I was in a UK Infantry Reserve Battalion. In the regulars they get you fit. In reserves you had to turn up fit to pass selection. And then improve on that fitness largely in your own time. That takes a lot of motivation.

Well respected and professional soldiers in the world. This is my opinion as an American soldier. I have trained with them in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks and PTA. Reserves or Regular Soldiers all professional through and through. I thank them for the Poncho or Basha they gave me. Excellent piece of equipment and cherish this because after 31 years plus it still works and keep it in my truck for my emergency gear. I also see that they jump with the American MC-1 Bravo parachute. Very good parachute, I love jumping them because of the toggle controls instead of riser controls.

When the commandos were first formed there were army & marine commandos, after ww2 the army disbanded its commando units, however members of the British army are still entitled to wear the green beret if they pass the commando course. Major Mac Grant (later Brigadier), along with 3 others trained with the Royal Marine Commando in the UK. Grant and Hutcheson were awarded their green beret by the Royal Marines, having successfuly completed their course. Maj Anderson was killed during training. When it came to 1 and 2 Commando wearing the sherwood green beret the RM was asked. They agreed that the two Australian Commando companies could wear them, with their own badge. The Dagger and Boomerang badge was designed by Mac and suggestions from both companies. Every recipient of that beret, regular and reserve, earns it by completing the training. Every one of them that I know still has theirs, a bit moth eaten, but cared for.
