I looked at a completely normal geography video and found this one. It was one of the best videos I've seen in a long time

Hey guys, from what I've learned you also need to use a first layer of PVA type sizing glue on the raw canvas so the oil doesn't seep through. I made that mistake many years ago when I just put 2 layers of gesso and now those painting have oil coming through to the backs of the canvas. They may not last very long but I learned my lesson on priming canvas. Thanks for the channel!

if your using keys, why are you stapling corners together? it doesn't allow the stretcher to move, so how are the keys going to do any good in stretching the canvas? which is the main purpose. second, where is your sizing? history shows painters used rabbit skin glue to seal the canvas, also protecting the canvas from rot and acidity of the oil when painting. it aslo prevents the oil from sinking into the canvas which can cause cracking and flacking. i understand its optional for acrylic, but if you're doing a bunch at a time, and paint with oils and acrylics, how to tell which does and doesn't have size unless you label every one.

I think what’s happening is that the canvas bars are being stretched by extremely subtle amounts. Any significant shift may stress the canvas too much and knock the frame out of solid ratio, so the few staples are there to keep shape with juuust enough wiggle room to allow fine tuning.
