I love Har Nof ! I studied in Neve Yerushalayim (a Jewish girls' school there) for a summer, lovely experience! There are lots of British Jews living in Har Nof.

Most Holocaust survivors that I have ever met have been secular or atheist. His telling of why he lost his religion reminds me of those in the Israeli army who lose their religion after having served in the forefront of war and possibly experienced great trauma from their experience.

That will indeed be quite a thing to see. It is amazing how important a faithful adherence to principle can be to people. There will be those who set aside their principles and those of stronger moral fiber who who stand for what they believe in the midst of any situation.

G-d does love all people. 'Chosen People' does not mean 'superior people'. 'Chosen' means 'selected' - the Jewish people were selected by G-d to observe the Torah and fulfil its commandments. Sort out your ignorance before speaking rubbish.

One's political beliefs do not define whether one is or is not a "real Jew".

Well. The Vilna Goan did say that before the times of Moshiach, Eretz HaKodesh will be governed by epikorsim. Take a look at Sanhedrin 98a. This states that Moshiach won't come until all political power ceases from the Jewish people. Just because everything is min hashomayim, doesn't mean that the secularists acted according to G-d's will. Read Kesubos 111 where you will see that having a state before Moshiach is forbidden.

We don't believe a person has to be Jewish to be good. Anyone can choose to convert to Judaism, but it's not necessary. We don't proselytize because of the above statement.

And I wonder why some believe that we have to wait for Mashiach to make aliyah. Wasn't Theodor Herzl or David ben-Gurion the Moshe of our day?

Just because we have a history in the land doesn't mean we're allowed to be there and establish our own state. G-d sent us into exile for a reason, and it will be by His Hand that we'll be returned. As it says throughout the Books of the Prophets. The Zionist state isn't a Jewish state. It was a state created by Zionists, for Zionists, and is run by Zionists. The raison d'être of Palestinian terror groups is Zionism in the first place.

I guess it depends on how far you're willing to go - and how patient you are. I tend to wait until the traders are about to leave for synagogue erev Succoth and get mine then. A set of lulav and etrog might have gone for $ 200 earlier in the week, but on the eve of Succoth they might be gotten for as little as $10!

You are catering to a Christian definition. Chosen is an expression of humility towards G-d. Being chosen begins with choosing. Not being chosen gives you the ability to choose. As a Jew, I choose to follow the commandments. People can choose to remain unchosen: To remain who they are. They can remain free of the responsibilities of Judaism, by not being Jewish. Everyone has their own responsibilities and privileges. Birth is a testimony: It does not imply that we are better than others.

First: You don't get to define who is and who isn't a 'real' Jew. Second: G-d gave us the land, and it is the land that is holy, so most likely going against the land (somehow) would probably be going against G-d. Not supporting whatever state is on it has nothing to do with the land. Third: Torah tells us that we're not to have a state before the Messiah comes. Kesubos 111. Sanhedrin 98. So it would go against G-d TO support the heretical Zionist state.

Herzl and ben-Gurion were far from the Moishe Rabbeinu of our day. Herzl and ben-Gurion were rasha'im. People believe we have to wait for Moshiach to have a state because that is what Torah says.

Not at all. Even when my Dad's family became Crypto Jews, e.g., my great-great-granddad Julian Czernecki (z'l) made $5,000 a year with a wife and eight living children (one of whom was born in May) for whom to provide in 1920 (And he owned 203, 205, and 207 Freed Street in Sugar Notch because he had taken on the Polish custom of having houses to pass down to his sons--Great-Granddad would own 203 by 1934--and he was born on a Lipsk nad Biebrza farm.). $555.56 per person per yer is scant.

Even many centuries before that, there existed the Statute of Kalisz - basically making it a Jewish state with its own jurisdiction INSIDE of Poland. Poland had religious freedom back then and was extremely anti-pope. So Jews had a good life. Religious fundamentalism was non-existent; ben-Gurion and all the original Zionist were non-religious, but culturally Jewish atheists/secularists. As an Israeli rock band once sang: "The Messiah won't come, he won't even call!" ;) lol

(2) We can see that it is G-d's hand that refounded Israel simply because everything comes from G-d. We can see how G-d has brought about the worsening of conditions there, maybe for the worst of the worst who need the most redemption in the holiest place possible? They are choosing their end now or doing Tshuvah. Think how holy their souls must be in the first place how far they must have fallen for G-d to give them the honor of refounding Israel. Don't ever hug the enemies of the Jewish people

no but the fact that they are not religious does! and supporting the existence of the state of "Israel" goes against the Torah so Israeli supporter = not Jewish at best ,anti Semite at worst.

Oh יעקב חיים בן אברהם אבינו‎ You are not accurate. You claimed "This states that Moshiach won't come until all political power ceases from the Jewish people" But look at what it says. Hint-it doesn't say "from". San.. 98A says "R. Hama b. Hanina said: The son of David will not come until even the pettiest kingdom ceases [to have power] over Israel,13 as it is written, He shall both cut off the sprigs14 with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches;15 and this is followed by, in that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts of a people that is scattered and peeled"

Look at the original language, and not a translation. It says מישראל. Meaning, 'from Yisroel'. It was written 2,000 years ago. Sure not referring to the State of Israel. Up until 1948, 'Israel' was used only to refer to the Jewish people. Come back to me when you can speak Babylonian Aramaic and you know how to learn gemureh before acting like you know everything.

***** yes I know it's likely referring to Am Yisrael(nation of israel) rather than Eretz Yisrael(land of israel) not that that matters... . You make an interesting point about "Mi", maybe soncino got their translation wrong. i've never seen it translated as "over".. As you say, "from" .. And that's how i've always seen Mi translated. So, good point. It also says on that page R. Johanan said: When you see a generation ever dwindling, hope for him [the Messiah], as it is written, And the afflicted people thou wilt save" If it turns out the messiah doesn't come for another 2000 years it'd mean Judaism is a pretty horrendous religion condemns Jews to live like second class citizens for eternity. Always ruled by others.. A minority. Granted jews shouldn't have any petty kingdom according to that.. How about this.. Kiddushin 76B "R. Adda b. Ahabah's host was a proselyte, and he and R. Bibi were at variance, each claiming, I must carry on the administration of the town. So they went before R. Joseph. Said he to them, We learn it: One from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee:21 all appointments22 which thou makest must be only from the midst of thy brethren." Doesn't that mean Jews should not be ruled over by gentiles? or that if rulers are gentiles then Judaism says Jews shouldn't be allowed to vote?

If the Jews read the Torah and the prophecies in Isaiah and Micah, they would know the Messiah already came 2000 years ago. He was born in Bethlehem. The Prophet Isaiah says "For unto us a child is born, a Son is given, ...he shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The Almighty God, The Prince of Peace, The Everlasting Father." Put 2 and 2 together and you have Jesus Christ. The Jews are suppose to be a light to the gentiles. Shalom :)

No where have I hugged the enemies of the Jewish people? Being against heresy (the state) doesn't mean we're all of a sudden pro-Palestine. Just as the beis haminim starts with its forced religious persecution of the ultra-Orthodox, the state comes under threat from Syrian missiles. When it first started talking about gezeiras shamed, Amud Anan occurred. There is no such thing as 'coincidence'.
