🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

My favourite movie when i was 8 or 9 was MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, a story about a boy who befriended a Peregrine falcon. It was typical hokey Disney shmaltz, but i have to this day wanted to learn falconry because of that movie. Thank you for sharing!💋😎💋

So awesome to watch Striker’s growing up. I had the pleasure of seeing my first peregrine a couple days ago in a tree right by my house. Looked out the kitchen window and thought omg what is that?! Identification took awhile but when I finally saw peregrine images I was certain of it. Thrilling and an exciting add to my “life list.” Thanks for all you do, Martin and Sue ❤️

I have been watching some of your content off and on for a while. I was not attracted to the lack of affection you showed to these animals as you treated them. It took me a bit of time to think of the difference between myself dropping in for 30 minutes and You who does this for 8 hours a day all week. Once I quit judging you and looked at the reality of your job it was evident real quick you are spot on. Now I dropped in 2 weeks ago and heard you call one a name and it really caught my attention. I watch a lot of Animal Videos favoring the Eagle Cams and any of them showing the raising of Babies. I must say I have enjoyed watching you teach us in real time how to care for and integrate into our Families a Wild Bird of Prey in a safe and pleasant way. The total opposite of my first impression of your methods. Note: Those Baby Barn Owles are the nastiest, ugliest, and downright evil birds I have ever seen and you give them equal quality of care as the rest. Good Job Sir.

In the course of the video, his feathers changed a lot. Suggestion, if possible, could your head camera be on the same side as Striker? We only get glimpses of him at the current angle.

Also, I don't like how caps or hoods are used ( for centuries ) on birds of prey are completely blacked- out. They should be slightly screened to remove most light but not all. It's just a courtesy as if I were in same situation I'd want to see a vague silhouette of my surrounding area. Think if we were blindfolded to every location? It's more therapeutic if the hood allowed a little light to keep visional overstimulation low.
