10 more mistakes that beginners shouldn't make in Manor Lords".)

In general, I think the single family with small extension is the best. There are some instances where by reducing the amount of houses by one, you'll end up getting multiple to turn into duplexes and get an extra family, but then you lose one extension because the duplex shares the extension. I still like the single with extension

I tried setting up gardens in the back yards, chickens, pigs but it doesn't seem to provide enough food for them for whatever reason. Can you also explain a little bit the pros and cons of housing plots where you can have 2 families on a single plot vs just the 1 I know for artisans it has to be a single house with a backyard but is there a benefit to having 2 other than more population? do they work the backyards more efficiently when doing larger vegetable gardens?

Hey man first time watching your channel and I loved it, I just picked this up 2 days ago and like you said it's a lot to take in lol, you really helped with the stalls and supplies issues I was having, it was exactly as you said, I had my warehouse to far away and I only had one at the time so I built a few more in better spots put a stop on some goods and dude like that you saved my town! I'm at a pop of 500+ and it's pretty sweet looking so far so you saved me some serious time that I would have spent building another pretty failure lol. Thanks again hombre, subbed and liked 👍

In my playthrough i built 5 level 1 Burgage's (Resident homes) and at first opportunity i upgrade them to level two for the 'extra family' bonus, so 10 families in 5 houses. Obviously you'll have more marketplace stall requirements and higher church level and all of that. Less is More.

Storage buildings - Make certain they are connected to a road, it's easy to miss, and if it isn't connected they will not use wheelbarrows and only carry 1 thing at a time.

Tha k you so much for metioning at the end to not to get discuraged to turn bandits n shit on. Ppl need to hear that. Its not an easy mode, its just making the game more suitable to ppl who normally play city builders to still enjoy the game without removing a game breaking aspect, and still make the game enjoyable. Not to mention u can literally still start with no advesaries and only 1 initial bandit camp if you wanted to go for the achivement.

This got super complicated with all the numbers 😂 I like the end tho where you say build your town how you want. I want a real looking village not a industrial zone

Insert Steve Carell THANK YOU!! meme here. While doing my IT training, decades ago, I learned a maxim: *We are drowning in information, and thursting for knowledge* . I feel like I've found an oasis in the desert of Manor Lords videos. I have gotten more useful information in these fifteen minutes, than over fifteen or so hours of other videos I've watched. Have I said thank you already? THANK YOU!!

I'm glad this was helpful! I spent around 30 hours to produce this video between editing, testing and recording. Most channel make surface level guides that don't explain much beyond the tutorial pop ups. I've got a BIG guide where I cover everything I know about the game in the same details as this - hopefully I'll have time to get it done before release! Thanks for watching :)

@@Strat-Guides I am truly very grateful for your efforts. I feel now that I have more of an understanding of what is important and what to watch for after so many hours of viewing other videos. I am looking very much forward to seeing your comprehensive all-inclusive video. I pray you do not burn yourself out with all your efforts; I am enjoying finally learning how to play the game. I honestly think Hooded Horse ought to be paying your for all you put in, because it's going to make the game so much more accessible to the players. Kudos to you my friend. You really do make the world a little bit better. Now I just have to hold out until Friday without blowing a fuse :D

Scaling the number of people working and scaling up the production of food in parallel is not that easy in the game. A single berry deposit goes a long way, but once you build a farm and have families working there, you invest alot of people into this one source of food. Play the game the way you like. I love the game for the ability to build visually pleasing towns that remind me of Kingdom Come Deliverence. I still try to make them work, so I found your video very helpful!

Hey man, just a heads up. Houses do send out people to pick up firewood from the market. I've seen food teleport magically, but firewood seems to be collected manually. Just set up a new town, build the burgages, marketplace and storehouse, and watch it run for a few months. You'll see.
@Strat-Guides7 ай бұрын
I've been running tests on the market stalls for well over 15 hours actually - they don't send people to the stalls to collect firewood - the only caveat the person at the house going to get firewood is actually the stall worker and he's getting firewood to move to the stall. I'm 100% confident in this - I just released a video today explaining how market stalls work and how to keep 100% coverage in your towns :D

You probably shouldn't cram houses together in small plots. Allow larger plots with a house or two less and upgrade the house to have a 2nd living area. This allows for doubling residents and when u lvl up the houses it increases both houses on one plot to accommodate double the living areas with wider back yards. It also increases production of artisan goods because the whole housing plot will contribute to manufacturing. It's also cheaper to upgrade to lvl three since you are essentially lvling up one plot with the same amount of population as two plots.
@kyler81457 ай бұрын
Don't move the building when it comes to logging camps or firemaking. Use the advanced option to limit work area to a new area. Then use forresters hut to regrow in the same area.
@Strat-Guides7 ай бұрын
Agreed - once you have the manpower to spare for a forester hut it's much better. In the early game though, I do recommend moving it or building a new one.

Ive had the game for about 3 days now and I already have over 15 hours. There is stuff I wouldn’t have known about for a long time if i didn’t watch a video. If you haven’t already, could you make a video on how you usually layout your cities and why you place certain buildings in certain places. Your video was very helpful. It answered a lot of questions ive had. I still have more questions though hahaha iI have so much to learn.
@Vault977 ай бұрын
Smell pollution is listed to get added in if it does it’ll matter a lot where you put some buildings, the Tannery which are famously known for smelling really bad will have to be put far from residential areas, charcoal burners will also have to be placed pretty far away. Bloomery and clay furnace may give off some sort of smell pollution. Fields, farms and stables might also have an effect. Production building placement will have to be thought out abit more when that happens.
@Strat-Guides7 ай бұрын
Yeah that's a great point! It might make sense to put it on the edge of town with it's own storehouse

Tip 10 is good because many people want to play these types of games exactly how they see on youtube and then they get bored quickly because its not how they want to play. The benefit of the plot system used in this game is that I can make a grid or I can make it pretty/natural or a combination as its very free flowing it isnt tied to a grid like anno is or other games of this style. Mayve my early first 20 families get bigger plots vecause theyre early settlers but i start cramming people in with some not even having a work building? Maybe my first plot 10 or 20 houses are in a 5 long plot in 4 rows but after that i start mixing it up with groups of 3 in random places. Who cares, the game is a city builder build how you want! If you want to min/max go for it! Maybe you want to make 1 town min/max and your villages free flowing? Do it! The gane isnt really hard its more about time

Exactly! Not everyone wants the same thing out of the game and I'm really happy the devs made it so you can play it however you please :)

I appreciate that! I'm sure a bunch of other channels will rip off the points I made here (I don't think anyone spent 30+ hours running test cities and experiments to find all this info out) or be lazy and make a tips video for all the most obvious stuff lol

re "the game crams in as many houses as possible", that's just a default, you can change it with the + and - buttons to suit.
@Strat-Guides7 ай бұрын
True, but if you want your buildings tightly packed, it's only possible by placing multiple houses down at once since the connecting points that your cursor snaps to is bigger than the house size when you place 3+. Sorry, I should have been more clear when I made that comment, I was trying to get them tightly packed to get more houses for the same space used.
