This is a great video. Great editing, no unnecessary music, raw big boys’ fishing.

I'm not a boat/ahi guy but hearing Mark and Garret break down the plan for the day, the layout of the spread, the fish fighting tactics, the way the fish should be gaffed, pulled on board, cooled and gutted etc, made me feel like I was part of the crew. Could tell that Mark was a little out of his element but he's a quick learner! Awesome educational edit.

When the gorilla ahi are running like we get on the big isle in Hilo and other places, its a whole different fish! Those 250- nearly 300 pound ahi are awesome! Big yellows just fight so hard it's amazing!! Trolling is a rush especially multiple strikes! But ika shibi fishing at night drifting on the chute is really my favorite!! Did it commercialy for 25+ years! Often by myself!! I loved doing it at night in the 80's when Pu' u O' o vent at kilauea was going off regularly and pullimg up huge gorilla ahi on the rope while lava is fountaining up to 2,000 ft and the orange laba flows are glowing in the pitch block night as they come down the slopes towards the sea!!!! Off kalapana it was so awesome!!! Those were special years back then, but unfortunately Royal gardens then kalapana were both overrun by lava flows. Kalapana pretty much completely disappeared! Lots of my friends lost their homes. I watched the whole thing starting around 82' when maunaloa, kilauea and then Pu"u O'o alll went off erupting at the same time! That was the start of 20 years straight of eruptions but what a view at night offshore while ika shibi fishing!! Just in awe of Pele and the power and energy on that side of the island back then! D.L.
