I appreciate your honest reaction. I like that you don't seem to ham it up just for views so your feedback seems very authentic. Some people will over react because they don''t want to upset fans of the music but I like when you can admit if a song wasn't your favorite and if there are parts you didn't care for, because when you do really like something it makes it that much more special. And even if you don't love it you show a lot of respect and appreciation for the talent and artistry of it. Their music can def seem a little all over the place and that is sort of known as their style but they also have a lot of versatility. If you listen to full albums you will hear a handful of this "noisy eclectic" music but also hear hip hop, ballads, pop or even some silly stupid songs. I always used to think of Kpop as bubble gum cutesy pop but Stray Kids def showed me how different and versatile it can be :)

Stray Kids are actually considered to be the pioneers of their own genre, 'Mala Taste’. Mala refers to the flavors of Szechuan cooking in Chinese, meaning 'spicy and numbing'. Stray Kids were actually disliked for their sound variety for a while. They have a lot of experimental beats and harder music styles, which wasn't really popular in Korea until the global scene got ahold of it. Since you like the rougher sounds, I'd recommend Megaverse, Venom, and Topline. Hope you guys enjoy your SKZ journey! Stray Kids everywhere, all around the world❤

Tang in Korean means bouling water, soup, flavor, etc. They add this "Tang" to the dishThis song has double meaning, about cuisine, menu with different dishes, where everyone will find their favorite taste, which means their discography with songs in different genres and sound, where everyone can find something they like.

I respect that you guys don't think the breakdowns/pre-choruses were necessary, but if you understand K-pop and the thought process behind 3RACHA's production, you'd understand why it absolutely is. K-pop's signature is the mix of rap, vocals, and dance, the blend of which is up to each group. SKZ tends to go heavier on the rap and dance, which leads to people discounting their vocals/singing ability. But in almost every song, they try to include a section for their vocalists to shine. As this song was meant to show off all of their flavours, they very deliberately included those pre-choruses as a "sweet" element in the mix, to showcase their vocal ability and represent their sweet side as opposed the other tangy, spicy and savoury flavours they sprinkled through the track. As others have said, it's the signature SKZ mix. They don't do it every single time, but 8 or 9 times out of 10, they'll try to include all of those elements in some way. And tbh, God's Menu without that pre-chorus would be a little too standard trap. The break in momentum might be frustrating, but the additional flavour was absolutely necessary to highlight the uniqueness of the mix.
@Kat123-v9n14 күн бұрын
All im going to say is that while this "noise music" is Stray Kids signature style, this is not all they do. They have so many genres in their discography. They have very cute and funny song, emotional ballads, hip hop and rap. They encorporate alot in their music.

The song's "pop singing" sections are part of the story and journey, just like the one gentleman said. It is to calm you down, lure you into thinking things have calmed down when they suddenly hit you with the "du du du du" section again. It is to show you the contrast of all the things they can do. From the loud and tough to the softer and flowy. It is part of Stray Kids' signature sound. You'll find that they do this slowed-down bridge syle to highlight that in other songs, too.

This is what your brain does when you first start listening to Stray Kids: Oh, ok... wait, WHAT? Did they just... WHAT! Yo, that's kinda... WHAT!!! Wait, it's over??? Noooo, gimme more! 😂 They have a way of mixing genres and sounds that shouldn't make sense and they do it seamlessly. They switch up on you and before you can process it, they switch again. That is their unique sound. The best songs that demonstrate this are S-Class and Thunderous. S-Class has like 10 unique flows in one song. Thunderous is a clapback at their haters who complain they are just loud and noisy. So they took some traditional Korean instruments and the 808s, sprinkled in some car horn, thunder, and onomatopoeia and literally created a song out of noise, and it's brilliant.

I love that you guys are so honest in your reactions to Stray Kids music! These boys work hard to create what they want to make musically and don’t fit into the “norm” of music genres-never have-and it’s great to see you guys discuss the music itself and how the vocals are laid in within the track. If you want to see how they were before they even debuted as a group check out their music video Hellavator. Even back then they knew how to create music and work the vocals within it.🙃

I used to love Linkin Park because they were able to switch from rap (Mike) to hard core rock to beautiful melody (Chester) in one song. Stray Kids have added more layers and I love it. They can do it all as they said in God’s Menu as they have proven time again…and they’re so young to make music like this. Nobody can copy them because it’s their unique style and I’m here for it. If you don’t like multi genres, they have all rap songs, all pop or all ballads but for me, multi genres is pleasing to my ears as well as their other simpler songs.

