I needed this, my brother died unexpectedly on the 20th of May, I can see the difference in my body, I went one complete night with zero sleep, I haven't slept well at all since it happened. His kids hated him and us and pretty much everyone, so they wouldn't cooperate or communicate. We had to wait a certain number of days before we had the right to do anything with his body, cremation is the only choice bc of cost. I feel so empty without him here. This is the worst pain I've ever felt aside from when my dad passed 20 years ago, but at least we knew that was coming. I can't sit on the ground here, it's nothing but red dirt and weeds and stickers, definitely not conducive to going barefoot, ants everywhere. The neighborhood we live in isn't walkable and I have my mom in a nursing home to take care of and I would never be able to tell her that her son is gone, she's been through enough. I have to find a way to go on. Yes, I absolutely pray.

I lost my only sibling in November and my Mom three years ago. It’s been hard, rough, and I feel empty. I haven’t exercised since November. I’m doing my best with my eating. Two things that have helped me: 1. Dreaming of my family and dreaming of hugging and crying with my Mom; 2. Grounding by touching trees, plants and talking with them when I’m on a walk. Your feet or butt doesn’t have to touch the ground in order to “ground.”

If you are trapped in the sympathetic nervous system, one thing that we learned in CBT for people with extreme cptsd or PTSD, Is a facial cold water bath. So just get a large bowl, a large mixing bowl is excellent, something large enough that you can dip your entire face in. Fill it with cold water and put a couple ice cubes in there. But even just super cold water. You can put a gallon of water in the fridge and then use that. You slow down your breathing with some long deep breaths through your nose and then you bend over so that you are at a 90° angle. Put your face in the water and hold your breath for at least a minute. Sometimes you have to work up to it and might have to take several plunges before you can hold your head underwater for a full minute. The cold water, the holding the breath, and the lowering of the heart to waist level trigger the mammalian parasympathetic nervous system response. It will actually force your body to switch from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system immediately. When people had panic attacks they would have us do this and it's crazy how much it works.

Thanks for writing this. I have always hated cold water, even when I loved playing in the snow. As I was reading what you wrote I had a flashback. Now I understand why I hate cold water. [Don’t feel bad for stimulating the PTSD; I’ve dealt with it long enough I know how to turn flashbacks into healing. So I’m truly glad you wrote this, even though I couldn’t read it all. To me cold water immersion of anything but my ankles when walking the Gulf of Mexico, is horrible!]

I have been in trauma mode since I was 11 years old. I've been working on it my whole life, nothing changed it. I didn't really know that nothing changed it. Recently I went to see an acupuncturist. He has changed my life. He reset my nervous system! The world is a new place to me. I'm calm and relaxed, even though I still have stresses. I could never keep weight off. I lost it and it would come back. I now feel completely free of food and that it's just a thing that has no power over me. Stress is a real problem and barrier to losing weight. Thanks for this video Kelly

I was a river guide for 10 year in class 4-5 rapids. It is so tramatic when you fall out of the boat. I will never forget my mentor throwing me out of the boat saying “if you can’t swim it you shouldn’t run it”. I never flipped a boat and after 10 years I only had 5 unintended swimmers. It is definitely an event you won’t forget. Thank you for this video. Stress and trauma effect us way more than we realize.

thank you for this Kelly. Good timing. I cracked my head open a month ago ( 2 brain bleeds, concussion and a fractured skull). I am not dramatic, so I wasn't dealing with the trauma for the first 3 weeks, I was in a fog and slept all the time. When it hit me what happened to me, it hit hard. I was depressed, traumatized and can't sleep well. I lost my sense of smell, hearing in one ear, I'm dizzy and I haven't done my daily 1 hr. walks since the accident. You are encouraging me to get back out there and get back into my routine!

Oh my goodness! This is so random, but do you mind me asking how it happened? We just took my family to stay in a cabin on a lake and while we were there my son lost control coming down the STEEEEEP driveway and hit his head on the porch... he was in bad shape, had to get staples in his head... he had no idea where he was or what had happened. So scary!! Good for you wanting to get back on track again. ❤️ I hope you're on the mend!!

