one time , i hopped on 80 in vacaville headed back to vallejo in my m5 and a corvette came FLYING by and i thought he was trying to race me so i took off and we were both doin like 170+ all the way through fairfield and i was probably a mile out front before slowing down. I looked back and realized he was running from the boys. literally 20+ squad cars and the helicopter pulled up and i pulled over literally AT the weigh station and none of the cops stopped so i causally got back on and cruised home laughing /embarassed. guy made it all the way to oakland and smacked into the barrier for the 880/980 interchange. it was on the news but no footage of my car lol.

CHP policy prohibits officers from passing ANY vehicle on the right with lights and sirens on. They are required to be to the left of the vehicle with lights and sirens if they passing. If they are to the right of a vehicle, they gotta disengage their lights and sirens. As for the back lights, those are cleared to always be on. It’s also for a sense of safety. At those speeds, people tend to move to the right when they see lights and sirens, it can safer and smoother for an officer to not have lights on and maneuver through traffic who is oblivious to their presence rather than have them on and attempt to maneuver amongst traffic while the traffic is reacting to their presence. It’s CA, we got a lot of laws and policies for our officers. Hope this helped answer your question. 👍🏼
