Love this video, and really liked your comments about the D700. I ised to live in Dublin, my office was on Baggot Street Lower, and I believe I recognized many of the streets that appeared in the video.

thomas fitzgerald I lived in Malahide, I would take the Luas (did I remember that name correctly?) to Pearse Street station, and I would walk from there. There was a park I would pass that had a statue of Oscar Wilde in it. BTW, your b&w processing of the images in this video was lovely. So of my best street work was in Dublin and the surrounding areas.

Hi Thomas! I grew up in Ireland (co. Louth) and I have not been home since 1999, so it was great to see images, as seen by a fellow photographer, of the city. Grafton Street looks a lot like it did the last time I was home. I also have and love my D700. I like to watch videos like this to remind me of what a great camera it really is. I also have a D7100 and it’s another grand old tank of a camera. Looking forward to more of your work. Happy 2019!

Good stuff. D700s are so cheap now, cost me as much as the 50mm lens LOL - but I love the images, wasn't sure I would, but really surprised me how good they look on the 5k iMac. Oh and hope you made it thru Klaus's flu!

This was a long time ago now, but I think it was probably single point AF - with focus and recompose technique. But like I said, this was a long time ago when I made this video.

Oh man, your photos are just superb! I don't have a D700, but I bought a D3 and I couldn't find any material on youtube, but as far as I know, both the D3 and the D700 have the same sensor, right? The colours are super vibrant and detailed. Love your video :)

Yes, the D700 was basically the D3 without the grip and a few other things, but the sensors are the same as far as I know

Even with nowadays technologies, professionals and enthusiasts keep looking at these cameras bc of its superb build quality and the breathtaking results it gives ❤ I haven't had time for going out to the streets and take some photos with my D3. Can't wait for it ')

thanks for the effort and the sharing. i use my D700 w/50/1.8D roaming the streets on New York City. i really like the optical viewfinder. with your 50/1.4, are you wide open or do you keep to a steady F stop? thumbs up.

it depends on what I'm shooting. I generally stop down to 2.0 as it's a little sharper and the bokeh is still fairly good. If I want more in focus I'll stop down to f/4 or so

What do you think it lacks compared to modern cameras but only in terms of image quality, I am not talking about conveniences such as smaller bodies, touch screens... Just pure image quality, does it suffer much compared to nowadays mirrorless or is it still good enough?

It still has a very good image, but there are some noticeable differences. apart from the resolution (this is only 12mp) - which can be an issue if you want to get larger prints made, the thing I notice the most is dynamic range. You can see a significant improvement in dynamic range in newer cameras, and not just on paper - its very clear when you shoot with something like a D810 or a D850 in certain circumstances. I shot them in colour - as in set to colour in camera - and converted the raw files to black and white in post.

I’ve never noticed particularly slow autofocus. It’s always been snappy for me. Depends on the lens. What lenses are you using?

I can use the left dial with my left hand to change the settings without taking my eye from the viewfinder, although I don`t change these settings so often during a shooting, once set, done - I own my D700 since early 2009 :)

Did you crop the shots? Images look stunning but I heard if you crop your pictures with the d700 the pixel count starts to show the more you crop.

Sophia Higa-Cruz there’s no or very little cropping on the majority of these. Some may be straightened slightly but no cropping. You can get away with a degree of cropping on the d700 anyway, but obviously not as much. As with a higher megapixel camera. It also depends on the destination. If it’s just for Instagram or online you’ll be able to crop more than if you want to print for example.
