In August 2021 when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, Pakistan was more than elated. The Pakistani security establishment thought it had gained strategic depth in the neighbouring country and had ousted India from there.
The Pakistani joy didn’t last long. If the Pakistanis thought the Afghan Taliban would play second fiddle, they were stunned to the core. The TTP that shares a deep ideological bond with the Afghan Taliban has unleashed a wave of terror attacks on Pakistani soil and refuses to be cowed.
