George Fowler I think it would take some limiting. I don't think its the best idea because that would be the only white source. but if you make the deck more energy heavy then you could pull one of the dual lands for aether hub and be able to splash other white sources

Always watch all of your deck techs Dev. You do the best job out of anyone ive watched. The B/G snake tech was cool, but Glint Sleeve is one of the strongest cards to play right now. Snake needs cards if/when something goes wrong, Sleeve is about the only thing that get you there. Believe me, Ive tried it all.

There are 2 things I might add in here: Hope of Ghirapur and DEFINITELY 4x Supernatural Stamina. HoG is a 1/1 flyer for 1 generic that disrupts TONS of decks right now (if they don't waste removal on it). The short case for Stamina is that you can HoG them over and over with the SAME Thopter Legend, effectively killing control very dead. The long case? They Fumigate and you SS your Verdurous back onto the field, RETRIGGERING his ability (because nothing says "flubbed boardwipe" quite like suddenly staring down an 8/8 with trample). They kill a Manglehorn and you just bring him back, possibly even targeting ANOTHER artifact they have (had). They kill ANYTHING and you snark at their face and completely ignore it FOR 1 MANA. It's a "counter target spell that target's a creature (almost)" for B. Oh, and it's a +2 as a combat trick, so you can squeeze extra damage out of it whenever you want. Supernatural Stamina may well be the best thing my Pauper deck was given since Vault Skirge and Hunger of the Howlpack. Seriously good card, and I would NEVER play Blossoming over Stamina because of the retriggering of ETB potential, even if Hexproof is slightly better overall.

Also, I'm REALLY considering Trial of Ambition and some Cartouches. Not perfect, true, but who even cares when you can totally bypass Indestructible? Trial of Strength is weaker, but it'd fit in just as well. The weakness here is that the B/G Cartouches are CMC3 and not too amazing, but at the same time NEITHER one is terrible. +1/+1, some effect, some combat ability, AND recasting Trial of Ambition? Heck, Fight is practically removal in a deck where you are SURE you've got the bigger beatstick, and -1/-1 counters can do things (I guess, but the Lifelink is where it's at).

Been playing this deck since March and have seen a lot of success with various energy builds including 4 FNM wins, multiple FNM top finishes, and a game day 2nd place finish, haven't been able to play as much as I'd like due to work. Tried a different build last night by replacing the cub with Sylvan Advocate and it changed the game play quite a bit. Sylvan is harder for some decks to remove and puts, what I feel, more immediate pressure on the opponent as I feel the cub is too easy of a target and doesn't generate its own energy unless it deals combat damage to a player, which against some decks, is extremely difficult. Sylvan also pumps any animate lands which creates a dual threat for games that lag out while Tireless tracker gets draw power along with NIssa, Voice of Zendikar, if the game goes on too long.

A guy at my LGS played a deck that is almost exactly this. It performed incredibly well. He was the only person at the event that could beat my Esper Zombie deck. The main difference was he ran Glintsleeve Siphoner instead of the Tireless Trackers.

Been playing an extended version of this deck for a while and it's a lot of fun. Although I found that it can empty its hand pretty quickly. Did you consider lifecrafters bestiary? It's such a good card in this deck especially in the more grindy match ups and if you have Riskar out you can easily tap a creature to give you card advantage.

Aetherborn Marauder and Drana have some great synergy too. Deal damage with Drana and put more counters on constrictor. Play marauder and take them off second main and make a huge flying lifelink.

I love Snek. My only worry is that if a opponent puts -1/-1 counters on my creatures that Snek adds another one, but the -1/-1 decks seem likely to be a bit slower than this.

Duncan Ellis i don't think -1/-1 decks will even be a thing. There's only a few cards that use -1/-1 counters that have even a slight chance to show up in standard.

