Just came across this performance, and all I can say is wow. To me this is the very best rendition I've ever heard of this symphony. Absolutely an outstanding performance. Stravinsky would have been very, very proud. Also, I'm sure God loved this performance. Let me tell you, it doesn't get any better than this. Thank you so much for uploading this magnificent concert.

I fell in love with this wonderful music when I was 15 and now I'm 74. The music is just as potent and wonderful today as it was in 1965. Thank you ever so much sharing this with all of us. Kudos to the orchestra, choir and conductor!

Peter Dijkstra is the best chorus conductor of our time I would say. I work as a professional singer since the 80s.

In this performance of Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Netherlands Radio Choir, we hear an orchestra's extraordinary sound, augmented by two pianos, three bassoons, and five oboes, plus a chorus. For me, this music is both austere and profoundly moving. Hats off to these musician's magnificent performance!

A recording of this was one of my first ever purchases. I regard Stravinsky as one of the three greatest Russian composers, with Prokofiev and Stravinsky. When I hear a superb version of the Symphony of Psalms, I feel he IS the Greatest!

1. (Psalm 38, verses 13 and 14) 0:04 *Exaudi orationem meam, Domine, et deprecationem meam. Auribus percipe lacrimas meas. Ne sileas, ne sileas. Quoniam advena ego sum apud te et peregrinus, sicut omnes patres mei. Remitte mihi, prius quam abeam et amplius non ero.* Hear my prayer, O Lord, and with Thine ears consider my calling: hold not Thy peace at my tears. For I am a stranger with Thee: and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. O spare me a little that I may recover my strength: before I go hence and be no more seen. 2. (Psalm 39, verses 2, 3 and 4) 3:17 *Expectans expectavi Dominum, et intendit mihi. Et exaudivit preces meas; et exudit me da lacu miseriae, et de lato faecis. Et statuit super petram pedes meos: et direxis gressus meos. Et immisit in os meum canticum novrum, carmen Deo nostro. Videbunt multi, videbunt et timabunt: et aperabunt in Domino.* I waited patiently for the Lord: and He inclined unto me, and heard my calling. He brought me also out of the horrible pit, out of the mire and clay: and set my feet upon the rock, and ordered my goings. And He hath put a new song in my mouth: even a thanksgiving unto our God. Many shall see it and fear: and shall put their trust in the Lord. 3. (Psalm 150) 9:39 *Alleluia. Laudate Dominum in sanctis Ejus. Laudate Erum firmamentis virtutis Ejus. Laudate Dominum. Laudate Eum in virtutibus Ejus Laudate Eum secundum multitudinem magnitudinis Ejus. Laudate Eum in sono tubae. Laudate Eum. Alleluia. Laudate Dominum. Laudate Eum. Laudate Eum in timpano et choro, Laudate Eum in cordis et organo; Laudate Eum in cymbalis bene jubilantionibus. Laudate Eum, omnis spiritus laudate Dominum. Alleluia.* Alleluja. O praise God in His holiness: praise Him in the firmament of His power. Praise Him in His noble acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him in the sound of the trumpet: praise Him upon the lute and harp. Praise Him upon the strings and pipe. Praise Him upon the well-tuned cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Alleluja.

Echt erstklassig!

Wow! The concert choir I was in during high school performed the first movement. This piece is TOUGH to execute. It's really sad to see most people will listen to, fall in love with, and defend till the end the trash songs of today, versus listen to good music.

I am currently rehearsing this music, I’ve got to know it intimately so I speak with some insight when I say that I find it jarringly unpleasant and horrendously painful to perform. I’m surrounded by fellow musicians who keep telling me how wonderful it is. I can only deduce that they want to appear musically intellectual. In much the same way that The Kings New Clothes were appreciated by the crowds. I’m standing my ground, it feels like immersing your hand in a bucket of broken glass.

I'm sorry that you have to rehearse and play music that is not your cup of tea. Musical taste is a strange thing. It seems so 'universal' to each of us, yet it is utterly personal. Please don't believe the deduction you made, and do believe that there are people who really appreciate this music, and not to appear musically intellectual. I'm one of them.

@chasfleming the first time I performed this in college I felt the same way. It grew on me over time. Every few years I rediscover it, and parts of it give me goosebumps. It really is quite brilliant. Don’t forget that the first time Stravinsky performed The Rites of Spring it caused a riot! Stravinsky’s dissonance always resolves at some point.

Each movement seems oddly disconnected from the others and the work loses shape as a result. It is exact enough but 'flat footed'.