Kpop is on another level performance wise. I was mostly from a rock/metal background genre wise and also had found kpop too poppy when I'd briefly looked at it. Then I came across a Stray Kids song and was hooked. They introduced me to kpop and honestly I rarely listen to anything else now. It has such a wide variety within it you just have to find your groups. Kpop as an industry though stands out in performance standard. Kpop companies typically audition people who get taken on as trainees. They even audition in foreign countries (how Bang Chan and Felix joined their company from Australia- Felix didn't even speak Korean when he joined). Trainees train with the company for several years. They study dance, singing, rap, languages. They learn how to be a celebrity, they get taught about the responsibilities of fame, they are held to incredibly high behaviour standards (smoking can be enough to risk your place). It's incredibly intense and they have to be incredibly committed. It's not super healthy but as trainees Stray Kids would practice for like 10 hours through the night then half of them would still go to school the next morning. Kpop is a performance genre, the groups are as much dance teams as musicians. Artists typically have a specialism (dance/vocal/rap) but Stray Kids are an outlier in they are all highly skilled in all areas so they no longer use position labels really. Their concerts will be several hours long with no support acts. The staging, music videos, styling, and concepts are very detailed. Most groups will also create their own variety shows where they play games and do challenges so you get to know them as people, they're entertainers as well. It's such a vibrant genre and whether a group has your flavour of music or not you can guarantee all the artists will be highly accomplished in what they do. I've never come across a bunch of artists who have the attitude of constant learning like in kpop. I think Felix is now studying his fourth and fifth languages (he is a native English speaker and is now fluent in Korean, conversational in Japanese, and studying Chinese and French). Several Stray Kids members still take regular vocal and dance lessons to develop and expand their skills. It's such an interesting world of art and I hope you keep exploring it to see what it has to offer. It's cool that you're open to trying something new.

Genre blending is a standard in a lot of KPOP,as well as switch back & forth between languages (Korean,Japanses,English, etc...) The flows and switch ups are continually going between pop & many other genres which is why its often said that KPOP isn't a genre but an INDUSTRY....the music encapsulates ALL genres. Also,part if the appeal is the way they include pop in almost every song in some way yet KEEP IT FEELING FRESH and still unique to their sound. Plus, their choreo is ALWAYS PHENOMENAL,on point,polished,and amazingly executed. It takes a few different videos to get a better feel & understanding for their style,because they incorporate so many if them,lol. EXTREMELY OVERJOYED you gave them another listen, you might enjoy Heyday,Charmer,Muddy Water or most of their 3RACHA tracks also,before making a final judgement on our boys, PLEASE watch these 2 live performances: MAMA 2020 Victory Song & Kingdom Legendary War I'll Be Your Man ....if you like those,let me know and we can go from there,lol. I turn 49 this month,I consider myself a Goth\Metalhead who loves ALL GOOD music,no matter the genre,and who discovered KPOP about 6 years ago and never in my life thought I'd end up a die hard KPOP junkie...and admittedly at first,I wasn't convinced. Then I watched Kingdom Legendary War and my ENTIRE mind frame was OPENED to some PHENOMENAL artist (including Stray Kids,ATEEZ,& Taemin & Blackpink) don't judge too quickly, watch a few more things and I think you'll be AMAZED!!thank you again!!!!!n🎶❤✌

K-pop is not a genre it’s an industry. If u don’t like the different breakdowns in this song, u may not like K-pop, lol. Stray Kids especially is known for basically putting 2 or 3 songs in one. As for what Siah said about K-pop being too fluffy, I thought that too at first. What I’d heard in the past was so sweet and soft, I thought I’d never like it. I mean, I grew up listening to NWA, Tupac, Biggie etc. so what could they offer me. But Stray Kids and a few other groups like ATEEZ and XG (even though they’re Japanese) really do it for me. They talk about reaching goals and working hard to achieve something greater together.

