All I know is that the earthquake was extremely localized and discriminatory. No one can understand how the DR shares an island with Haiti and areas of Haiti that's close to the DR were hit but the DR remained untouched.

I went to Haiti in 2011 and yes it's been hit very bad. What you need to understand is Port-Au-Prince is the country's capital and everything is centralized in the nation's capital. Wich lead to a national disaster. Therefore the rest of the country wasn't touched physically. The DR is at the east of the Island and far enough from Haiti's capital. Hope it helped you understand even 14 years later lol

@@gillianreyes-allen9524 We are, others just don't know because we've been speaking about this for a while but in our Haitian Creole language since we're not an English speaking country. Therefore, if true journalists like "the Real News Network" don't report on it, English speakers won't know about it. Haitians have known about their resources for a great while. Even our forefathers informed us that we are sitting on a land full of wealth and have written in our 1805 constitution that foreigners are not allowed to own land because they know that foreigners will start buying our land and they once again will become masters and make us (blacks) their slaves. The U.S. governments have gone away with our original constitution and have given us a new constitution all in an attempt for them to try to own land. Some have buy lands in Haiti only to dig it to get what is under the soil and gone and leave the place with a big hole. During the U.N. occupation of Haiti for more than 10 years, there were places that Haitians were forbidden to go in their own island because they were pillaging the place. the U.S. government often refers to Haiti as their backyard or their oil reserves as a way of warning other countries to stand clear, they're claiming this. I often say the American people are great people but their government are the devils in flesh. In the 1950s, we had a president named Dumarsais Estime who hired an American firm to come help them to extract the oil to sell to develop the island and in return that firm will get paid handsomely. the U.S. government put a stop to it. Then, they start the propaganda where every time they say the word Haiti it is follows by "the poorest country in the western hemisphere" and it has worked as a charm with the American people to the point that it is useless to inform them that the Americans, Canadians and the French are meddling in Haiti's affairs and are making sure that they suppress us to keep us poor is because they want our land so they can better exploit our natural resources while Haitians don't even get a dime from it, their only retort is "oh please, you don't have anything that can be of interest to the U.S. then why are you a poor country?" just lazy minds repeating what the media fed them. I only feel compel to shed some light in this here in the comment section because I know that most people who ended up here are here because they are searching and have an open mind. A lot of Haitians have already died (murdered) for even talking about all the natural resources that Haiti unfortunately we are surrouded by a very powerful vulture. President Jovenel Moise, who was assassinated recently was opening a school where Haitians will be learning how to extract these natural resources. Well, we all saw how that went and that school is put to a halt since his assassination.

Karma is a terrible thing, Haiti may have had some bad times with the leaders of the past, but I tell you one thing, I foresee that Haiti will become a viable force in the Caribbean and we will see the Dominicans migrating to Haiti to find jobs, Haiti already has a lot of Dominicans coming in already to find jobs, so lets not be hateful, because global warmin is going to change a lot in the future. Keep in mind DR is mostly flat, when the water starts rising we will have to find a common ground, Haiti has the mountains. take time to look at the map of the world after the ice cap melts, Punta Cana and the whole east coast of DR including Santo Domingo will be under water. Its best to make peace at this point, we share an island and we may be forced to put our heads together. Keep in mind nothing on this planet stays the same. With all my love I wish you the best!

*WEB / The news might be surprising for some people but not for Haitians. Haiti’s Natural resources total market value been recently estimated at 100 Trillion Dollars. This represent an average of 10 million dollars for every Haitian living of earth. These abundant natural resources could be essentially used to rebuild Haiti and give the nation a remarkable future. In the French newspaper **_Le Post,_** scientists Daniel and Ginette Mathurin say that Haiti’s oil reserves are larger than those of Venezuela. In fact, Daniel Mathurin says that Haiti’s oil reserves are so much larger that they are not even worth comparing. On March 27, 2004 Dr. Georges Michel detailed the history of oil discoveries in Haiti and explained why they have not been exploited yet. According to Michel, the big oil companies know about the massive reserves of oil in Haiti but in the 50s and 60s there was almost too much oil to go around so they decided that those reserves were not needed at the time and that they would be kept in reserve until later….[The attitude of these big multinational oil companies was] “We shall keep the Haitian deposits and other such layers of deposits in reserve for the 21st century when the Middle Eastern jackpot is depleted.”*

I just learned today in my engineering class that Hemp-Lime is a great product for construction. It is a much better insulator, greatly regulates humidity, and is a cheaper and cleaner product that actively takes part in carbon sequestration as oppose to concrete, which requires decarbonization and major CO2 release in order to fire the cement ingredient. However, concrete is better at sustaining compression loads. But I think nearly all homes in the country should be built with Hemp-Lime.

This explanation for the location of oil is grossly simplified; the location of plate boundaries has little to do with it; there are far more important factors, such as the depth history of possible oil-bearing sedimentary rocks, rock porosity, & the presence of a "capping" rock layer. A good explanation of the basic factors of oil bearing rocks & their distribution across the globe can be found in Kenneth Deffeyes' book 'Hubbert's Peak.' Deffeyes was literally born in an Oklahoma oil field.

Listen to the speaker in the video carefully. He answers the question very cleary. Most Haitians with half a brain know Haiti has oil, gold, uranium and other minerals. Years ago it used to be bauxite (aluminum). Reynolds aluminum was in Haiti until 1982. The answer is who is controlling Haiti. If whoever is controlling Haiti has Haiti's best interest than Haiti will begin to develop say within 5 years. If not than Haiti will not progress. It remains to be seen.

@charlessmyth especially when those resources are used to produce JUNK that breaks or is 'obsolete' within a short time. also the loss of the 'environment' which is destroyed in the process of extracting those resources is the real tragedy here... as the poor in West Africa have already discovered, when the dumping of oil industry 'waste' into the environment leads to illness & death.

It certainly is an interesting point of view, but it requires more investigation and concrete evidence. 1 Billion barrels of oil will not do much when we are talking about the global picture. Even if there was oil there, it would take years for it to come online. It is more likely that the US is taking advantage of the situation based on the recent moves regarding Russia and the joint Naval exercises they held with Cuba & Venezuela. A Russian counter move due to the US supporting Georgia.

Maybe they should do a special on the topic so that they can clearly make their stance on how serious a matter of journalism that subject can be. This is simply appealing to internet audiences by not telling them what they don't want to hear; in the same manner as mainstream news but simply with a different demographic. I just hope.

We are together on the island, what's wrong with helping each other. Haiti is moving up and I can see it coming like the countries of Europe where we will all have to deal with the fact that opportunities are all over and we have to survive. You can tell them until you're blue in the face that there is no such thing as "aid" these are loans with a hefty interest that they imposed on other countries via the International Mother f'ers (IMF, World bank). They don't want to hear it, they'll swear up and down that the same U.S. government who is neglecting their plights is helping Haitians.

You think we need to replace all the WASTEFUL & ridiculous practices of the past 100 years.. eg gas guzzlers of 5 litres when an electric car (or GOOD public trasnsport) running on 'renewable' energy will do fine. Likewise we can cut domestic energy needs dramatically just by insulating, producing renewable energy closer to users & low-energy goods
