I have always been captivated by Chips ability to draw. Drawing everything with pen and marker is something I've never been able to grasp. That was one of my favorite parts of his show was sitting with someone, hearing what they described and seeing him create that. Would love to be able to build something with him.

Chip is a class act. I met him briefly in 2007 at a Fast Fords car show when he was introducing the Foose Mustang. He sat for hours inside and signed autographs and even sketched several dozen cars on hats and T shirts. He was outside and was walking around and meeting folks, chatting and shaking hands. He signed the owners manual for my 2004 Mercury Marauder. As of today I have had this car 15 years and with only 53K miles hopefully I will still have it when it becomes a classic. With only 3,214 made, it's already rare.

Some cars are difficult to improve on the original design. The '63 Corvette Split Window Coupe is one of those cars. Some songs are nailed the first time. Some films are nailed the first time. Same thing with some cars.

Quiet frankly, I’d love to find a ‘63 with the window cut out! I’ve never seen one, only heard that people did it...I’ve seen plenty of splits, I think a modified one would be super rare! Especially if the factory had a hand in it...thanks Chip, always love these videos...reminds me of reading Robert Cumberford’s Column in Automobile Mag. A real pleasure seeing the professional take on things we laypeople take for granted....and would love to see you rake on a early 911.....thank you.

My31and37, you’re not Chip Foose either. I’m not sure why he doesn’t cut one up if he likes them so bad. Although you’re talking about a 250k to 350k. Just the roof windows & A pillars alone is a150,000.00 dollars to do. Then add in the drive train suspension and modern day LT1 or a LS7. You would have a Rocket Ship!

This is what I like about Chip Foose, he understands the geometry of the electrical and mechanical components of a car. When he redesigns a car he understands that the breaks, radiators, lights, exhaust, wiring harnesses, and suspension all have to be fabricated to fit and make that redesign work.

Lowered cars also generally have sacrificed ride comfort and noise level. Lower car means stiffer suspension to avoid bottoming out suspension. Stiffer suspension means better handling but also reduced comfort and generally noisier ride

Some cars are hard to improve on , like the Corvette Stingray . Perhaps that's because the first Corvette Stingray was designed by another legendary automotive designer , and Art Center School of Design grad , Pete Brock who also later designed the Shelby Cobra Daytona . Brock worked for GM under Bill Mitchell in their design dept . GM was going to drop the Corvette , and Mitchell wanted to find a way to improve the body design to improve the cars appeal . He asked his team to come up with some new styling ideas for the Corvette , and Pete Brock produced a set of drawings that became the first Corvette Stingray , and the rest is history . Not bad for a 19 year old kid ! . Both Foose and Brock are legendary designers , and what an endorsement for the Art Center School of Design ! 😎👍

Hi Chip, just watched this video and would like to ask you a couple of questions. I am not a trained artist, I just like to draw cars. I have struggled sketching cars trying to make them proportionally and geometrically correct and was gobsmacked to see that you had traced this one, is this the method you normally take? I will certainly try this. Another thing is I find wheels very very challenging and more often than not they don’t look right. So I love the method you have taken on this one by only derailing tge time outline and including the tire with the dark wheel well. Is this your normal approach. Thanks so much, this has been an eye opener and bonus for me. Cheers

There are just as many smokers today as there was in 1963, probably more. The smoker windows and ashtrays were phased out because people who didn't smoke complained that they promoted smoking so they were gone. There should be optional ashtrays, lighters and smoker windows, everywhere I go I see people tossing butts on streets and all over parking lots.
