Street Track Failures: Episode 52 - Beijing

It's time for our first (and as it turns out only) look at the Superleague Formula category in this series. However, with this Chinese street circuit, did they score an absolute belter, or howler....... (I'm desperately trying to use football terminology in this).

You need an extra visor to see through the smog on this track. That is a thick soup, made even worse by the grey concrete walls.

That final chicane is insanely quick, I love it. Turns 3-4 are an almost exact copy of the Ascari chicane but in reverse.

You know, the narrowness of that track section almost seems vindicated these days considering the both Baku City Circuit (which was even Grade 1) and the Seoul Formula E circuit exist or existed.

Speaking of Chinese Street Circuits. The BRP GT series ran on street Circuit backbin the 90s

The narrow part is, well, very narrow, but I think we've seen worse in this series. Not in straight but def in corners and chicanes. Heck, FE has some corners that look like they're made to cause crashes.

That final chicane looks awesome at that speed! I was wondering about the poor visibility in some of the clips, was it foggy or were there super low flying clouds? Still hoping for the 90th episode special on 90 degree corners btw! Lol

I would like to make a case for the Birmingham street circuit in the UK for this series, a late 80s early 90s track that hosted lower formula and one BTCC race.

I remember this. This track also sprung to mind when they somehow approved of Baku getting a grade I license with that narrow section. I can only assume it’s because of the slow speed nature compared to driving flat out over the bridge here.
