This is the first Doom engine game I have played. Tried it on the hardest difficulty. Beat it (despite the respawning inquisitors). It was a blast. Then I played it again on the second highest difficulty (without responding enemies) and it was even more fun. I am a newcomer to the game and I don't understand why it isn't more widely loved.

This looks much easier when you know where the fk to go. I remember beating this game (lies, I had to use cheats for the final boss cuz he is bullshit incarnate) and the most difficult part was knowing where the go. Also didn't help that my English at that time was pretty shitty

One of my fave mods for monsters/enemies is mk champions for gzdoom (and it's kinda old and not perfect too), mostly giving any monsters random new abilities, fun with the gun bonsai mod too, to balance it abit.

The debris from the destroyed bridge before Entity's Lair can be climbed down for some surgery packs and medikits. As long as you do not save in the Entity's room you should be able to go there. I know, dumb that it is a secret...

What is also strange is that they give you FOUR energy packs before the final boss room. Like that is going to do anything... Strife has a lot of these oddities that implied a much bigger and different game in some places.

Let's see, steath is invalidated by robots always seeing you, it's entirely too easy to softlock yourself, most weapons either burn through ammo or have odd risks in using them, one of your first quests kills you, and YOUR WEAPONS START OUT INNACURATE AS FUCK At least you can actually get ammo in this mod

Veteran Edition fixes some of those issues, the part on the robots is bullshit tho, when i was going to get the mauler (Bailey), there was this annoying fucker always firing at me, and if i hurt him, those stupid acolytes on the side would beat the shit outta me, weapons are pretty weird too, like the mauler, your super bfg shotty has 800 ammo with the Flamethrower, but it uses 20, so that shit uses a fuck ton of ammo. Didnt notice the innacuracy, maybe it was fixed idk

I don't think I've ever heard of something called "doom builder 2", but as demonstrated by a KZbinr by the name of pdxbla ( www.youtube.com/@pdxbla ), with his Doom 1 and 2 playthroughs ( kzbin.info/aero/PLsWfNu4HzHMsLIJvSqZt_4HVrAF9ssxSq&si=V98UZ58BqLZmm9X1 and kzbin.info/aero/PLsWfNu4HzHMvUdV17YOoMy1jVkPUAhDqm&si=XTQ0svDecGICjwZM ) using randomized enemies from the Realm 667 beastiary I believe (and as also demonstrated by the popular Project Brutality mod, which can replace enemies with higher-tiered enemies to provide increased difficulty), it is possible to design a mod using Slade (yes, I'm aware that you stated that you don't want to use Slade, but personally, that's what I'm familiar with when it comes to modding Doom engine games) that replaces monsters with actors that despawn themselves and spawn a random monster from their own monster pools. However, in order to port the enemies from Strife to Doom directly, assuming you're using GZDoom to run your Doom engine games (which already comes with programming to run Doom, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife assets smoothly, BUT doesn't come with any sprites, sounds, textures, music, or maps due to legal reasons, thus still necessitating the need to own your own copies of your Doom engine games), you'd need to load Doom or Doom 2 as your IWAD for GZDoom, followed by Strife as a PWAD, then Doom or Doom 2 as your PWAD after Strife, so that whatever Strife overrides is overridden back by loading Doom or Doom 2 a second time. Even then, the result can still be a bit buggy, so some knowledge on how to copy, paste, and move assets from any .wad/.pk3 files to others, and perhaps a bit of basic programming knowledge, may still be necessary to get things to work like you would've wanted them to. @@ShadowWolfTJCokay thanks Hey there, I finally got access to Slade. I literally left doom for 2 years because I couldn't use slade but now that I can it's so much more fun. I have made like a dozen of custom monsters and the fact I can look through the code to fix any bugs other monsters might have is perfect. So yeah, now, tell me appropriately how I would put the strife monsters in doom. I plan to put their assets in my own wad to make them compatible, with their own ids and such.

@@thetruenoobgod Ironically, I haven't touched Doom and Slade in months, and unfortunately, I've never dabbled into any level design for Doom using Slade (or anything else), so you may already be in a better position to add the monsters yourself to whatever levels you want to than I would've been. From what I've recently observed from Slade, if you double-click on one of the maps (such as, say, E1M1 from DOOM.WAD), or if you go to Archives on the top-left of the Slade application screen, then select Map Editor, it'll prepare to launch Slade's map editor. There, you can edit the level layout of the map, including the "things" present, such as enemies, items, decorations, etc. Assuming that you've already figured out how to add in your own "things" to your own .wad projects, such as Strife enemies for example, I've also observed that you can manually edit the thing's type (which is what the thing specifically is, such as an Imp, a player spawn, a shotgun, etc.), even to one that's normally undefined within a Doom engine game. (For example, Type 3001 corresponds to an Imp in Doom 1 and 2, but in Heretic, it's undefined.) Oh, and if you're looking for some more help on editing Doom engine game assets, try this: zdoom.org/wiki/Main_Page
