This is a presentation made by the noted Malayalam authour Ravichandran C (en.wikipedia.o...) at Grameena Vayanashala hall Kanayannur Chottanikkara, Ernakulam, Kerala on 04/06/2017.
This is the reloaded version of the previous presentation with the same title by him at Bangalore on 19.3.17. Through this presentation Ravichandran C attempts to explain how Kerala society negated the positive values and functional criteria science stands for and embraced illusory equations of pseudo science, quackery, religious fanaticism. Science is the best way to do any thing in this world, whether it is art, sex or war. It is not a thing that produced in laboratories. It is a way of thinking and processing data based on evidence and logic. Scientific temper and scientific knowledge are two different thing. Any one can improve scientific knowledge by collecting more facts and figures. One needs not be a scientist to be scientific and being a scientist does not guarantees that one is scientific, says Ravichandran.

Dear Essence Global, I am a regular viewer and I can not understate the important role you are playing to enlighten the masses through this work. It is commendable. As much as I appreciate and applaud your efforts to bring about the scientific temperament in our superstitious population, being a proponent of science, I must mention that the facts about Endosulphan are not correctly presented here. In fact, according to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants - there is a global ban in place for Endosulphan due to its negative effects on flora and fauna in the ecosystem. More importantly, I would appreciate if you are able to ensure that such sweeping statements are not made with regard to organo-pollutants (although we are also organo chemicals) , as it may set a precedent for govts and companies (such as Monsanto, dow, dupont) to play down the effects of these pollutants. What is alarming is that irrespective of such bans on several organo pollutants including pesticides and herbicides in the West (US /EU) countries like India are still using them in agriculture due to poor regulation. Recent victory by Monsanto to patent GM cotton, will now mean that it will be widely used on our land alongside the herbicide round-up or similar - which can really kill a lot of bio-diversity. In this regard, I as a rationalist will always support biologically derived fertilisers and pest control ( not using the word "organic" farming to be semantically safe)

The videograph is commendable effort to guide people 'Whose Belief Systems MIght Lead Them To Danger'. It could have been apt, in this context, right at the beginning, if the speaker used 'Material Science' (Bhauthika shaastram) instead of 'Science' (Shaastram). The very equation of 'Shaastram' = 'Science' itself is an incomplete one in the Indian culture, which the speaker himself has said. Permit me to be honest : The subject is Clean. The speaker needs to improve his ''material-scientific know-how' to underline the scientific temperament in his deliberations, as evident from the examples he quotes. Just 2 of the eg.--Relating to Oxygen , Hydrogen & Water as well as Science-Life & Death. Why does the government which propagates scientific temperament insist on 'Death Certificate' for procedures after a person dies? (If Death = Maranam)! Science sayas - Thanatology is the scientific study of death and the practices associated with it, including the study of the needs of the terminally ill and their families.
