We use those big flutter spoons in early fall and burn them across the surface. You can also add a 1/2-3/4oz bell sinker onto the split ring next to the hook and make them sink faster. I like the tungsten bell sinkers cause they are smaller by weight and add some clack to the spoon. Awesome video buddy

I learned a valued lesson it's better to have a skill an maybe just maybe not need it then to need this skill an not have it.

Best thing I can suggest is if issues with electronics is one cast per spot. Mix up retrieve speeds an pauses an occasional erratic action to artifical lures. Good luck brother stay safe God bless 😊👍🙏🙏🙏

If you were to fish the bridge do you think there are more fish kn the pilings or on the rock piles
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS4 жыл бұрын
Pilings can be deadly when there is current, excellent ambush points, but rocks are great too when they hold crabs and baitfish.

I was beginning to question my strategy of fishing shallow. Here in Maryland, I've only been catching small juveniles. Nothing anywhere near the 19 inch limit. This video let me know I am still correct to fish shallow (that's where the bait fish are). Thanks for the vindication.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! And even over deep water I catch bigger fish higher in the water column. Those 50-60lbers came just below the surface. Fish where the EASY meals are found. It’s hard for a Striper to chase an adult Bunker in 50ft of open water, but it’s much easier in 5ft. Of course, time of day and time of year matter. Mid day might be very slow in the shallows, but evenings may be insane.
@hookdup19274 жыл бұрын
I listen to your advice about fishing shallow . All I’ve been catching is dogfish. I think it might be either A night bite only or there is not A big body of migratory fish in my area yet which happens to be the Fire Island inlet ny area.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS4 жыл бұрын
We mostly fish late afternoon- evenings when the fish start to move up shallow, mid day can be very slow sometimes, but if there are fish in town they will move up as the sun goes down.

I always keep a popper and BKD ready for breaking fish mainly. If we fish a big shallow flat like this I will cast randomly on top, but most fish come from seeing them break.
