Can't say enough about this scene. Having struggled with my own demons on and off again for 15 years, the scene means so much to me. The song is the perfect backdrop to the scene. He is a guy coming out of a dark place in his life - down on himself and depressed. He wakes up to a new mindset and is now determined to move forward and go after his dreams and stand up for himself and the ones he loves. It is on his terms now. He's not trying to please everyone else, leaving his own desires to the decisions and opinions of others. It's my life and I will live it how I see fit. If you don't like it, you don't have to be in it.

There is something "real" about using this song in this scene. Its much more than a training montage, its showing two flawed guys trying to move in the right direction but with small steps on a long road. Anthony Kiedis and John Frusciante from the Chili Peppers both had massive problems with addiction in their pasts and that is felt in the music, this makes it particularly poignant when looking at Bale's charachter. It makes me wonder who the title of the film "the Fighter" is refering to.
@carriesplaylists4anyoccasion3 жыл бұрын
OK, wow! You took it a step further and I can’t stand having to admit that that’s something I’ve never actually thought about. Who exactly is the fighter? You have definitely unlocked the key to the title here! Both of them are fighters but in the sense that the title means it I have a feeling it is Bale’s character that the title of the film refers to. And I know, I agree with ya...it’s the best scene /song Union, it’s very inspiring for anyone who’s ever felt like they needed to fight for themselves. it gives me chills every single time I see the movie...yea, this is something special. Crazy how some people see it/ feel it, and others feel nothing?

I love the scene where he goes in the gym after Dickey gets out and puts everyone in their place. Then Dickey goes to the drug house and on the way there has a change of heart and convinces himself to not go back to his old habits.
