Street Fight with a Boxer, Bad Idea?

Would a boxer always win in a street fight against a normal person? The fight will instantly be over if a boxer lands the first punch in a street fight. You do not need to hit someone hard; you just need to hit them correctly at the right place and time, and then you can knock them out with one punch.

You will have to get a lawyer spending money you don’t have, more than likely you won’t have the money so you will stay in jail until your trial by then you will lose your job. Just play the tape all the way through. Muay Thai has one weakness over boxing. Boxing teaches footwork, bobbing and weaving to evade. Muay Thai is all out destruction, in a street fight anything goes. Muay Thai doesn’t focus on physical and fitness as much as boxing does, while their moves are harder and takes more energy to perform. An expert Muay Thai fighter will probably beat an expert boxer majority of the time, but if it’s a street fight between average practitioners it really depends on the fitness of each.

@@charlesK12960 In a street fight scenario, both boxing and Muay Thai offer significant advantages, but their effectiveness depends on various factors. Here's a breakdown: **Superficial Answer:** Muay Thai is likely the better option for street defense due to its more comprehensive arsenal of strikes-punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and clinch work. Boxing, however, is excellent for quick, powerful hand strikes, footwork, and head movement. **In-Depth Analysis:** **1. Boxing for Self-Defense:** - **Strengths:** - **Footwork and Distance Management:** Boxers are trained to move efficiently, maintaining distance or closing gaps quickly. This is crucial in avoiding strikes in unpredictable street fights. - **Hand Speed and Accuracy:** Boxing develops fast, precise punches, which can be the first line of defense in a fight. A well-placed jab or cross can end an altercation quickly. - **Head Movement and Defensive Maneuvers:** Boxers are adept at slipping punches and staying elusive, which helps avoid damage. - **Limitations:** - **Limited Striking Arsenal:** Boxing only trains punches, which can be limiting if the opponent uses kicks, knees, or grappling. - **Vulnerability to Leg Kicks:** Street fighters who know how to kick can take advantage of a boxer's untrained legs. **2. Muay Thai for Self-Defense:** - **Strengths:** - **Full-Body Striking Arsenal:** Muay Thai fighters are trained to use all their limbs-punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. This versatility allows them to attack from various angles and ranges. - **Elbows and Knees in Close Quarters:** These strikes are devastating in clinch or close-range scenarios, which are common in street fights. A sharp elbow or knee can end a confrontation quickly. - **Clinch and Control:** Muay Thai's clinch work is excellent for controlling an opponent, preventing them from striking, and setting up powerful knee or elbow strikes. - **Leg Kicks:** Muay Thai practitioners are skilled in targeting an opponent’s legs, which can immobilize and incapacitate them early in a fight. - **Limitations:** - **Less Emphasis on Head Movement and Defensive Boxing:** Muay Thai fighters may not have the head movement or footwork that boxers excel in, leaving them open to quick, precise punches. - **Vulnerability in the Clinch if Untrained in Grappling:** A strong grappler could take advantage of a Muay Thai practitioner’s clinch if they don’t know how to defend against takedowns. **Conclusion:** For street self-defense, **Muay Thai** holds an edge due to its wide variety of strikes and ability to handle close-quarters combat. However, **boxing** can be extremely effective in situations where fast, precise punches and superior footwork are required. The ideal approach might involve combining the two, with boxing providing excellent hand skills and footwork, while Muay Thai offers comprehensive striking and clinch control.

Thinking the same. I trained boxing for about 12 years before I transitioned to Muay Thai. Been training that for the last 20 years now. And that is, in my experience, one of the best striking techniques. A push kick or a couple of rapid low kicks to the knee and your opponent is done for. Not to speak of the damage you can do with an elbow if you're close and can't create distance. So many more options in Muay Thai. I've never done any grappling, so on the ground I'm pretty much toast if the other guy knows what he is doing. Did some hard sparring with a BJJ brown belt. That was no fun. 😂🙈

Lack of head movement, square on stance, lack of evasion and footwork, lack of power in the hands all contribute to muay thai being the weaker option for self defence when compared to boxing. The low kicks, teeps and clinch are useful. Low kicks can do damage and teeps are very good at keeping someone at distance, clinch is good but they can bite you, headbutt you, pull a knife, take you down, i would never get in clinch tbh. I believe strong boxing skills being powerful and fast punches, head movement and evasive footwork is the way to go. I think muay thai whilst it has many weapons is quite overrated @rylter
@rylter
@rylter Ай бұрын
@@oceanpsalm3816 I don't know what dojo you trained at. But there is absolutely no lack of footwork and evasion where I trained. Three years in Thailand and the rest here in Sweden. Head movement, depending on your opponent can be dangerous. As I had a long background in boxing before switching to Muay Thai I got in alot of trouble for the "burnt in" boxing head movements. Furthermore there is no lack of power in the hands, you can still use the same rotation and sort of deliver the punch with your whole body in Muay Thai. And if you're an experienced fighter the stance is no issue. I would often switch between orthodox and south paw in both techniques and in a street fight you would surley not go in to the classic Muay Thai stance. I get you're argument. But all I'm saying is that you have a far greater arsenal of things to use if you have a background in Muay Thai. And if you're experienced enough, pretty much any background in any striking will be good. You'll have better reflexes and an eye for what your opponent is doing, how he is standing, where his balance is, where his hands are, how he moves etc. I think your argument is based on what classic Muay Thai looks like and that the fighter would use exactly that. And in that case, I'm with you. Then boxing is superior.