Kpop has its own formula basically to accommodate all the traditional parts of an idol group (dance line/vocal line/rap line etc). Makes it fun for the production aspect too with all the opportunities for those crazy transitions.
@apurvaanand519613 күн бұрын
I think they thought holistically, the reasons why there is a slower vocal part: -to shine the members who are singers - to catch a breath when dancing -to amp up the crowd when the chorus comes back -have a slower part to make the chorus seem larger when it repeats -they also get hate from have less melodically choruses so I think they add these to prove their talent vocally. Yes I do get what you guys mean though, it isn’t totally fitting, but I’m sure they have their reasons, I SWEAR they spend more than 3 hours building and polishing for EVERY second of the song.
@JuttaB-t1v14 күн бұрын
Thanks for the reaction! And you’re right, they are very skilled - they can cook up 40 genres and that’s what God’s Menu is all about! The hand movements and accompanying “gun shots” are actually the sounds a knife makes on a chopping board. If you pay close attention to their dance moves you’ll see that they add spices to the dish. That’s why they change beats and genres into a seamless and perfectly balanced blend. Like the most iconic line of this song: Cooking like a chef, I’m a five star Michelin (and yes, they obviously know that there are only three Michelin stars max). And, by the way, K-Pop is an industry, not a genre. It’s all genres of music that are made in and are popular in Korea.

One thing I would mention is that this is from 2020, so these guys are 19-23 years old self-producing and writing. I get the vibe they they’re influenced by a lot of different types of music and they like playing around with sound and transition and building the tension, letting it cool a bit and then hitting it hard again. It’s actually one of the criticisms they get that they make “noise music” which they have clapped back at through songs like Thunderous and Cheese, and a little bit here where they mention critics as crows and magpies. I think you should watch some of the live performances too like their 2022 Mama awards performance of Venom and Maniac, their 2021 MAMA Performance, the Legendary Kingdom performances where they did a mashup/rearrangement called “God’s Ddu-du ddu-du” and “I’ll be Your Man” where you get to see other parts of their talent on. Also the 2024 AMA’s 50th anniversary performance of Bye Bye Bye x Chk Chk Boom in October.

@ because they’re younger them and they’re older now and as they’ve aged so has their music evolved with them. Felt like the reactors were judging them and it seemed like a little more background on the group was needed. They are young. I love watching people react to Stray Kids, especially God’s Menu! Enjoy the ride! Their motto at the end their videos is speaking to their fan base, called Stay. They’re Stray Kids and they invite other stray kids to joint them. They’ve said that if you take the R in their name that is the reason for why they do everything, and it makes them Stay, giving them a place to fit in, and it’s for everyone who follows them to fit in too. God’s Menu was all about how they are unique and they are creators (hence the chefs, marching band, scientists, and construction crew but they work because their a team which is the racing pit crew), and what they create people will find something to satisfy “all 5 senses” even just the passersby and haters (pigeons, magpies, and crows).

I appreciate that you are giving them a chance. This group was my gateway to kpop and they changed my 54 year old Western ears massively several years ago, so I can understand some of the thoughts when listening to the change ups in genres, something so not normal for the listener used to a formulaic song structure and regular rhythm... Yes, there are sections that might seem clichéd, but I think once the Western listener dives deeper into Stray Kids, the kpop industry, and the idol system, that listener will have a better appreciation for kpop as a whole. I challenge you both to really delve deeper into the almost 200 tracks written and produced by this group. The beauty of their music is that it does cross multiple genres and that, by far, this is NOT anything near cookie cutter music or what you think it should be. For me there's nuance in their songwriting and structure and it is nothing short of genius. Live performances are nonstop for 3 hours and they can each sing, dance, rap and just entertain. Truly fantastic. Thanks, again, for the reaction!!

I think it's a little tough for you, still, to grasp their concept until you see more of their work and can really compare more of what they do. They really are sort of anti-establishment in a way, fighting the stereotypes and writing/performing what they want rather than what the industry forces them to do. They have all different types of breakdowns throughout their various songs, and they do have songs that are straight pop, as well. If they like it, they do it. They do it because they love it and they also know that not everything they do will hit for everyone, and they are cool with that too. As STAY I think what's most important to me is that they are staying true to themselves and their own style no matter what anyone thinks. Even if they have a song that doesn't hit for me as hard as others I can still get behind pretty much everything they produce for one reason or another.

