Hi Yoram, thank you for the video. By far you are the best presenter about NDI and Zoom. In particular about the different routing and comes with detailed diagrams. I have checked your other video about Beginners with OBS and Zoom. There is one thing that I would like to request you for a answer or a video, that is how do you arrange a side by side interviewer and interviewee on Zoom. It seems NDI can push out audio and video, but how to get audio from an interviewee (Guest Speaker)? Looking forward to hear from you. Much appreciated.

Did this ever get answered? I'm having trouble recording audio from those I interview. I can hear them just fine, but OBS doesn't record their audio, so it's just silence when they speak (which I only find out when I go to edit the video...and is SUPER frustrating).

I've been experimenting with trying to livestream my Zoom calls on the free version and OBS, to KZbin. The biggest issue is sending out your voice to KZbin, as the audio only goes to the guest. I fixed this by adding a second microphone. Mt guest gets the audio from my cheap microphone, and the Livestream gets the audio from my nice microphone. The livestream comes out well, just got to balance the audio levels.

NDI would synchronize video and audio if you get both through the same channel, but that doesn't happen... Plus, OBS buffers audio, and at some point creates delay.

Yoram, I am enjoying your video and its step by step instructions. Question. You mentioned during the NDI 4 Tools installation that you don't run any software or apps that you are not going to need to be using so it does not use your RAM resources. The desktop I am using will be dedicated to streaming, but I want to make sure that I am being efficient with the RAM resources. How do I manage the opened items especially in Start Up? Thank you.
@YoramSolomon3 жыл бұрын
Chris, thank you for your kind note. Two answers: first, you just shut down any application you don't need. For me, the Chrome browser almost always is the biggest RAM hog... I just looked, and I think that 60% of the RAM is used by Chrome... To the second answer: If you write "Startup Apps" (probably writing "Startup" will be enough) in the bottom window, near the Windows logo, the "Startup" settings window will open. Another way to get there is through entering Windows Settings, then Apps, then Startup. You will see all the apps that will open automatically at startup. On the right side of each one is an on/off slider, which you can switch to off. Below that slider, it also tells you how much of an impact that this app have on your computer's performance. I hope this helps!

Ah, Tim, I'm glad you asked. There is, but you can control it. If you go to Settings > Output, you will see the video bitrate element. The LOWER this number is, the HIGHER the compression rate it. I played with numbers from 2500 Kbps (2.5 Mbps) up to 50000 Kbps (50 Mbps). I could notice the difference in performance but, more than all, the performance in file size (note that while the Video Bitrate is in the "Streaming" section, the Recording section has "Recording Quality" which I have set (also the default) to "Same as stream."

Why? Difference might be at least 30%... Otherwise thx again for this wonderful tutorial!
@YoramSolomon4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment, Andreas. I actually think that the difference is much more than 30%. Note my comment at 14:44 of that video, and where you can change the volume setting. I no longer go with +6db, I go with +20db to get the same sound level (!). I'm guessing it's just a matter of definition of what NDI believes the sound level should be, versus what microphones put out. My guess is also that it is driven by other systems than OBS/Zoom... So, just take it up to +20db. I hope this helps.

Hi Yoram! Me again. One more question/remark... well it works, but sync delay is still quite obvious within live Zoom-session. Even if the mic delay is set to (maximum of) -950ms; sometimes that fits... but than again seconds later it does not... I guess it‘s still a question of other processes on the PC (which I tried to close of course). Any other idea? Iliked the idea of NDI in order to use OBS on a PC and than using NDI just send it to another PC which just runs the Zoom session... but as mentioned... just still too much delay (by the way: no delay if I stay just to one PC and use regular audio/mic source on (same PC) within Zoom.... Hopefully you understand what I mean... anyway thx again for your work!

That's a great question, Juan, and I'm planning another video on that at some point. But for now, when your OBS scene includes another source of content with audio, that source will show up in the "advanced audio properties" window. Just make sure that you do "audio monitoring" and select "Monitor and Output" for that source, and you'll be fine. This allows you to choose what sources will go out through NDI. I hope this helps!

Yoram, thanks for very clear instructions. This solution works great for me as long as I use only my microphone as a sound source. As soon as I want to use audio from my desktop (i.e. when I have a video in my powerpoint slides), both Zoom and MS Teams are trying to cancel out the sound and the virtual meeting participants can hear the sound from the video distorted or not at all. Even when I reduce the noice suppression to minimum, the sound is still distorted. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that both Zoom and PowerPoint output the sound to same audio output device/spekeares. Any idea how to get videos and other sounds play through zoom properly?

I'm finding that the only way I can calculate the sync offset is to do a zoom meeting and do a test recording and then drop the file into a video editor to calculate how many milliseconds off it is. Then I have to start a new meeting and sometimes it's still not synced. Is there anything I can do to make this easier?
@YoramSolomon4 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, the delay in the recording is different than the delay in streaming. I experienced the same thing. Also, I found that, depending on my computer loading (and I'm sure other factors, as well) the delay will change over time. I found the BEST method is to have a second computer (or even a mobile phone or a tablet), connect to the same call as another participant, put a headset on that device, and just adjust until sync is perfect. I do that with EVERY CALL (unless I don't care too much about the lack of sync...)

