I love the SOR sountracks as well, but you should check out the SOR remake game for PC as the music is fantastic on it as well, sadly Bomberman never released the final version due to a copyright claim from SEGA, and as such makes finding a download a bit harder these days, but still worth tracking down. I extracted the music from SOR Remake, and keep it on my phone for when I'm in a 90's mood, and walking the dog in the evening time lol!

I have both versions. Major complaint is that on CD version there is some FPS drops because some delay into reading the CD. Cartridge reads are almost realtime. MD version for me.

The SegaCD version is nostalgic for me, because that is the version that I had when I was young. I still have it now (though any SegaCD gaming that I do now is via emulation) but I also have the Streets of Rage Vintage collection on XBox Live so I have options.

Eu joguei esse game primeiro na versão de sega cd, quando vi pela primeira vez a do sega genesis fiquei absolutamente horrorizado com as vozes bizarras. Mas vendo os dois assim lado a lado, da pra concluir que a grande diferença fica apenas nas vozes. it must just be pure nostalgia, but I just prefer to hear the crunchy, machine-like grunts from the original. strike 2 for "sega classics" on Sega/Mega-CD of this game (the other being the blatant removal of the Golden Axe grunts and death sounds that were recorded from movies with generic samples). thanks for covering this!

They didn't change anything in streets of rage for this but for golden axe the music is alot higher quality and the graphics got a bit of a shine of colors and details are better on the Sega CD

The Sega CD has new voice effects for characters when attacking or they are killed, and more characters can fill up the screen without slowdown due to the Sega CD's greater processing power whereas the Genesis suffers a good deal of slowdown when more enemies fill up the screen.

Sadly in certain fascets, he has a point. The Sega CD wasn't much of a step up from the Genesis as in spite of the increased processing speed, CD-quality sound, and added scaling and rotation, the system otherwise retained much of the Genesis' regular graphic capabilities. This made the playing of FMVs on the system look horrendous as the system was underpowered in being able to properly render them. Also as many developers were new at learning how to work with CD technology at the time, a number of games were not much different from their Genesis counterparts beyond updating music and sound to be CD quality and adding in FMVs. In addition, some were foolish in thinking FMV games were the future of gaming in spite of the limited player interactivity this provided to gamers. Granted the system has its high points like Sonic CD, Eternal Champions, and the Lunar RPG series that learn how to better effectively work with the CD technology and the Sega CD's limitations. But at the same time, the system was otherwise a bit too ambitious with the technical limitations and lack of foresight that many had with learning how to use the technology during that time.

Marcos Paulo Magalhães Concordo com você meu amigo em relação ao jogo não ter trazido nenhuma melhoria significativa em relação ao cartucho, não sei por quanto foi vendido o jogo na época mas se ele foi vendido por um preço menor que o cartucho poderia valer a pena para quem já tinha o Sega CD, por outro lado ninguém iria comprar esse acessório por esse jogo, mas não concordo com você em relação a Sega pois o Sega CD tem ótimos jogos exclusivos e também ótimos portes, já em relação ao Sega 32X não posso dizer o mesmo pois esse deve ter meia dúzia de jogos que vale a pena. Even growing up, I acknowledged the low fidelity voice samples. We also owned other platforms with better sample channels, after all. Nostalgia doesn't improve the sample rate folks :p And arcade games of the time had a lot more memory for samples, they sounded better. Nonetheless, what a beauty of a game, and Koshiro's brilliance shines. Also give credit to his programmer friend for helping to make the sound driver for SoR.

I played this game first in the sega cd version, when I first saw sega genesis I was absolutely horrified by the bizarre voices. But seeing them both side by side, it turns out that the big difference lies only in the voices. So for practicality and best cost benefit without doubt the sega genesis version is better deal. It was a lot of work to set up the sega cd.

The Sega CD version is SUBLIME because not only did it not fuck with the glorious soundtrack by making "CD arrangements!" and screwing with the original, but it also fixed one of the MD's biggest drawbacks; abominable voice samples. Only the most ardent of the diehard Sega fanboys tries to defend the awful voice sampling in practically every single MD title. Voices and, often but not always, sound effects were really poor and it was such a shame. The Sega CD version fixes that delightfully! Same glorious music, same gorgeous visuals, but with *vastly* superior voices --- and no slowdown either :D

The voices on the Mega drive sound raspy as if the characters smoked most of their lives whilst the Sega CD the girl fighter sounds pleasant. The characters also look a tad bit darker and smoother on the Sega CD but basically identical and not much of a noticeable difference.

Only difference between the 2 is the voice samples. Genesis / Mega Drive wins on that one, though. Sega / Mega CD’s port, while in higher quality, just doesn’t have the same impact the original has. They sound, erm, odd here... 😕
