ORIGINAL INFO: Anyone who opposes Bison shall be destroyed! Quick, everybody oppose him so we don’t have to read this junk.
RUMINATIONS: This episode is really a classic example of “If I’ve shown absolutely zero interest in it before, I probably am not the best choice to be talking about it.” As I said in the video, I barely know anything about Street Fighter, and that includes name pronunciation, storylines, or characters. I tried to do some brief research beforehand, but I had the storyline more in mind at the time rather than a fighting game that I barely (if ever) played as a kid. I probably still will review the other two issues, since I have them, but yeah, I got some backlash on this one - nothing hateful, just people who pointed out why everyone was so out of character and how it didn’t match up with their games counterpart.
And that’s equally why I shouldn’t be talking about it. The same goes for Sonic comics or other franchises that I’m just not into. I find that I make better jokes and have more material to work with if it’s something I’m considerably more familiar with it. Admittedly, that can also lead to videos that are more ranty as opposed to jokey, but it’s also more fun for me to work on and when I’m having more fun working on the video, it shows.
The storyline ending bit also made a few people tilt their heads, thinking that it would have been just fine if it had ended with the Absent Grimoire saying “I SEE YOU LINKARA” and not the cut back to me. However, I felt that it needed something more than just that. The secret messages in the credits had been going on for a month or two by then and we had already had multiple horror things throughout the storyline with shocking reveals and people being taken and just ending after the initial horror. It would have just been more of the same if that were the case. This ending showed that Linkara WAS fighting back, that he WAS doing something instead of just sitting there for a few minutes after receiving that message… which then leads us into the final Silent Hill reviews.

I think why people hate about this so much is how Ryu was turned from an honorable warrior struggling to keep his inner demon in check to a total jackass. And i cant blame them Ryu is not my fav character of the game (Juri rules all!) but it really hurts to see him like this, i can only imagine how Ryu fans felt.

is not a suprise, in the original man in black comic book (which incidentally it is not shit like the rest of the comics they did and it's more awsome then the movie) the protagonist, They do not use a device that erases memory. when there is a witness who saw everything, they kill or threaten like an asshole. which by the way is a realistic way to what would a government agency like the C.I.A. but the diference is the man in black is a good malibu comic.

Street Fighter 2 has...a narrative, but one subject to interpretation. Best version I've seen is a manga adaptation of Street Fighter II that creates a consistent narrative from all the little bios.

I'm finally getting back to the storyline...and I have to say this Entity stuff is genuinely scarier than most horror movies I've seen. It's so damn creepy. The gradual distortion to the credits during the last few episodes, that bit with the book. Kudos Linkara, I'm really enjoying this and fully regret not getting into the show sooner!

Honestly Lewis, variety is the spice of life. You're not going to be able to be a fan or have a huge ton of knowledge or insight on every single franchise that comes out but that shouldn't stop you from looking over the comics. Honestly stuff like this and the Sonic comics I appreciate seeing you get out of your comfort range and look at works you don't have the most intimate knowledge of and still pointing out why they don't work. Because you know honestly comics as a medium especially starts of series are suppose to be jumping on points for EVERYONE so if it doesn't work for you, then you'll do a good job of saying why that is. And honestly just like how you vary up stuff from Marvel, DC and independeant sources, also varying up not only the kinds of bad or worth to talk about comics but also your knowledge on the subject keeps things fresh so I don't have a problem with these that you aren't the most knoweldged on. Also I remember having a huge debate with some troll on youtube who did a "response" video on this that tried attacking you for this review and pointing out all of the failures of his argument and how he didn't even get why you reviewed this so yeah again that shouldn't stop you from reviewing man.

They....aren't. Okay 2V kind of eluded to maybe there MIGHT be something but that was squashed with Chun-li getting more squishy over Guile (who saved her ass a few times). But in every other form of media they're just friends and occasionally rivals. The only character in SF who has a thing for Ryu is Sakura.

I can't find any posting mentioning this, so I am sorry if this ends up being a repeat of something you've already talked about to death LInkara. The original SF had no story in-game, just a simple premise. Two palette swapped character beating up weirdos around the world. SF II had no story UNTIL one of the later iterations (can't say which one for sure) added the story in. It still had the same premise, just with a larger character roster, but had no story or motivations for the characters until much later in the game's "life-cycle" (there was a running joke at the time about SF II's ever expanding list of adjectives "Super Turbo Street Fighter II Alpha Hyper X" or something like that). I think that in the game manual there was a brief exposition about Bison organizing it, but THAT was about all the story we got. Up until SF 3 or 4, there hadn't actually been any real story in game, and you had to get everything from other media like the mangas, comics, animated movies, and so forth. So even though eventually SF got a story mode, MK beat it to the punch by having it included in the game. Now this might not be 100% accurate (it HAS been over 25 years since I last played SF2) So I do need add that little disclaimer. But your complaints about the comic are basically dead on, and could be levied about the game itself.