@@YoramSolomon I ended up re-adding the two IP cams and NDI sources and my latency dropped to almost nothing! Now I'm having an issue upon startup, the NDI "Webcam Input" app is saying "No NDI Sources Found". When I right click and hit exit and restart the NID Webcam Input app, the cameras appear and it's great. How do I get them to show when I first start the computer?

@@oatsack watch this video. That's what I do. I actually still found that it will not start, so every time I restart the computer, I wait, then go to task manager, "kill" NDI, restart it, select inputs, and everything is good in the world after that... My audio isn't working in zoom with the ndi microphone. I have triple checked everything and it seems like I've done everything correctly. The ndi video works, its just the audio that isn't. What can I do to troubleshoot? Thank you!

Hi . I need your advice on a plugging to use to fix a issue i have within OBS ... Ok here it goes .. My video and audio is perfectly in sync going live on the various plateforme .. yes that all fine and good. If i Am not actually in person at the live event to hear how far away the delay speaches actually is. My issues is.. that when i am at the live event space.. the listen back on OBS and the listen back widdin the event space is not on the same timing. IF.. i say IF.. i click around in OBS. Now if i just open OBS with everything going on .. without touching anything around in the canva .. then all is perfect in every way. But as soon as I click around in OBS canvas then the listen back audio in OBS is not on same tempo as the real and natural output sound in the event space How do I get the OBS monitor output in the advance audio property to match up with the event space output sound as i am there in person.

Sorry, I switched to a new computer, and haven't installed NDI. I needed NDI when my previous computer was showing an audio sync issue, but the new computer is a gaming computer, and doesn't have that problem, so I didn't install NDI.

how to set up zoom breakout rooms to zoom then go back to zoom breakout rooms? Thank you for your response.

I am not sure what you are asking... can you describe the scenario in more detail?

@@YoramSolomon I made a zoom meeting and then put the participants in the zoom breakout rooms. I want the happenings in each room shall be sync in the OBS. Then I will let this shown in each breakout rooms. in short ZOOM BEAKOUT ROOMS to OBS to ZOOM BREAKOUT ROOMS. I hope this more clear. hehehe

@@YoramSolomon i hope you can help me. Thanks.
@YoramSolomon3 жыл бұрын
@@benjiemaynopasofficial , if I understood correctly, you want what happens in every breakout room to be transmitted, aggregated, and then sent back to each of the breakout rooms. So, in every breakout room, you will be able to see what's happening in the OTHER breakout rooms, as well. Did I understand correctly? I thought about it. It's possible, but might take a bit more resources that you thought... The way I can think of it right now is to have TWO zoom calls taking place at the same time. One of the computers in EACH breakout rooms will be connected through HDMI to an HDMI-to-USB connector to a second computer in the same location, which will be connected through a SECOND Zoom call to the other "secondary" computers in every breakout room. The HDMI OUTPUT from this extra computer will be connected through a SECOND HDMI-to-USB adapter to the same computer that shared the HDMI output with that extra computer, and will be handled as a second camera. If you are serious about doing this, and willing to have an extra computer in EVERY breakout room, with a SECOND Zoom call, let me know, and I will draw a picture for you.

@@YoramSolomon Yes this is correct. Hopefully you can draw me a picture of the process. It will be a great help for what I want to present in our church. Thanks.

which one do you prefer? using NDI or VIRTUAL CABLE?
@YoramSolomon4 жыл бұрын
I prefer NDI. It feel "cleaner," although CABLE is a little simpler. I am planning on downloading an NDI-compatible iPhone webcam app. NDI allows more paths whereas CABLE only allows one. I hope this helps.

I’ve been experimenting with the NDI workflow. I’ve not had time to properly trouble shoot it, but I’ve noticed the NDI audio is full of crackles and clipping noises. When you record the Zoom call and playback the audio, it’s full of terrible audio artifacts. It’s too bad. I really want this workflow to be stable. I’d love to get the clean processed audio out of OBS but over the NDI connection, it’s so degraded that is not worth it at the moment. I’m sure I’ll find a solution soon.
@YoramSolomon4 жыл бұрын
I don't have this issue with it. I wonder what is your computer loading and if that could be the reason. My computer is a gaming laptop that I use for video editing, so it is pretty powerful.
@TangleWireTube4 жыл бұрын
@@YoramSolomon I’m on a solid home build PC machine. It’s not likely a processing bottle neck. I’ve somewhat fixed it in my Zoom recordings. In Zoom’s advanced audio settings there’s an optimize for music option. It makes for a heavier stream, but the audio quality issues are resolved. I’ve tried using the NDI audio outputs to record elsewhere and found poor audio quality there as well. Unpredictable quality issues. Sounds a lot like a buffer issue. Admittedly, I’m dong a more complicated set up than most would require. So I’m bound to face more trouble shooting issues. I’ll have it solved shortly. Just haven’t had the time to do a deep dive on the issue yet.
