For capturing Zoom video, I understand the use of this, and as you said, it's quite simple. For audio, I don't see what the point of all this is, as I achieve the same thing much more simply with: - In OBS, my Mic is an input, and Desktop Audio is an input. - In Zoom, my Mic is the input and my Speakers are the output. - So Zoom functions normally and fine. - And OBS records my mic via the Mic input, and records the Zoom audio output (when other people speak) via the Desktop Audio input. Add the display capture video, I get a complete recording of the meeting within OBS. Why go through all this trouble?
@evyordanov4 жыл бұрын
Same. Thanks, Steve! I thought it was just me going insane here listening to this overcomplicated setup. No idea why we should make it this hard. And if you want to monitor stuff, just plug in your headphones instead of your speakers, so people don't hear their own voices because of speaker/microphone feedback loop. And bam! That's all there is to it 🙂

As an example, OBS can add filters to the mic e.g. Noise Suppression, Compressor, Gain and a Limiter.
@AreYouKenneth4 жыл бұрын
Because you can use OBS Virtual Camera plugin to add any video (or even video layers over your video, place small squares with videos, images, desktop/app share, filters on your videos, switch scenes, or anything) as Zoom will receive anything OBS sends as a webcam input and it will be shown to everyone. The audio is similar (but harder to configure). OBS receives Zoom's output instead of going directly to the speakers, then your microphone or any audio source you choose can be injected into Zoom as a microphone input. You can even record your Zoom meeting in a variety of formats or stream your Zoom meeting to any other service like KZbin, Facebook, Twitch or any custom server of your choice. You can also add OBS plugins or any third-party piece of software that can do anything. You can do anything you want with whatever you send to or receive from Zoom or any other service.

Okay, I'm all in with this. I am now *SUBSCRIBED!* I ordered your book, _Unofficial Guide to OBS._ Now I have some questions. 1. At 4:39 the slide shows that *Start Streaming* is highlighted. Is that relevant for what we are doing? 2. At the same point in the video you say that we are going to start the virtual camera. The slide eludes that I should click the *Studio Mode* in the *Controls* panel. My zoom display switches to two displays, *Preview* and *Program.* Does this mean the _virtual camera_ has started? 3. At 4:44 you direct us to go over to Zoom to select a camera. I find that I have *OBS Camera* and *OBS Virtual Camera.* One displays a gray display, the other displays an OBS symbol plus a camera icon at the bottom with a line through it, I suspect this is a result of my trying to get this working before seeing your video. Any advice? I suspect I can sort this out eventually. In any case, when I attach my camera to the computer the video shows up in zoom. In lieu of using VoiceMeeter as a virtual splitter, I was able to do this through Windows in the Sound Control Panel (Recording). Select CABLE-A Output, and assign your headphones to "listen to this device". If you are using VoiceMeeter it appears that Cable-A is unnecessary. I was able to select VoiceMeeter as my monitoring device in OBS. Regardless of how you're splitting your audio, if you're using OBS in place of your own talking-head in Zoom (like Paul shows in this video), then you can select Cable-A Output as your Zoom microphone. On the other hand, if you're using Zoom Share-Screen to stream OBS, then your Zoom mic settings are irrelevant. Zoom Share-Screen audio will only listen to your default system output, and for whatever reason in my experience, could not be a virtual cable. However you still need to split the audio to locally monitor it.
@williammusicman4 жыл бұрын
but my question is, can you utilize the audio filters especially the noise suppression (which is really important) in OBS by doing that?
@paulgetchell4 жыл бұрын
I haven't really used any audio filters (though I probably should) but all of the volume controls within OBS work with this setup. Because this setup relies on the OBS "Monitoring Device" output, during a scene change, the audio is able to fade from one scene to another on a streaming channel, but not on the monitor, thus this setup gets a hard audio transition between scenes.

@castletheperson4 жыл бұрын
You're getting double audio probably because you enabled "Monitor and Output" or "Monitor Only" for your Desktop Audio 2 (which is the Zoom output from Cable B) in the Advanced Audio Properties in OBS. Don't do that. To fix it, go to the Advanced Audio Properties in OBS (see timestamp 10:56) and switch your Desktop Audio 2 back to "Monitor Off". You don't want your Zoom speaker output going back into your Zoom microphone. You only want to monitor the audio sources in OBS that you want people in Zoom to hear because things that are monitored in OBS are sent to Cable A, which is your microphone input in Zoom. The Cable B output only needs to be heard in VoiceMeeter (for you yourself to be able to hear it) and to your OBS output (for your video recording/stream audience to hear it). If you're not streaming/recording in OBS (such as if you're only using OBS for the Virtual Camera and/or to share your desktop audio), then you don't need Cable B at all. You could just output your Zoom speaker audio to the VoiceMeeter Input or directly to whatever hardware device that you want to listen on.

