Great tutorial, nice job! I am in Phoenix, Arizona and today it was ~44­°C so having an easy way to create shade out at the lake is critical 😅 Sandbags will be perfect, we definitely have lots of sand hahaha. Cheers!

Thanks Di - Glad it helped. I've been using this setup for years now and that anchor point is key :) One addition I've been using recently is adding a centre pole for more head room. Works like a charm.

Thanks for your video. I hadn't thought of the sandbag procedure as I usually don't go to a beach since I live in the desert. The ground is super hard in many places but I can scrape enough soil or use rocks to make my anchor points. I prefer tarp setups like you demonstrated to buying an awning for my Jeep. Your way is so much cheaper and is relatively fast, though not nearly as fast as a 270° awning. By the way, I did like and I did subscribe. I look forward to finding more of your videos.

That's great - So glad you like the video. We often go to places where there is no sand at all, only stones, and I just fill the bags with rocks for the same effect. Nothing will really come close to how quick it is to set up a car awning, but this way has a lot of cost advantages, plus, especially if someone helps you, you can get set up pretty quickly. Lately, I've been adding a centre pole for extra head room.

Not sure to be honest. When I bought the car it came with the snorkel. The guys here do a lot of deep river crossings so maybe it has something to do with it being more difficult for splash water to get in from the front?

Thank you Bevin! I'm a fellow South African, and you have no idea how much this video has helped me as a single mom. I have a self-built van set-up (nothing fancy, and on a tiny budget) and I didn't want to spend the ridiculous amount of money on the 4×4 awnings everyone is trying to sell me. I've now been playing around with the tarp. I am anchoring it to the vehicle in two spots, pulling it tight, but the poles stay wobbly, even with very strong pegs. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