I love Street Fighter but the story is everywhere. You'd think V would be the last story wise, but while it is after IV, it is before III. Not to mention the weirder stuff like where Ryu and Akuma fought Asura the God of Wrath

the only good thing that came out of this comic is this review and the clips of raul julia as m. bison I say speaking as a fan of the game that in itself the game does not have the best plot of all but there is a plot, stories of characters who are in that tournament for great reasons and the writers really could not care less about working in this comic , the personalities are one-dimensional and really twisted and contrary to the originals of the game the heroes are interpreted here as insessible, assholes sexists, and jerks. ah and the artwork makes everybody look like they are made of candle wax

You should review/read the Udon comics, those are much better (much clearer focus on the plot). They (Viz, I think) released the entire SF2 manga in a traditional comic format (it's flipped and everything), and that was also really good.

Welp, I couldn't find any comments that really answered your question at around 4:20 (heh) so here goes. It's because techniques like the hadoken or sonic boon aren't actually that strange or unique in the street fighter universe. Yeah they're rare due the time and effort it takes to learn them, but with time any effort any could learn them. as for characters like Blanka or Bison who do rely on powers unique to them, it's because those powers aren't an unfair advantage when those techniques are also present. except for Vega, he's totally cheating.

Actually, Bison organized the tournament to recruit as well as incapacitate any possible threats...and find suitable host bodies. Street Fighter is much weirder than you think.

CruelestChris Yeah, but no. You're referring to our reality of how the story formulated which doesn't honestly apply. Street Fighter is a mish-mash of retroactive continuity rivaling the DCU, yes. But that doesn't change the actual story that has been set in place which is that Bison organized the tournament for the reasons already stated. This is established in the Alpha series of games (there was even a chunk in a book called "All About Capcom" that was used as the reference for Tiamat's infamous FAQ) that all take place before Street Fighter II (yes, despite being released years after) where Bison is the contest runner/financier...somehow. And that hasn't changed.

6:51 - "Now I'm going to eat a sandwich . . . made by Ryu!" What kind of sandwich? "Ham and cheese on . . . Ryu bread!" No, but seriously, this is not Ryu's character. I don't consider myself an expert on Street Fighter by any means, but my read on Ryu's personality is that he doesn't take any of his fights personally (though he does take them very seriously). His fight with Sagat wasn't some vendetta. Sagat was just one of the best fighters in the world and Ryu wanted to test himself against that. Winning or losing was totally irrelevant to him, he just wanted to see how well he would do. I think he actually had respect for Sagat at first. Respect that Sagat eventually lost when he revealed to Ryu that he was in it for the fame and the rematch he wanted in the tournament was simply because he wanted revenge, not because he had mutual respect for Ryu as a fighter. And they just keep piling it on. Ryu would never refuse a rematch with someone. The dude's extremely driven when it comes to perfecting his fighting skills. Also, where are they getting this "Ryu has romantic interests in Chun-Li" thing? The two never even met before the tournament. Chun-Li works for Interpol and Ryu's . . . well, he's basically just a guy who wanders around and fights people. If he wasn't friends with Ken Masters, he'd basically be the martial arts equivilent of a bum. And he's certainly not someone who's into sexual assault. He's absurdly respectful.

As much as I love this episode, Linkara, don't you think you could've read a little past the first panel before going on that rant about Street Fighter's story, and about whether or not the comic lacked one? I understand your confusion and agree with your opinions all the same, but don't you think you could've read a page more before going off on a tangent like that? Just saying; even the Angry Video Game Nerd played Street Fighter 2010 for a minute or so before going on for most of the review about what THAT game had to do with the rest of the series. (spoiler: Street Fighter 2010 had nothing to do with the other games in the series whatsoever.)

They got characters so wrong in this comic that it hurts to some one like me who knows how they are supposed to be. For example in games Ryu is pretty much battle obsessed martial arts hobo who travels around to world training and fighting anyone he can. My favorite character Chun-li is in games Interpol Agent who tries to bring Bison down within law rather than seeking straight up revenge unlike her dark counterpart Juri.

FaceUnreality There MIGHT be... but actually there was a three-part Hobbit comic made in the early-90s. I reviewed it last December if you want to check it out on my site. ^_^

FaceUnreality there's a comic or two based off of the game Futurecop L.A.P.D. if you count Manga and other non-us comic formats, then just about everything has at least one comic. Some, like Zoids and Gundam, even have multiple comics with different concepts behind them.