You should make clear that setting voicemeeter as default needs to happen for both playback and recording. And why have the virtual cable assignments in obs changed from the prior video, e.g going from mic to desktop audio 2? There still seems to be something missing - were these instrux actually used to do a new setup? I really do appreciate what you are trying to do here. But there don't seem to be clear assignment instructions anywhere for someone wanting to record a session with a headset and obs alone or with VM
@mattconsidine1774 жыл бұрын
Just went through all the steps again. No luck. "Video is Easy" graphic: - "1" points to Studio Mode, not Camera. For people who aren't familiar this could be misleading if they think the setting referenced is under "Mode". This isn't that big of a deal. Getting the video to work is pretty straightforward - the need for "advanced" settings under video in zoom should be covered so that a window can be captured. Zoom tends to offer up a gray screen. Voicemeeter needs to be default for *both* playback and recording, not just the first window that comes up. The VM graphic is not very legible when enlarged, so hard to read your settings. Identify clicking A1 in upper right to select *WDM* version of your output Items should be renamed for easy of following along. The settings shown in the VM graphic absolutely don't work. *All* of my OBS, Zoom, VM and system sound defaults *appear* to be the same as yours but this doesn't work.

Unfortunately your solution would bring in a lot of latency into the teacher or zoom owner because voice meter and that the VB cable introduce a lot of lag and it will make monitoring UNBEarable. My solution is to use ASIO link pro
@napolinlaw4 жыл бұрын
1) Right-Click on the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner of windows 2) Click "Sounds" 3) Click on the "Recording" tab 4) Find "CABLE-B Output" and right-click then go to "Properties" 5) Go to the "Listen" tab and check the box for "Listen to this device" 6) If you're not getting sound, check what is selected under "Playback through this device" but for me leaving it as "Default Playback Device" worked.

the only (affordable) option to use a mic on my setup is using the internal one that makes a lot of noise so being able to use OBS to filter the audio and then redirecting it to my meetings saved my ass. Thank you so much for the forbidden knowledge

When sending zoom back through to OBS, do I have to set up a second scene and send the window capture there? I’m brand new to OBS so I’m not sure if it records all scenes simultaneously or just the one that’s visible
@castletheperson4 жыл бұрын
OBS only records the scene that's visible

I don't get it. So, if I am using Mac do I NEED to have Soundflower? I mean it's not an option, right? Because ONLY with the VB cable I don't have the same set up as you show. Thanks
@JorgeSilvestrini4 жыл бұрын
Hey Davide - correct! You'll need the OBS camera for Mac and then something like Soundflower or Loopback to get the audio going from one place to another place.

Really helpful - exactly what I needed. Followed the steps to the letter and was up and running straight away. However, I've since found out about NDI which looks like it might also work, with the added benefits of being able to incorporate the a/v from other computers on the network. Have you had experience with NDI?

NDI is great.

Hi, what do I need to do to make obs record zoom meeting, but enable mic recording only when I unmute my mic zoom ? (for now I just mute mic on obs so it won't record my mic all the time..) Thank you
@StreamGeeks4 жыл бұрын
I think you need to continue to manage the way you mute your microphone in OBS. You could set up a hotkey to mute your microphone in OBS and use the same mute hotkey in Zoom.

I'm still trying to understand how the Scenes and Sources are setup in OBS. The cables are fine, but you ultimately need speakers and a mic somewhere, right? What about document sharing? Now, I use a window capture in OBS to throw to Zoom. Is that still good?
@StreamGeeks4 жыл бұрын
Yes we would suggest using a video capture to get Zoom into OBS. For document sharing to the Zoom audience you can use the screen share feature
@nmraweb4 жыл бұрын
@@StreamGeeks OK, but where do I tell something where the actual camera and mic are? Is that set in a scene? That part is still unclear to me. Although this was a better explanation, and thank you Paul for putting it together.

Interesting topic. I found that if you use obs in zoom and in teams and add media files or media background images the system slows down to a point you cannot use zoom or teams as it completely stop responding and the video feed freezes. Is there a way to fix this?
@StreamGeeks4 жыл бұрын
You can make sure to enable your graphics card with OBS which will help a lot. Otherwise, to do this you should be using at least an i5 with an i7 preferred.

thanks mate, great video but I cannot get this working so hopefully you can help :) I find music distracting when playing video games so I want for the viewers to hear it but not me. I bought all for A, B, C and D virtual cables. I separated the sound like this, A for the music source (Chrome KZbin free copyright music) - I want this to only be heard by my stream viewers and not me. B - for my main game I play, C for another game and D for another game. I play and stream with OBS Studio all these 3 games. However because in App volume and devices preferences, Master volume is set to Output in the Headphones, I hear all of them including the music - how can I make it so I don't hear the music? Thanks mate :)

Why would you do this? I mean you might have said it but I'm still not clear. Right now I'm using stream yard and I have an Elgato and just got ATEM mini pro. I have used zoom before but it seems like you could just use zoom straight from the camera without using OBS. Are you getting better quality going through OBS 1st or something? Or are you just trying to stream with zoom without paying and capture locally as well? Sorry if this is super novice or you've already answered a in the video I didn't get much sleep Last night lol

What kind of sorcery are and anyone else setting this up doing???

Turns out you can have two instances of OBS running. So in one I have a scene to feed zoom and in the other it captures a window and the audio from the mic and from the zoom audio output....
