The way I see it, Poison is whoever you want Poison to be. Because the character exists on so many spectrums, it's honestly up to the person how they perceive her. I see Poison as a female simply because that's how she was originally designed. However, that's just my take. Everyone is free to come to their own conclusion

I think the universe creates situations like these, so that humans get small opportunities to expand their consciousness. Some embrace what was left unspoken in the past, while some get to continue to keep their distance from unaccepted facets of reality

Weird that they took issue with Poison. Like, we're already fighting Chun Li, Cammy, Sakura, Makoto, and whoever else and America was like, "You finna punch her? Naaaaahh."

We might get a definitive answer if she makes it to SF6. They definitely arent shying away from different gender identities/expressions in this game.

Here's my take. We all dont fully know poison backstory and what was Capcom intentions at the time, theres stuff of Capcom saying she was intended to be a woman at the start and that she was changed because violence against women in gaming, and then theres stuff of poison being a transgender like the manual saying shes a newhalf and some of the dialogue in street fighter x Tekken. But the only things that came up about the whole situation was that her creator said on Twitter that shes a biological woman to him, the art book for street fighter x Tekken it said poison is a woman in Japan but transgender in America which they scrapped and later said shes whatever the fans want her to be. Which is a great idea because it makes everyone happy and no one has to fight. But to me shes a biological woman. (not transphobic)

This makes the most sense imo. The argument about "hitting a woman in a video game " made me question the logic behind Poison not being a biological female as Chun Li/Cammy etc exist.

@@Manesson well to be fair poison existed way before Cammy and Chun li did. So it was new at the time to hit female characters

Ig we will never truly know. I think I saw it in an article somewhere that Akiman sees Poison as a woman but others like Ono dont but then again ig its just a mystery, maybe one day we will know for sure.

The violence against women thing was actually a misinterpretation and she was designed to be trans in the Japanese release as well. She’s an early icon for queer gaming and I feel like the way the devs say “it’s up to you” is just dismissive and cowardly. They don’t want to lose their 14 year old incel audience who think trans women are a joke. I think they should make it official because they’re just twisting their own story at this point to appease those who think including representation in a game is a sign of the rapture.

One of the earliest beat em up games Double Dragon got Linda so women getting beat up in games existed before Final Fight.

I wonder the reasoning for differentiating whether she’s pre-op or post-op between Japan and the west. Granted, Japan is only just recently changing its laws on gender affirming healthcare, but it’s not like the west was all that trans accepting until recently anyhow. Anyhow, it’s funny how they turned the white knight sexism into borderline transphobia, and then just made it representation once it was socially acceptable enough. Now any weirdos complaining about too many genders in their games or whatever will have to look at her and try to call her a manly man lmao (or just deny canon like they deny science)

pre-op or post-op it means she is a transwoman now. and honestly even with the confusing and convoluted way she got here still a better one than Bridget of Guilty Gear.
