I love this deck. I won standard showdown with this deck twice in a row. It is very fun..I just added hostage taker and tried scarab God. I still have one scarab God in sideboard but hostage taker to our own dagger to lock them out of swinging is hilarious.

Oh, I bet that the modern version of this deck is fun. Hunted Phantasm is pretty much a one-shot, plus you have access to chord of calling and passable ramp.

I like the idea of kitesail freebooter because even if they have to kill it to bring their guys back, they still take a beating from all the enter the battlefield triggers. Even if this does give them back a hazorat or a scarab god, they will still take a beating of 8 damage. You could also use it as a leverage blocker if you have them at a low life: if they attack you, all you have to do is block to win the game

So crazy that it may work XD Under ideal circumstances it's T2 land Curse T3 land Ferocidon or Curse T4 land Panharmonicon T5 Dagger = 16 damage, which are lethal against any non-control deck in 99% of the cases =) Perhaps I'd play Lightning strike against Abrade (at least in main) just to have the option to burn the opponent by additional 3 damage when needed, for the rest a very nice deck. I'm gonna try it at the next FNM^^

I really like this deck, just hits with the south paw. I made a more aggro version by adding Slither blade, Bone Picker Insult/Injury and Angrath Marauder, when the triggers happen they can annihilate for 16 loss of life instead of just 8, very funny:P

Esper Dagger actually works better, and is a little more consistent. Currently 45-12 with it. Still tweaking SB, but getting there. RamRed is toughest match-up, but still on the winning side for it. -MGO

Depends on the matchup but i prefer Vraska's since I run up against so much aggro and hazoret is so popular. Im running BR treasures and even have battle at the bridge in because it saves me in aggro matchups and kills gods.

Contempt hits walkers, disintegration doesnt. It depends on your local meta and if you need to kill walkers. Contempt is an answer to gideon of trials. You could even run 2 contempt and 4 disintegration. Removal is nice so long as it has targets. If you really like a deck don't be afraid to play around with it. Make it your own and build on it. I tried uw approach. I noticed I used engulf the shore as a panic button. I then tried to abuse engulf with torrential gearhulk and made the monstrosity that was mono blue engulf. One of my favorite standard decks. I found a list I liked and found ways to tinker with it until it evolved into its own new thing. Add in the contemps and see where that leads you

blue is the best colour imho - glint-nest crane, sirens ruse, hostage taker, vizier of many faces and are sweet with a deck like this and they don't have to rely on the artifacts, simply an added bonus! i do agree with champion of wits being taken out though. turn 7 is too slow and if you trigger dowsing dagger to give them plants they can just leave it on the battle field without killing it.

Thanks Dev, been playing around with this concept for a week or two now since Seth uploaded about it. I have found that the red was a little to inconsistent as saheeli dies to easily (for one copy of a trigger) and rampaging ferocidon is a big hit to take to stop life link trigger of trespassers curse. Panharmonicon + Hostage Taker must be really fun. Are you still able to combo kill without being able to copy any of your combo pieces? Do you find Prophetic Prism a worthwhile replacement for Treasure Map?

the synergy is incredible with hostage taker/panharmonicon/siren's ruse! use hostage taker to pick up either their creatures/artifacts or better still a dowsing dagger or prophetic prism! who wants to kill hostage taker with a dowsing dagger in exile with combo pieces out? :) Prophetic prism is the key card in the deck, with panharmonicon out your draw multiple cards. With hostage taker you can then exile prophetic prism and cast it again. and in game two use it to splash with for fragmentize to get your stuff back from cast out etc treasure map is too slow.

Not really. What's your win condition? Getting artifacts out to pump up the Plunderers? If you want to do things like that, you need to look at the treasure-focused lists. Plunderers is a pretty lackluster card already, but it works far better if you've got stuff like Tezzeret, Revel in Riches, etc. If you want to win with artifacts and treasures, then the best card is probably going to be Marionette Master - every time you crack off a treasure, you Bolt the enemy. Red in this deck is kind of a bust. You have Burning Sun's Avatar *way* above curve, unless you start cracking treasures (and reducing the usefulness of your Plunderers) and you've got Trove. Making the enemy attack you each turn isn't always a bad thing, but there are better ways to get an artifact each turn (Tezz). Heck, even Lannery Storm would work for that - she's basically a pre-equipped Prying Blade.

First off, you forgot about the Aether Hubs. Secondly, there are three main ways of winning: 1. Revel in Riches to win. 2. Ramp the hell out of Plunderers. 3. Deal large amounts of damage by stealing high powered foes from the opponent with Hostage Taker. I don't mean for it to go to Pro Tour. I was just thinking it would be a fun deck to play, and was really asking if it was worth it as a fun deck.

I see brews like this hit $100 and just kinda shake my head. With that kind of money, you could probably build a much better tiered deck. I feel the pain - I put together $260 worth of cardboard (admittedly, had some of it already) for a Tribal Merfolk deck from here or Goldfish (one of them) and it just got wrecked. If I go to FNMs in my area, it's nothing but a bunch of PTQ-Wannabes showing up to collect their packs and "pay off" their decks. I don't mean to down anyone or any channels (srsly: LOVE sbmtg) but I see the plays of these decks or hear how successful they are, and it feels somewhat disingenuous. "This deck took Top 4 in a recent Standard League" Where? At your local library, against 3 other people? Or they show us recorded games and I have to wonder how many flops they recorded before they got that nut draw or their opponent played a $Tier$ deck badly or unluckily, and they can claim that they beat Ramunap Red or Temur Energy with their silly budget jank build. Every blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. But people go throw money at these decks - especially the folks playing Budget because they can't fathom spending $450 on Grixis Control, and in the end, they have $450 worth of DECKS and not a win to their name.

Spending money on top tier decks doesn't technically make you a better player. If you don't know how to pilot your deck, then expect more losses than wins. It's easy to slap a $250 deck together but what good does it do you if you don't know how to combo off of or not miss triggers. The people who say that they can beat ramunup red decks with jank are probably not kidding since they know the in and outs of their own deck

No, a pricey deck doesn't instantly make you better - but it's a whole lot easier to win a race with a Ferrari than a donkey cart. There's a reason that we haven't seen Merfolk or 'Dagger Burn' or the likes placing in competitive MTG; they just don't have the chops.