I wonder if the -1/-1 counters deck is actually waiting for some cards in the next set. (or maybe 'we' just haven't found the right deck for it yet; which might be the case as since Cat/Combo is gone, a lot of decks seem viable and there are so many cards in standard 7sets)... 'but' my guess is that it just needs some pieces yet to come out, and (so: +) maybe rotation to happen... Main 'problem' the deck seems to have is creatures that actually want -1/-1 counters, or prefers to die (of which there is only that 4 mana demon right now) ... and while there are pay off's for creatures to die (zulaport in black and scavenger in green), there are upsides to -1/-1 counters (Hepatra and Scarab enchantment), there are very few cards that want to die with upside (basically 2 zombies, the festering one, and the one in the Black Planeswalker deck, and the pre-mentioned demon). There are also ways to get Hepatra through (Skeleton Key or key to the city come to mind). So you get something like: 4x Festering Mummy (B) 1/1 -> on death place -1/-1 counter 2-4x Planeswalker deck Mummy (1)(B) 1/2 -> on death opponents loose 2L 3-4x Hepatra (G)(B) 2/2 4x Exemplar of Strength (1)(G) 4/4 ... 3x -1/-1 4x Zulaport Cutthroat or Scavenger (1)(B) or (1)(G) (or split) 1/1 4x Defiant Greatmaw (2)(G) 4/5 ... 2x -1/-1 (?x maybe the demon that wants to die? (3)(B) 4/5 ) 2-4x Scarab Feast (2)(B) 4x Skeleton Key (1)->(2) / Key to the city (2) 4x Splendid Agony (2)(B) ... all the removal in the world here ... Guess that would work as a deck, you place -1/-1 counters on the mummy's preferably (or on opponents creatures if you can) those die with a benefit and trigger zulaport or scavenger, and the -1/-1's trigger Hepatra and Scarab Feast, those give new targets to place -1/-1 counters on (to die for the triggers of zulaport or scavenger), and allow you to play 4/4 or 4/5 for 2 or 3 mana (or 4 if you put in the demon also) ... the keys make sure Hepatra or any other damage comes through. Looks like a fun deck to play, surely needs some testing, and not to sure it can stand up against the power of tier 1 standard.

Rishkar's mana ability works with creatures that have minus counters as well as plus counters. Maybe ditch the snake and add a bunch of creatures that enter with minus counters and then ramp out Ulamog. In theory it could be faster than marvel while still creating board presence.

Why does everyone only think Winding Constrictor cares about +1/+1 counters on creatures? It works with any counters on your Creatures and Artifacts. If you have a Constrictor out, Pyramid of the Pantheon is actually a Gilded Lotus that takes a 2 turns to turn on. Edifice of Authority would be great in a more controlly build too. Also, no Endless One? Benefits from both Constrictor and Rishkar.

Also thoughts on Implement of Ferocity? 1G for a counter and drawing a card seems good in this deck. Could be handy for pumping the Constrictor up out of Sweltering Suns etc range (and into beatdown range).

Chilly Jack I mean...people dont probably think that but pyramid of the pantheon is still not great. Lets see. You drop pyramid t1 and snake t2. On t3 You will play a 2drop having two brick counters. On t4 a 3drop, 4 brick. Then you have 8 mana at t5 but thats already on the top of the curve and deck usually doesnt need that. Maybe you'll play two spells on t5 and then dont use it for the rest of the game. Thats probably not worth weakening your plays at t3 n 4. And thats just the best scenario.

And I didn't mean Pyramid of the Pantheon would be good for this particular deck, just that it's good with Constrictor in general. I'm interested in that too, but I've actually been going more weenie/exert/always watching. It actually started as a G/W deck, focused on vigilance. Last standard, before the Cat took over, I was playing a G/W Vigilance Stitcher's Graft deck. You should see the beatdowns that you can have with an Aerial Responder with a Stitcher's Graft attached. Now with Glory-Bound initiate, and Sacred Cat to add to the Lone Rider and Aerial Responder, this deck could be a force. Losing green means I am losing Blossoming Defense, so perhaps I will stay G/W. It's honestly so much fun.

Maverick Thopterist is crazy and easily playable on turn 3 with some cheap artifacts out. There's a UR Improvise deck that's like tier 3 that plays a four-of Maverick Thopterist (and a 4-of Whirler Virtuoso or sometimes Pia Nalaar because of course)

Same here. Been tinkering with a Engima Drake/Soul-Scar build that has a lot of fun combat tricks. Not really competitive so far, but fun to play and when it goes off, it feels soooo good.... Swing with Enigma and Soul-Scar with four instants in the graveyard (mostly from cycling and maybe a removal), they play removal, counter it with Negate--suddenly both Enigma and Soul-Scar are bigger and after blockers are declared, play some Shocks to the face and all the sudden you have a 4/5 Soul-Scar and a 7/4 flying Drake after the opponent just took 4 to the face. It doesn't always go off, but when it does, it feels sooooooo good!