@@emilymyers I'm sorry to hear about your son. He is going to need care and patience. which I know you're giving him. Actually my carnivore diet contributed to my accident. I was coming up on my 90th day of STRICT elimination diet and attending an out of town wedding. I did not prepare well and did not have access to my kind of food so I didn't eat but drank coffee (for two days as I was busy helping and getting ready). When the wedding was over, I woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom in my hotel room and next thing I knew I woke up , my head was on the tile floor in a puddle of blood. What I learned from my experience is that it is ok to eat food that is not on my diet. It's more important to nourish my body. I ended up eating garbage food in the hospital because that's all they offer!!! I pray your son heals well, know that it really takes time. God bless

As a believer, I know that you know that nothing happens without a reason and God’s permissive will allows events to occur which He will use for His glory. In this one video you have answered many by people’s questions on so many fronts. Us veterans, the newbies and hopefully those who are thinking about a Proper Human Diet. Proper nutrient dense food is the base of our pyramid, sleep and physical movement are layers but stress reduction is a pivotal lever in the success of using these tools to optimize health. I’m saving this video to introduce everyone who is interested in life style changes to improve their health. Sadly too many succumb to the inertia of convenience foods or brainwashed “heart healthy” foods. Stress is often the reason they eat poorly. Your track record as a recovering food addict is an inspiration and keeps me motivated when naysayers keep piping up saying that you must eat ‘healthy’ carbs, you are stressing your body by being low carb… Sally K Norton’s protocol to recover from oxalate poisoning is a rare exception and I feel the others are all oxalate poisoned and unaware. Obviously, your previous Twinkie diet did NOT oxalate poison you. 😂 You, Sally and Dr Berry are my role models on my journey to optimum health. Thank you. God bless you for this timely and inspiring video. You were listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Bless you and your family. You are on my list already to pray for His protection and provision. God provides.

I can attest to this. Stress is very hard to manage. I have a teenager who is making some bad decisions and it's really stressful. Sleep on the weekends is almost non existent because I keep checking my phone, and when he finally walks in after partying, life is really not fun. I notice right away that my stomach starts doing all these weird things and I realized a lot of my issues with that are stress related, which is why eating beef only isn't always the trick for digestion. I'm praying this time passes and we all come out better for it but in the meantime, phew, I'm white knuckling it. And surprise, surprise, I'm not losing any weight either.

Kelly, I walk on the beach every morning, barefoot, in the very soft (tough to walk in) white Sarasota sand, then along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico in water up to my mid-shin, in the sun and wind. 1 1/2 hours later I swim laps for 1/3 mile in the pool, in the warmth of the Sarasota sun. When I’m not doing laps I work with aqua-dumbells and/or do HIIT in the water (jogging alternating with easier leg work), and on some days I do a lot of balance work standing on a very thick noodle in the pool. I then luxuriate in the sun to get plenty of Vitamin D. Around 2:00 I eat 1/2 to 1# of Ground Chuck w butter then rest with leisure activity (usually sudoku, cryptograms, French and Spanish lessons, etc). After 5 p.m. I walk in the grocery store even if there’s nothing to buy, just so I get enough steps in. I am 75 y o and have been doing low carb, then keto, then carnivore (usually beef and butter, with bacon and also eggs 2-3 days/week) and have discovered what foods cause me pain or in some other way impair my mobility (most of them). I lost 70# when on Keto 3 yrs ago, and got rid of psoriasis which had existed for 25 yrs. But that was only 1/2 the excess weight. I’ve since healed very many conditions and dispensed of meds and supplements, but cannot excise any more fat no matter how hard I try. I’m a long time meditator. I’ve had tons of therapy over the years (w psychologists and MSWs). I live in the Florida climate because of arthritis, but after 10 years here I want to move back up north to be near my son. I can tolerate the cold now; it does not create and/or intensify the arthritic pain. As a retired Occupational Therapist, I created a therapy plan to do all I could to get off the double canes I’d needed 7 years ago, and to do all the things I’ve learned to do to care for my mental health as well as physical health . BUT I’m still not losing those last 70#. I’m tired of that not happening, because it makes me lethargic, is impeding my strength tremendously, and I’m unable to stand without pain for more than 15-20 minutes!! I recently learned about lipedema, which I understand slows the weight loss, but after 6 months of carnivore something’s gotta give. Sorry for the rampage. I just keep going to videos that tell me that cortisol and poor sleep may be my nemesis - I guess your video was my last straw - but I’ve done all the recommended things that I am physically capable of doing. If I could get on the floor I’d do yoga, but I cannot, and chair yoga doesn’t help. The only thing that relaxes me are the beach walks, pool activity, and lymph massages that I do twice/day (so lovely). I’m so frustrated, but I’m not a quitter, and I’ve come too far to quit carnivore now.

Hi, just an idea: I left New Mexico (sun) to be near my kids in Seattle (often grey). Very quickly, my “Washington depression” returned. (I lived here for 30 years in the past, and struggled a LOT with depression.). So I probably won’t be staying long here, as special as it is in many ways. IDK if your son is in a sunny place; it’s just something to consider.

