Cheaney all day for me, I really find the leather is of a better grade compared to Trickys!

Can we have more of these questionable repair choices where the repair is soooo much better than the original please Antony?!! Maybe a separate video of yours and Paul's 'favourite' shoe/boot/ slipper horror stories (with Paul's succinct opinions thrown in)?! ;-)

I was, honestly, laughing for the full first 5 mins genuinely thinking it was a New Years Prank Video you were doing for a laugh. I then realised it was a serious repair - I'd have loved to have been in the shop when they were brought in just to see the look on Pauls face 😂😂 Being serious, though, they gonna last a lot longer with that sole on - and a bit more grip for the 'Bedroom Athletics' 😉

I went down half a size as Tricker's recommends, but on my right foot (which is not my biggest foot!) my toes seem to touch the sides, in particular the 4th toe (which is quite short!). Unfortunate that they have no stockists in my country and since I wore them to the grocery store, no returns. I am left hundreds in the red and with no shoes to wear. D'oh!
@shoehealer88532 күн бұрын
That’s unusual, but it is so difficult even when armed with all the information, there is no substitute for trying them on, I have shoes in all sorts of different sizes.

@@shoehealer8853 Quite right, though I'm still hopeful that I can somehow wear them in...! It's a shame that the way the world is going is toward online shopping when it's so clearly flawed. Much better to speak to experienced, skilled people such as yourself, and get good, hands-on help. All the best and happy new year!
@shoehealer88532 күн бұрын
Yes, it’s a daily occurance, having to tweak a shoe to get a perfect fit, which we can do here. Also it’s very common that someone doesn’t know their true size, we had someone telling us they were a 14 recently, they were a 12 on our brannock. Maybe yours might need a go on the stretcher if its only a bit out, happy new year

What else can you do? Buy the right size in the first place! - I know you were dying to say it! it was, obviously, a sale shoe and bought because of price - silk purse out of a sows ear comes to mind.

English here. love my multiple pairs of Trickers and Grensons. Got my Bourton brogues which I absolutely adore, also 2 pairs of Stow boots. And 2 or 3 pairs of Grensons. English/ Northamptonshire footwear... so, so fine. My Loake loafers for the summer also add to the classic look. 🙂👍

I'll get hold of some stretching spary if you say it works, always assumed it was a bit of a gimmick. I have two pairs of boots both same manufacturer one pair broke in no bother, like slipper after a couple of weeks, the other pair must be made from the cows backside, tough as hell.

Hi, a bit late to this video. If your foot is 27,5cm then trickers recommends you to buy a size 9 in the Bourtouns. But 8 1/2 is what fits you best? I’m about 273-275mm in foot and don’t know if to get the 9 or 8 1/2…
@shoehealer88533 күн бұрын
One of the other comments said that table was wrong for them, and this video was accurate. Have you watched the Trickers Stow video? That has sizing in it, but the Stow is 1/2 size larger, Antony tried 9 in those and he is 275mm, I was the cameraman on that video and about same 275mm, but have a narrower foot, that’s the size i would have took,but they are all too wide, I can’t have Trickers. To be honest I could also get my foot in an 8 Bourton,but not quite long enough where the toe curls down, I can also get my foot in a 71/2 but way too tight. Id be trying 81/2 first if you think you are a 9
@gustavedwinsson11263 күн бұрын
Huge thanks for the quick reply! It’s so hard with sizes in English boots, for example I’m a EU size 43 in Red Wings and those you have to size down 1/2 - 1 size. I ordered the Bourtons in 9 1/2 and they were too big, so can’t really decide if I am to order the 8 1/2 or the 9. I want to be able to wear wool socks in them too…But seems like the 8 1/2 is the best bet!
@shoehealer88533 күн бұрын
What type of Redwings? and do you have any others? The Trickers should be roomy to allow for a country sock
@gustavedwinsson11262 күн бұрын
Iron rangers and Moc Toes. The IRs fit really good in EU 43, the Mocs just ok because the last they’re built on is snug over the mid foot.
@shoehealer88532 күн бұрын
Remember 1/2 size is only 3 or 4mm so how much too big was the 91/2? I am a 9 on brannock so if I followed Trickers size table that would make me a 71/2 or an 8, no way could I ever wear the 71/2, the 8 doesn’t feel bad but my big toe caught where the toe slopes down, 81/2 would have been the one but my foot is narrow and the facings close together on all of them. For reference and an addition to the sizing in the boots video, I recently got a pair of Cheaney Tamar which state true to size or 1/2 size drop for tighter fit, I ended up taking an 81/2 in those and I’ve even had to put an insole in to tighten them up a bit.

Do you ever use saddle soap to remove a lot of the excess product on the shoe ? Or is that used mainly for muddy footwear ?
@shoehealer88534 күн бұрын
No not really, i don’t think we’d have any, do you use it? It would do a job though, and isn’t it supposed to be slightly gentler? Takes longer to dry before the next stage. Would probably use it to scrub a pair of muddy redwing or something like that, but luckily they don’t get sent to us like that very often. Another alternative for more regular use would be the gentle cleanser, as that only takes off a couple of layers of wax so can use it more often.

I have purchased more than 10 pairs of Church's and worn them to work for more than 20 years. I have had them repaired at the factory. I have visited the factory, even dropping in to their factory shop when I visit from Australia when I now live. In 2021 Prada must have taken a value judgement and decided that the price sensitivity of their current and future customers was low enough to withstand doubling their prices. It wasn't. Their sales dropped 57% in 2022. Their turnover was down GBP50M in 2022/2023 combined. They lost GBP24M in 2023. Their turnover dropped from about GBP58M pre COVID to GBP23M last year, the opposite pattern to the rest of Prada which boomed. They shed nearly half of their staff last year, many from Northampton (which no doubt was unreconstructed / maybe not a good cultural fit for Prada, but was where the the know-how and brand history resides). Apparently, they are getting back to profitability but on a much lower revenue / cost base. If there was a royal warrant for f**king up a business, Prada should have received it for Church's. They did almost as good a job as private equity would have. I would no longer buy new pairs, the pricing is absurd vs value knowing (as I do) that the (very very rich) owners are so undeniably greedy. Let them delight in their avarice.

We can not believe how badly this was handled. What a great indepth response. Thank you for your interest and comments. I'd love to know your thoughts on "Made in England" shoes. Uppers made abroad and just the soles and heels added in Northampton! It's totally unfair to manufacturers who now have to brand "Purely made in England". Antony.
