Hi Parnell, Strawberries with a bit of lemon, yummy! This, too, looks so very, very good. Definitely will add this recipe to my cookbook box. Will be making the strawberry n blueberry desserts this weekend along with the orange creamsicle. I’m looking forward to making all three and see what the family thinks…I think they will be a hit. I think you could. I've never used pineapple extract, but pineapple and strawberry definitely go together very well--I did a strawberry pineapple dump cake recently. If you want to replace the lemon juice with pineapple juice, go ahead! 🍓🍍

I think you probably could. Honestly, I would use all of the pie filling, but not as much of the cake mix or butter because I don't think you'd want that layer to be too thick, otherwise the butter might not soak all the way down into the cake mix. I use about 75% of the cake mix and butter in the 8x11 version.

Hi, Latish! I think that strawberry cake mix could definitely be good...my own concern is that it might be too sweet. I've never used strawberry cake mix, in all honesty, so I don't know how it compares to white or yellow mix. In short, my gut tells me it would be good, but if you know the cake mix is a bit on the sweet side, I would stick to white or yellow. Let me know what you decide to do. I'm sure it will be delicious! 🍓👨‍🍳

Hi, Mary! I've never used a low carb cake mix, but I think it would work. Make sure you look at how many ounces it is. My box of cake mix was 15.25 oz. Sometimes specialized mixes are in smaller boxes, so like I said, make sure the box is the right size...but other than that, it should be perfectly fine. Let me know how your dump cake turns out!🍓👍

what if you made the cake mix the way you would for a cake and then pour over =??????????????

You could do that, but it was totally change the texture. You would end up with a fluffy cake layer on top--which wouldn't necessarily be bad--but it wouldn't have the crunchy, crumbly texture that most people like about dump cakes. I hope that helps! 👨‍🍳

Although you could definitely add lemon extract for some lemon flavor, the real reason behind adding the lemon juice is that a bit of acidity will help bring out the strawberry flavor. Lemon zest or extract would probably help do that a little bit, but my gut tells me that lemon juice would be better. 🍋
