as a master ken (which isnt hard at all) i would say don't do this, its a bad habit that will 100% get you punished for it. how you deal with pressure in a lot of situations usually can be answered with a stand jab or standing short. so literally all someone has to do against you is just jab at any point you put pressure especially since you're a plat player. (not a diss) but don't take it from me lmao you will see why its not smart to go for "fake setups" (I don't wanna call it fake cuz in theory its a good mixup) because fake setups usually get stopped with a jab check

Hell yeah, man. I posted the full set, and going for this too much is asking for a hard time, especially when they know you're looking for it. Great comment, thank you!

Great vid, I found the tech lets me down when they're in the corner sometimes but it's a nice pressure tool that's very hard to punish. I liked how you turned the comment into content, now we know if they pass the knowledge check move on to the next shenanigan. My favourite is DR > Throw 🤣

I think it's good what you've done here it's showing of the process of creating your own mixup/setup Of course you could look up things on KZbin etc. but this what we did in the 90s when online search wasnt an option pls keep doing this it also helps you to learn a games mechanics faster

Sup bro I saw your tech the other day and I applied it in my gameplay. It definitely keeps you in. But just to add some more tech if you do crhp in to step kick and if they mash and trade with the step kick you can get another standing hp or cr hp follow up

If they mash a 4 frame it will trade in your favor

Sick counterplay, man. Thank you for the comment. This could be a video by itself. You're right. Cr.HP xx RunHK trades with 4f, leaving you PLUS 13... Thank you for "getting it," and thank you for the comment!

Thank you for the subscription and the comments! I'm working on mixing it in and using it as a surprise attack more and more, but I find that the rist tends to be worth the reward most of the time. Opponents have a harder time reacting to it than they think. A few easy ways to mix it up: Just throw HP and chill (block)... Throw HP followed by st.LK, then chill... Pretty simple alternate routes that don't make you commit to much and let your opponent hang themselves looking to punish something that's not there. Hope this helps, man. Thanks again!

Hey man. Master Rank Ken here. I’m not too confident in heavy Punch run hk. Obviously, I haven’t seen what you do otherwise. It’s not something I do. Run hk is decent when spaced so a 4frame won’t reach you. Building your offense around something unsafe isn’t a solid idea. You will run into an opponent who will punish it consistently, then what? Let’s say you do have your opponent respecting it. Heavy punch hk dragon lash is good. Lets you steal multiple turns. You will get stuffed or parried or DI’d sometimes. But It’s worth doing. (Plus your opponent will try to di meaning hp run hk will bait a di more often) Hp - wait to bait parry or di. Hp haduken to poke. Hp mk jinrai. Or hk jinrai if your opponent likes to od reversal after mk jinrai. Mix it up. Drive rush hp hk jinrai is pretty good too.

Hell yeah, man. This is just the kind of commentary I was looking for. Thank you. I posted the full set against the Honda player, and he demonstrates your point pretty well, for sure. I agree that this isn't tech to build around, but to be aware of and include if that kind of risk/reward is something you can work with.

honda players arent particularly known for their punishment skills. truthfully any character could do their 4 frame jab and drive rush or special cancel it into moderate damage or maybe even a level 3. mental stack is really strong in this game and even if something is bad on paper doesnt mean it never works against good players. if its one trick you can sprinkle onto your gameplan and it works sometimes then go for it. i like a little party in my playstyle. also consider this sequence... any normal cancel from neutral into light or medium jinrai and confirm the heavy follow up for a knockdown. you go into run and meaty them with a manually timed run heavy kick to hit them even backrolling. i like to do this instead of confirming light buttons into DP always.

As a member of the FGC from the beginning, I can say there's a really unhealthy edge to the community where a lot of discourse gets stifled by people getting dismissed out of hand for not being a certain rank, or a regular major top-8 contender or whatever, to say nothing of people keeping their tech to themselves because they anticipate being dismissed out of hand in advance for NOT being in one of those categories. It makes me wonder how much good, potentially game-changing tech has been lost over the years because it wasn't coming from the "right" source or wasn't being showcased on a big enough stage. That's what I like about this set between RooK and Grimydawg, it went into a lobby and they labbed it out, and now we have this video for Ken players to make of what they will. We need so much more of this.

It’s funny how people tell you not to do this lol I’m not sure why every option has to be a safe option. Part of the game is taking risk and doing things that are not always safe. That is like telling someone not to drive impact because it can always be drive impacted back lol

Tbh, its not wise to use that setup too much. It really is very easily punishable even for diamond or plat players, SF6 has input buffers, so its not a 1 frame execution for a 4 frame move to punish a -4 situation. Iirc, its about 3frames since the game hold the inputs for 2 additional frames. I have no idea about that Honda player, maybe its lag or he is just a scrub spamming headbutt and buttslam all the way to master rank. But trust me, most good players knows to and will consistently punish a blocked step kick that is too close. In fact, perfect parrying Honda's headbutt is even harder than punishing Ken's step kick. You'd have more success abusing Honda headbutt than Ken's stepkick. That said, its not a bad setup either. Because Ken has no real frame traps without using Drive rush since all his normals are minus with the exception of c.mp being 0. Players knowledgeable about Ken's frame data know to take their turn back after blocking Ken's s.hp. But you still have to condition them to press a button after block your s.hp, only then would that setup be useful(but still risky). If you are just spamming it, then that setup is literally trash as you are just constantly putting yourself in -4 situation. I think a safer setup would probably be to go into Jinrai kicks or dragonlash kick from s.hp.

I really appreciate you taking the time to add this to the discussion. I agree with you that this is something to be careful with. If you really try to make this your only way in, you'll hit an early ceiling, for sure. I've still been able to catch people out with this, though, and it definitely seems like people are more ready since the video dropped. One good way to set it up is to just do st.HP into nothing, just to see what they do, then see if you can punish that. Another nasty trick is to use cr.HP xx run HK if they like to jab while you're running in. This will cause a trade, which you can then easily confirm with another HP. Pretty crazy.
@skychaos87
@skychaos87 Жыл бұрын
@@RooK_X8 I think the idea is to play more reactionary and lower risk moves. These setups can work because most people doesn't expect ken to have a frame trap off a s.hp or c.hp. But since its -4 its always unsafe and its dependent on the opponent pressing a button or not its basically a gamble play. That is why such setups cannot be a staple strategy in your fighting game progression. Its safer to use in lower leagues since most players don't know the frame data well enough or have the proper reaction to punish. At higher level it may not be a good setup to use too often, it can actually be powerful to use occasionally especially when you've conditioned your opponent to press a button after s.hp. Like when you do s.hp into dragon lash, the common counter is to press jab after blocking the s.hp and it will interrupt the dragonlash. If you do that s.hp into dragon lash string often to condition them to jab after your s.hp then your s.hp xx stepkick frame trap would be the perfect counter. But nonetheless, use it sparingly. Its not a core strategy or setup that will consistently help you win games.
