If anyone wondering what the sign at 6:19 says: Straw hats are a special product of Kasukabe City. Kasukabe City, located in the Furutone River basin, has fertile land and has long been a production area for rice and wheat. As a side business, farmers used the stalks of barley (mainly barley) to make 'Mugiwara Sanada' (Sanada knitting) and exported it overseas. Kasukabe started making hats using this straw Sanada. It is said to have been introduced around the 10th year of the Meiji era. From the Meiji era to the present, Kasukabe has produced various hats that meet the needs of the times, including straw hats for work and leisure. Traditional straw hat-making techniques have been inherited by seven manufacturers in Kasukabe City.

I made rope baskets in the past. The technique is the same. The skill comes from knowing how to hold the hat to shape it. My baskets were good, not great but I saw others who did a much better job than I did. In short, it takes practice and patience but it isn’t that difficult.

Awesome! Nice job. THANK you for sharing the process. Now, I have a request for folks posting these videos on KZbin or any platform- 1. How are the workers treated? Truly? Fair trade? Liveable wages? 2. How are the materials sourced? Want to see from raw materials entire process to end product including the eco system no editing greenscreen AI bullshit...all transparent verifiable ethically sourced fair trade for real not bullshit. Not implying this video is that really appreciate knowledge, skilled workers just like this artist featured. Like to ensure that you have clean water, air and soil on a planet we share temporarily that those skills are honored appropriately as this current marketplace mentality has trashed this entire planet none of us own. Love to see that, verifiable no slavery at all or exploitation. Accomplish that help Accomplish that it's the Union I'd love to see this species this society Accomplish. The modern American version of prosperity is just the opposite it's poverty based on all this pollution all countries all homospains culpable not one that's innocent on that. Perk we all definitely are united like it or not in a nuclear holocaust camp golag GLOBALLY ESPECIALLY ONLINE and Offline no one said world peace would include this species....all borrowers of a planet we don't own down to it's resources. Isn't it weird how we kill each other and abuse over made up fictional numbers on a screen or a piece of paper with images on it? How dumb. Proof is all around what that resulted in polluted everywhere trashed planet. Then again been seeking to achieve this for awhile only received hate back terrorism...sad. Anyhow, not one person has yet shown that type of video anywhere. One spot appropriately Accomplishing that long-term without exploitation continuing especially digital slavery while gaslighting others on camera for profit...really isn't entertaining once you compile the facts and evidence in one spot how foolish this species how we treat each other here regardless of ethnicity or gender or geographical locations. Do like straw hats made well lasting prefer the workers to environment treated respectfully too not with empty words being filmed for clicks alone. Hopefully someone can figure out how to balance this mess of an unhealthy unsustainable marketplace currently.....or the alternative is blow everything up. Rather pointless.
