I am all about the frozen strawberries in desserts. My favorite strawberry cake uses frozen strawberries. They are cheaper, always available and work great. I like the sugar you added to the top of the crust! Haha I learned the hard way (multiple times) about not putting a pie on a sheet and it getting all over the bottom of my oven!😂 The color was very vibrant for sure, very pretty! Now I want pie!🍓🥧
@ParnellTheChef4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Alicia! Frozen strawberries are great because you can make pies and cakes (my strawberry layer cake uses froze berries, too) at any time of the year. They are also cheaper, and since they are flash frozen, they are, in my opinion, often better tasting, ironically. The sugar added to the top gives a nice bit of sweetness and crunch. Its a small detail, but definitely worth it. Haha we learned the hard way. This photo / video didn't do the color justice: it was truly spellbinding. Thanks for watching as always, Alicia!🍓🥧

Thanks, Andrea! This strawberry pie with frozen strawberries was definitely exceptional. Like you said, very few recipes are double crust pies, so I am really, really pleased with how this turned out: just like an apple or peach pie, but with strawberries--and not runny at all! You couldn't even taste the cornstarch at all--it was just really great all around. If you want to try one of my dessert recipes, this should be it: simply amazing. The photo didn't do the color justice: it was a beautiful red as well. Thanks for watching and your kind words as always, Andrea!🍓👍😀

It all came together in the perfect combo of taste, texture, and look. Thanks for watching!🍓

The strawberry pie looked heavenly! What a great change from typical fresh strawberry pies I'm use to. What do you think about the large granules of sugar for the top if the pie? Hats off to the color andv texture. Just perfect!
@ParnellTheChef4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words, Jeffrey! This pie tasted even better than it looked, if you can believe that, haha! Using frozen berries makes this super quick and easy. The sugar on top of the pie is one of my pie-making secrets, actually, because it adds some extra sweetness and especially crunch. It starts to caramelize a bit, I think, so it doesn't make the pie to sweet. And yes, the color was amazing, as was the combination of textures. Simply the best! Once again, thanks for watching, Jeffrey👨🍳🍓🥧

@ParnellTheChef4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Honestly, I would 3 cups of sliced strawberries. I used 24 ounces, so since there are 8 ounces in a cup, that would be 3 cups. It is amazing how much strawberries and other fruits cook down in pies, so you will need more fruit than you think. Thanks for the question--I am sure your pie will turn out great!👨🍳🍓🥧
@charlesbrazel60112 жыл бұрын
Can I use fresh strawberries in this recipe?
@ParnellTheChef2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Charles! You definitely can. However, fresh strawberries probably won't release as much liquid while baking, so you'll want to use less cornstarch. I have never made this recipe with fresh fruit, so I can't tell you exactly how much cornstarch you'll need. So, my suggestion would be to cut up the fresh fruit and then freeze it--maybe only for 2 or 3 hours. Once the fruit thaws, it should behave just like frozen fruit from the grocery store, so you won't have to worry about adjusting the cornstarch. Let me know how your pie turns out!👨🍳🍓🥧

If you are using 8 tablespoons of cornstarch to thicken this you are not cooking the pie to the right temperature and long enough. No more than 3 tablespoons of cornstarch should be enough to thicken at least 2 cups of liquid. You can tell from the crust profile you showed that the crust is not completely cooked and has an all dente look, and definitely does not look browned at all, which means the filling won't be either. If you cook it long enough it will thicken properly with the right amount of cornstarch. Also tips for spices and flavoring: -Cardamom (ground) 1/4 tsp -3 tblsp butter
@Mavourneen-MOE4 ай бұрын
So Mr/Mrs. Denounce, have you tried Chef Parnell’s strawberry pie? I recently had a major operation, and it’s really hot [three digits] were I live. My children are coming, and I NEEDED something easy and not so labor intensive. I used store bought pie crust for the first time, and dotted it with butter on the inside. I followed the directions adding more frozen strawberries only for a 12 inch pie plate. I added the lemon juice, the 8 tbsp. corn starch. a bit of cinnamon, lemon juice, and a few dots of butter. Sprinkled the pie crust with sugar. Baked 375 [my oven runs a tad low]. for one hour. When I say perfect it could sit in a window case of an expensive bakery! We had no ice cream, but the pie is gone! Wish I made two! So there chef-boy-R-dee, go cook your strawberries - they won’t come out gorgeous deep red and taste as fresh as Chef Parnell’s. Say, maybe you should use some jello for the color and artificial color enhancement!

dude. 1: it's a desert pie. He can add as much sugar as he wants. 2: that's a normal crust not a laminated puff pastry style crust. It looks like that even when fully crisp. (I literally just made a pot pie that looked identical despite being thoroughly crispy) 3: Flavor is infinitely more important than looks.
