I have a Classic Accessories Cumberland float tube. It's been good to me for the last few years!

When you see Troutflies on the lake, you definitely want to anker up so you can cast into the same water from the opposite side. 🤣🤣

lol. Not this day...

Nice. We had three days of non-stop action up there but after 10AM, the bite really dies.

Things felt a little off the day I went, but I mighta just not been really on them like everyone seemed to be. Gotta go back and get some redemption.

Good times Bob! I was just there fishing from the shore and didn't have any followers (there later in the day around 1pm) so I went somewhere else. Looks like I need to get out there with my float tube sometime again.

Is the fishing better than normal right at ice off or are people just excited to get back on the water?
@TroutFlies7 ай бұрын
It can be lights out right at ice off as the first 50 feet of open water opens up on the shore. But I prefer fishing stillwaters when there are a lot of hatches and potential for dries going on.
@curtiswiser32577 ай бұрын
Nice video! do you usually use a full sinking line or just a sinking tip?
@TroutFlies7 ай бұрын
I usually use full sinking lines for stillwater, with the exception being when I'm using midge tip lines.

I don't know man I heard this place has big fish but with how many little ones you're catching that's not a good sign of a good quality lunker fishery man the management of this lake needs to change

I honestly think a month after the ice is off of any lake is the best fishing. Ice off fishing is pretty overrated IMO.
@TroutFlies7 ай бұрын
I think if you get it just right it can be pretty outstanding. But I do prefer once the water gets into the 50s and the fish are super active, eat on top, and are really on the hatches. That's super fun.

We all have opinions as fly fisherman, I believe those opinions are formed according to our fishing experiences. I am guessing that if you believe fishing is consistently better a month after ice off, then your experience has likely been that it’s the best a month after ice off! That’s fair and may indicate that you have been fishing differently than Bob and the majority of Fly fishers who consistently have amazing fishing at “Ice-Off”. This is, of course based on our experience catching lots of fish(like hits on at least every other cast) by casting out to the edge of the ice and either stripping leeches or buggers or fishing under an indicator. I suppose everyone’s definition of “Ice-Off” could be slightly different too. One thing is for sure, there is a lot of hype around Fishing at ice off because it’s usually amazing and can be epic! It may also be true that the rest of us need to learn from people like yourself how you’re catching lots of fish one month after ice off. In my opinion, the Fishing is the very best at ice off and continues to slow as we get into the later spring and into summer. Of course, there are Hatch periods that can be incredible during the warmer months and there can be fall bites as the water cools that can be epic as well. My point was only to confirm that “Ice off” is consistently some of the very best Stillwater fishing year in year out.
