I feel I saw a good point for a house rule. Do not debate outside the current scenario. They started using old scenarios to try to influence the current one without their cards or actual play legitimately helping them, and also tried to debate Mr Rogers is a killer robot. Probably a good house rule to say: don't try to change the scenario with your debate. What is happening on the track is what it shows on the respective cards. I did like them debating that the different items on the track were related, though; makes the scenario more complicated, and gives more to debate without just making stuff up.