Such a helpful reminder! I have been struggling so much to lose fat recently, no matter how hard i keto, how much i drop my calories, how much i exercise, weight would not budge. Since I flared up with an illness, my body looks inflamed and puffy, sleep has been terrible, and mood not great. So yeah, no wonder my body is holding onto weight and not priortizing releasing it. Also, stressing about the lack of losing weight will indeed do the opposite of what you want. Once again, good reminder to help your body feel safe first before addressing other things.

I broke my Tibia next to my ankle last year and I believe that my Carnivore life style and my grounding accelerated my healing process. I would suggest spot grounding for your hubbies injury, that's what I did for my tibia break and was out of the boot and released to normal activities in 4 weeks. You can use grounding patches directly on the foot for as much time as possible. Not bad for a 69 year old.

OMG Kelly, glad you and the fam are okay! I almost died rafting years back. The Thompson River here in BC is no joke and i was reluctant to go. I was on the 3rd raft out of a rafting group of 11 - 8 ppl per raft. On the 3rd rapid our raft was lifted bow first completely over. I was sitting at the back and wasn't thrown out like most of the ppl, the raft crashed down on me. Seconds later I felt the force of a monster pulling me down deeper and deeper all the while spinning (undertow). I was under for about 8-10 seconds only to resurface back under the raft. Few seconds later we hit another rapid - this one was massive and the whole ordeal repeated but only for longer. Not sure how I survived but I did. My eyes were completely blood shot from blood vessels broken by the pressures of being pulled under. The entire group pulled to the river shore after to regroup and tend to those injured by the capsize. 3 ppl were so traumitized that they opted to climb the canyon walls back up to the freeway where the company would pick them up. I too was a mess for weeks. Replaying the sounds and thoughts in my head as I thought I would never resurface. No more rafting for this carnivore lol

Emotional and physical trauma can affect us in so many ways. Stress is a killer and often a slow killer. I had a really bad fall the other day and I was shocked how my body reacted. I had to sit, close my eyes and keep breathing deeply. I’ve had both emotional and physical trauma and they’re both difficult. I agree-get somewhere quiet, preferably outside, get off the phones, sit in the sun. PRAY. These small things help me but my faith in Jesus and praying are the lifeline in all the seasons of my life. Great video, Kelly, and really helpful advice. ✨

Another TBI two years ago and this one shoved me solidly into the Sympathetic to where multiple organs are now dysfunctioning, worst of all random soaring heart rate at any given moment and of course digestion is a wreck. Carnivore for 11 months and have gained five pounds . After many years of this and doing ALL THE THINGS, I am scheduled for SGB (Stellate Ganglion Block) on June 13, which will reset my nervous system. This moment cannot come soon enough and I cannot waiting to see how my body improves!! So happy to hear all the things you did to reset yours quickly, from a single short event. Also huge fan of box breathing to fall sleep. I do: breathe in for count of 4, pause for 4, out for 4, pause for 4. It stops all the thoughts!

Yes, it was bad, yes, you got hurt, yes, it was scary,...... but it could have been much worse, .....it also can be preventing you from getting in a worse situation later. Seeing good coming from a bad situation has really helped me lower my stress around the trauma, adding in all the things you have talked about and my body starts working better.

Hey, Kelly, this video made me cry! It is the most down to earth explanation of the cycles of our bodies and demonstrates such kindness in your actions, words, advice! Thank you so much. I have dieted since teen years. Am now mid 50s. No diet ever worked for me. Since the last 15 years, even though I cut back on all food intake and continued my life long habit of exercise and being in nature, I have gained 30 kilos and not been able to take off a gram. My sleep has been terrible for many years and stress levels super high due to many tragic circumstances. I remember back when I had covid, i couldn't eat anything and only lost 4 kilos but gained them all back the first meal I could finally eat after weeks of not eating. So what you say about sleep and stress, that's got to be it. My body just holds onto every gram/ounce and won't let go. I have only recently begun to see how my 'self talk' has been keeping me under even more stress, day and night, even if my outer circumstances are not so terrible any more. I have been trying to change this consciously and also allow myself more rest. Thank you for your kind supporting advice and may God continue to bless your work and all the people you help with it! As always, thank you for reminding us you're human too!! LOL. Yesterday, I thought my 16 yr cat Peanut had gotten outside. She's never been outside in her life. For about 30 mins we searched every inch of the house and outside. During this, my body had a severe stress reaction (avoiding TMI) taking me away from searching for her about 10 mins. When she mysteriously appeared in our living room, I broke down crying and lashed out at my dear husband, all not common ways of being for me. I took some time to rest and knew what was happening. Apologized to my dear husband, gave Peanut some extra loving and then spent an hour on my porch playing in the dirt planting flowers. :) I ended up sleeping until 9 am today! I never to that. Stress, stress, stress. Keep listening to your body and give it what it needs when your amigdala goes hairwire. I've dubbed my amigdala "Amy" years ago, so when Amy gets in the way I've been known to give her a piece of my, well, mind, lol. God bless and have a beautiful week ahead.