To the 'criticism' (for lack a better word) of the pop part. I'd like to point out that the target demographic of Stray Kids are still young women. one of the really interesting things i've found about skz and those tone shifts they do mid-song, is that those little pauses really help draw the song out a bit more. because you have that moment of pause to sort of take a breath, the next drop feels even bigger than it would without that pause, so te whole song sort of slows for a moment at that hinge moment with the tone change, and then the rollercoaster takes you back in, and it can actually make listening to the song feel like an even more immersive experience, or like it takes longer than it does, because there's those little moments of anticipation built in. obviously it's still not for everyone, and there's some songs where maybe it works better than on others, but it's something i've noticed that made me appreciate those switches a little more on an artistic and experiential level.

Han, one member of 3Racha, wrote this when he was 19. They wanted to show that they are different than other K-pop groups out there. That's where the hate comes from, because they aren't traditional in a sense. If you want to hear their responses to the hate, check out "Cheese". It's them, basically, flipping all the haters off.

oh brother the breakdowns in hype songs like this one are everywhere in kpop 💀 imagine them listening to favorite by nct 127 or istj by nct dream lmfao imo it makes the songs unique

The song uses culinary metaphors to convey the idea of offering a variety of experiences and emotions through music The lyrics it emphasizes themes of ambition, confidence, and the desire to stand out in the competitive music industry. 1. Welcome to the Stray Kids train ride....hold on tight. 2. Yes, they switch their beats up ALOT. You will get used to it. Everyone notices it, but they make it work so well. 3. Please go down the rabbit hole. They have SOOOOO MANY songs and have different types of music. They are definitely different from most Kpop groups. Maybe because they write and produce their own music. They can sing their asses off too.....wait and see. The only Kpop group I listen to.

Stray Kids are known as the noisy ones. A lot of their title tracks are high energy with lots of edm which some people call loud and noisy. Not every song is like that. They actually have an extremely diverse discography and everyone can find at least one song they like in their discography despite what their main fav music genre is. They do hip hop, edm, rock etc… I suggest listening to megaverse, s class and top line. Thanks for the reaction!

Please watch their "kingdom" live performances. Most of them are mashups of their own songs + other songs, or covers. They are absolutely WILD performers.

They produce the music by them self. Not the Entertainment Company. This is very rar in this Industry that a Group have this Freedom to do all by them self. I never saw a more talented Group in all Sections

The guy on the right definitely seems like he gets it I always feel loke im getting a journey out of kpop music. This ding goes stupid hard live with everyone screaming the lyrics. I like the anticipation that the pre chorus brings to the song. It gives you opportunity yo prepare yourself for the epic nature of the chorus.

If you don't like melodic breaks try Easy, Hey Day, Muddy Water and We Go. A lot of their songs have the melodic breaks to give their singers a time to shine and the listeners a chance to breathe.

so i am a renegade and that's how i found you guys but many years before i'd ever heard the name ren i discovered stray kids and their music (my worlds are colliding and it's weird) so if you appreciate creativity, love for the craft, quality production, vocals, rap, crossing boundaries and defying genres i can assure you you've come to the right place this is another rabbit hole that will suck you in before you know it stray kids lore goes deep and stray kids discography goes even deeper

I love the honest conversation. Many western songs have women singing similar melodic breaks as well. Is that more r and b? Sorry, sleep deprived; brain not braining. Their music is really about the journey and their music, and they love a good clap back song, which is what this song is. This song is them saying we can and will do it all, and we don't care how our haters feel about it. And then the song shows they really can hit multiple genres I can find songs for my jazzy sister to like and my folk/ down east canadiana boyfriend to like, and I love all the variety of music they produce. They have two songs Muddy Water (rap line) and Waiting for You (vocal line) They only have lyric videos but they also traded songs at a fan meeting so I would recommend watching those versions too because it shows how versatile they are as performers Other songs that don't have a vocal break or a less extreme vocal break are Maze of Memories, Side Effects and The Trotoise and the Hare. Not for everyone For examples of their vocal heavy and more meaningful songs, I would recommend Secret Secret and Silent Cry together since silent cry is responding to secret secret

Stray Kids like to keep people guessing which shows in their songs. They add in elements that are unpredictable hence the change in genre in this song. They do have some songs that stick to 1 genre but they tend to be the slower more meaningful songs. Again thanks for the reaction and hope you react to more. If you want Rap then I'd suggest Megaverse, Venom, Topline and Easy

Compositionally as well, I think the singing portion helps the listener by giving them a break from the "loud" and heavy hip hop! It breaks the song up a little bit instead of just being "noisy" which they are sometimes criticized for. Also, just FYI, if you like the hip hop and rap you should check out "Easy" by them! 😊
