Been tempted to get a pair of Red Wings too. Good, well made boot, quite affordable. Think I'd be tempted to put a dainite sole on it afterwards though maybe. I don't think they woudl have a shank in them because they're designed with a wedge sole in min.design

I never liked MOC design, and I thought the cream/white crispy sole looked trashy quickly. Then I found a pair 2nd hand, and tried them. The crispy sole is like the skate shoe of boots. Very comftable on concrete, urban streets etc, and the MOC design gives such good room for the toes. Now I own 2 pair, and I love them, and I kinda like/respect the design now 😅😅

The Moc toe Redwings and others with a wedge sole are not fitted with shanks. All their other Goodyear welted boots have a metal shank. Other cobblers have noted when resoling them that the gemmings often become loose.

I have the Redwing Moctoe Roughneck model that comes with a commando sole, and that one also has a shank. Not sure of the material of it though, steel I believe.

Yes, we also see this on English shoes, but usually, when they are over worn, as in constantly worn and never left to rest, dry out and breathe....two pairs last three times as long.