Boxing probably _is_ the best one for a street fight, because more than any other contact sport, you will be conditioned to take a beating, and you won't be afraid of the pain. And no one punches harder than boxers.

You act like boxing is the only full contact sport or training. Doesn't mean you do boxing. it doesn't mean you can punch hard. it all depends on how and how many time you train your punches. Multiple martial arts train Punches and actually have hard Punches in some boxers
@itskarl7575
@itskarl7575 2 ай бұрын
@@Karate_Koa808 Which is precisely why boxing is the best art for street fights, because boxing trains _only_ punches. And defence against punches. This means you will be training punches far more than you would in any other martial art, and you'd also be well accustomed to the beating. The only art which is possibly better than boxing is thai boxing. You'll still be a much better boxer with boxing, but Thai boxing certainly rivals boxing for pain tolerance. But you'll find boxing gyms far more easier than Thai boxing gyms in the West.

@itskarl7575 There is way more than just boxing. Muay Thai, Karate, MMA, Judo, JKD, FMA. Since it's bare knuckle in the streets, obviously, any other martial art would have the upper hand because they train their hands bare knuckle. So it's way more sharp. We have more weapons than boxing. Unlike boxing, other martial arts know how to control the distance and know how to control the situation. I've seen it plenty of times before.
@itskarl7575
@itskarl7575 2 ай бұрын
@@Karate_Koa808 Are you saying boxers don't know how to control distance? And while it is true that boxers are at a higher risk of injuring their hands, simply because they hit harder, you still don't want to be on the receiving end. And the thing about MMA and judo is that they take the fight to the ground - which is a very bad idea if you're fighting more than one opponent.
@Karate_Koa808

@itskarl7575 Every street fight I've seen with an MMA or Judo fighter is that they don't bring it to the ground that slam them on the ground and back away. @carlpanzram7081 3 ай бұрын
It's essential. A boxer on the ground is ENTIRELY defenseless against anyone who has even the slightest ground fighting experience. It's over immediately. Same with the clinch. If someone who feels comfortable controlling their opponent in a clinch got you, and you have no experience there, you are done. You will eat knees to the body and get thrown to the ground. Same with kicks. If someone is comfortable throwing and checking kicks, and you arent? Done. A single kick will probably decide the fight. Boxing is actually arguably the least important martial art for self defense, because everyone can already inherently punch and defend against punches. However, nobody who hasn't explicitly trained it can handle grappling and kicking. It's something where, if you don't know what you are doing you are immediately in a ultimate disadvantage.

That's complete nonsese. Fight or flight or adrenal dump takes the body out of the parasympathetic state ( healing and rest) into sympathetic ( stress) Its an evolutionary mechanism that blocks out pain. Takes blood away from non vital functions into vital functions like muscles and vision and brain activity thus allowing you to protect yourself . Anything you train under relaxed conditions won't be available in a real threat. That flash boxing combo you learnt at the gym goes out the window. However... Anything that has been wired neuroplastically into your hardware and nervous system will automatically be available to you in fight or flight. If you are untrained person your automatic attacks from that state that your nervous system will allow could be wild punches, slaps 😂and eye gouges. Even biting. Some people's bodies releases too much adrenal dump and this is mistaken as fear. This causes the person to freeze instead of engage or to flee to survive and this is when it becomes dangerous. Judo is a great martial art because it negates or cancels out a striker and any overwhelm that they can produce with rough and vicious strikes. You close the gap and throw or roll the opponent down and finish them off with hard strikes on the ground. Judo and wrestling as a primary combined with boxing or muai Thai as a secondary is a great skill set to have.

I don't believe boxing to be a good sport for self defense. You'd want a sport with its rules as close to those of a street fight (namely none), and that would be MMA, which is usually taught as kickboxing/muaythai and bjj/wrestling I'd say Muai Thai has much looser rules and a heavier focus on clinch and elbows, and wrestling has much more focus on the takedown, which is obviously important in a fight that starts in a standing position. If you know muai Thai and wrestling, you are basically untouchable by a normal person your weight.

Everyone is saying "just offer them an ice cream". Well yeah, but sometimes you are caught in situations where that just isnt possible, or just wont work. For example, I was threatened by a guy wielding a 6 pack of yoghurts in a parking lot a few years back. It was completely unprovoked but I decided it was better to de-escalate the situation, so I offered him a couple of individual ice creams I was just about to eat. He literally laughed at me, opened up the trunk of his car to reveal 3 family size tubs of ice cream and said "dont need 'em buddy, dont need 'em". Still sends chills down my spine to this day.

Never fight in the streets unless you have no other option. Even if you absolutely annihilate the other guy, you just don’t know what he’s carrying or if he has other dudes with him. You are basically going in blind. If you can walk away, run. Running away doesn't mean you are a coward but smart.

Assuming you know 100% that your opponent has no gun or knife, or people Waiting to jump you, then boxing mixed in with wrestling or grappling is enough. But if you ain't got that 100% knowledge, just avoid a fight if it's possible. Very few things are worth dying over, hurt feelings ain't one of them