Thank you, Kelly. This was a great n=1 testimony of the power of stress. I live in that state of chronic stress. I knew this stuff in my head, but something about your story hit my gut. OH!

Adding 20-40 hours of work every week every weekend for around 80-100 hour totals has 100% caused me to put on some weight. Could barely tell you if it messed up my normal sleep because I haven't had much of that. Chronic stress has been my life for a couple of months. Two more weeks and I should be good. These big projects are trying to kill me. This was very timely for me. I've gained more than 2lbs but like you I've read all of Jason's books and know it's temporary.

Bless your heart! I live in the Nantahala “community “ and I understand your “spill” down the river. My stressful situation is taking care of elderly parents. Thank you for your stress relieving tips. I’m new to your channel and new to carnivore just since May 1st. Things are going great with my new lifestyle. (Many years post gastric bypass- do not recommend by the way) Lost 15 lbs so far and feeling so much better. (Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue) Prayers for your healing! Side note : I got out before the falls.. I chickened out myself 😂😂 You’re braver than me 😊

Thank you for making this video, Kelly! I’m thanking God you & James are ok & growing from the trauma to the praise of His glory. Psalm 4:8 sprang to mind while listening to you - “I will both lie down in peace & sleep for You alone oh Lord make me dwell in safety.” ❤

Well thank goodness you’re both “ok” and I’m so grateful you used this to help the rest of us. Holy moly this education hits home. I’ve served in a war, had toxin exposures, had 3 spine surgeries after trauma, busted my neck, got long COVID, 3 surgeries after breast cancer and wonder why I’m not my 40 year old self after a few months of carnivore!! I better save this to listen a few times. Thanks Kelly. I’m not patient with my health.

I am saving this video to watch every morning. Thank you so much for this Kelly! God will never allow us to go through something that we can’t handle but like I have always said, he has way more faith in us than we do ourselves. I think he allowed that rafting incident to happen to you to help all of us. Your kindness and compassion for us shines through in everything and I am so grateful for you. For me, I never get anything more than about 6 minutes of deep sleep at night but I’ve been so stressed about it and making sure I am eating the right amount and moving enough and stressing about my lack of bm’s and work and everything else that maybe I just need a break from it all. Not maybe, I do. Thank you so much for this! I feel like you just gave me permission to give myself a break. Haha. I am going to take it.

So glad you're fine, Kelly💗once I fell off a raft in high rapid water and my boss, who was teaching me, as soon as he made sure I was fine and we got to low water, he, in his wisdom, said, "ok, now get back out there." And I'm so thankful he did that because I could have developed a life-long phobia of water, and he knew that. God bless you and your beautiful family 💗

Funny how subjects show up when I need them. Late February and early April I lost two dear family members. People who gave me personally real support in my life and I’ve been so messed up. I’ve also gained 8 lbs. I’ll try continuing the breathing and grounding, but this week I started taking Ashwagandha because it is supposed to lower my cortisol and I couldn’t do it with breathing. This has seriously affected my mental health and the Ashwagandha seems to have given me a stop gap so hopefully I’ll be able to be more successful with natural methods and recover my settled mind. Thanks for sharing Kelly!

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly!! Thank you sooo much for making this video!! I've been under so much stress for the past two years due to a certain life situation that just fell into my lap and that is when my weight loss stopped. I have been Keto for 5 years but Carnivore since January 1st of this year and my body just won't release the fat no matter what I do. I have seen some NSVs since 19 days in but no real weight loss to speak of. I kept saying it has to be stress and you described me to a T in your video! No one ever explained the sympathetic or parasympathetic systems to me the way you have. Now I need to apply these principles and tell my body that it's ok!! Thank you so much for all you do. I am wanting to take your coaching class soon! Much love to you and hope you and your husband are healed soon! ❤️ ❤ I hope you get back out there on a raft!

Wow! What an informative video. I don’t think of my life as stressful but I guess it is. My sleep scores are awful! Usually in the 70% range. Rarely do I ever get above 50 minutes of deep sleep. Probably why my body is so slow at healing. So glad you are recovering!!!

This video was so helpful! I’ve experienced lots of grief over the last 8 years with both of my parents dying, managing their estate, family chaos and now my husband was let go of his job and my teenager is learning how to drive! It’s been so stressful to drive with him and I have not been able to figure out why. I’ve done grief counseling and NET both with great results. I might have more to process and let go of❤ I need to be adding the grounding, morning sunshine and that breathe work to my daily routine! Great ideas 🎉
